Can't get Windows 10 to see GeForce 210 upgrade on old PCs

So I'm bumping so older PC to win 10. With the first PC, I install the GeForce 210 first, then install Win 10, this is on a Asus motherboard, and the Win 10 CAN see the video card

With the 2nd system, it's a Gigabyte Ultra Durable series, I install win 10 first, then install the GeForce 210 video card, win 10 can't see the card. I even install the Nvidia driver. Also, Win 10 cannot see the embedded Intel video port. IT's the same error as the GeForce video card. It actually said the intel embedded video port is not compatible w/ win 10. And that Ultra Durable motherboard is only 4 to 5 yr. old. I have seen win 10 able to see much older motherboard and able to recognize all the components as win 10 compatible.

A windows bug? anyone seen this before?

I am using 1809 build

It looks like the latest driver NV released for that card was in 2016, and it also seems on Google you're not the only one with this issue. Seems the 210's got support dropped after 1809, but maybe that's just temporary. The 210 is by today standard a really old card, I think it was originally released back in 2010... so at some point support IS going to be dropped. If you're bumping an old PC, and the 210 was PCI-e, see if you can find an AMD 5450 card, or a Geforce 710... would probably cost you less than $20, and you'll have support for years forward, not to mentioned DX 11 support.

Support for chipsets prior to Kepler, including GeForce Tesla and the GT210, was dropped middle of last year. Since an official driver is no longer being supplied by NVIDIA, Microsoft probably also dropped support for it.

It’s hard to believe they are still selling this card after 10 years... and yet it’s not even supported.

but how on earth does this same card able to see by Win 10 on the first machine then? the first machine is running AMD CPU

It's more like they've *not* been selling the card for the last decade. They're sitting new on Newegg because after a decade no one's bought them and it's cheaper to keep a listing up with the cards sitting in the back of a warehouse than to pay to have a dumpster filled with unsellable inventory.

1. Have you checked for bent socket pins?
2. Change PCI-e slots and see if it's still the same.
3. Try changing the PCI-e speed in bios.

Hope this helps.

How does it appear on device manager?

w/ that white symbol, saying windows 10 is using ?? simple driver instead. I didn't write down the exact mesg.

Now, today, I install a MSI Cyclone R6850, in which it also does not have win 10 driver, I install the card first under win 7. Then I install win 10, and win 10 can see the video card and ID it as the right driver.

Now on that same motherboard, it has the very same embedded Intel Graphics port, and once again, it did see that Intel graphics w/ the win 10 driver.

So it seems to be a bug. The only difference I did on the system that is not seeing them as video card, is that I install the card after I install win 10.

Install motherboard chipset driver on the Gigabyte board first - if there is one available for it for Windows 10.

There is usually a very large disconnect between the point where Nvidia/AMD stops releasing new monthly drivers for a particular card, and the point where it will no longer work with windows. In most cases, you just install the latest available driver and you will still be fine. I have a computer running a Geforce 470, latest driver March 2018, still works fine. On the AMD side of things, I have one Windows 10 computer that is still running a pair of Radeon 4850 cards. Latest driver for those is from 2013 but it still works, and even crossfire still works in the older games that sometimes get played on there. Even something ancient like a Radeon 9700 Pro will still work on Windows 10 with the built-in drivers. There should be no driver-related reason why a GT210 wouldn't work, especially if we are just talking about desktop functionality (not playing games, etc).

that just it. I mean, there is no way it works on 1 system, and not on another PC

Just like tha tMSI cyclone, it's many yr. old, AMD said there is no win 10 driver. and yet after the install, win 10 sees it just fine WITHOUT me installing any driver. I think it's a bug. If I install the card first, at win 7, and then install win 10, it works.

Maybe it's some kind of BIOS/UEFI compatibility issue, or running afoul of some issue with TPM if that's enabled. The GT 210 is very old - IIRC it's basically a respin of the 8400GS part. Later VLIW Radeons generally cooperated well with TPM, so that's the first thought that comes to my mind.

1) which is older GT 210 or that MSI Radeon R6850, i think MSI is even older

2) what's TPM?

alright, but at the very first PC that I setup, an AMD CPU on Asus motherboard, quite a no. of yr. old, I also successfully installed the GeForce 210, and win 10 sees it right away. If GeForce 210 is not recogize by win 10, then it shouldn't recognize that video card on the very first PC that I setup last week. It's the exact same card

Also, I want to emphasize it's not just that Geforce 210 card, Win 10 also can't see the embedded Intel HD graphics card on the motherboard, and that's on a Gigabyte motherboard about 4 to 5 yr. old

By contrast, when win 10 first come out, I have seen many Intel Core 2 Duo system running win 10, and those embedded intel video cards are much older.

Can you tell us the exact motherboard model you’re having trouble with?

FYI: Windows 10 from 2015 is not the same Windows 10 from 2019. Saying something worked when Windows 10 was first released means absolutely nothing.

the very same DVD was installed by me, on all 3 system, in the past week. Only that 2nd PC doesn't work. The above is the motherboard that not recognize by Win 10 build 1809.

The exact motherboard works when I install that MSI video card (called it the 3rd PC). And I do not need to find or install any video driver, win 10 automatically find the driver after win 10 is installed

I did install the AMD win 7 driver on the win 7 OS just before I upgrade to win 10. All these procedures were done last week

1809 craps all over a GT660 that I have as well, gets stuck in a driver loop and reverts back to ... 1803 of whatever the previous edition is. And a clean install of 1809 (or newer) just fails telling me the machine isn’t compatible with Win10

660 is a bit more recent than the two cards you are trying, so that wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a 1809 issue and your just stuck there without a newer card.

so what if you didn't do a clean install? have to try keep win 7 and just do an upgrade?

yeah and ive installed on even older hardware, no issue. i think its a PEBKAC error...
i just did an install on an old hp laptop, c2d with an ATI HD3000 series from '08-09.

in order to save time, I have decided to move to GT 710, assuming it has win 10 driver, as the price difference vs. 210 is very little
