The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch Remake)

Here is the E3 video where the release date was revealed if you missed Direct. New gameplay is shown off.

new gameplay...

am i missing something? I'm sure i'll buy it day one since i've never played, but it's essentially just a 3d remake, the mechanics should be same like a link between worlds.

Link's Awakening is a remake of the Gameboy Classic. A Link Between Worlds was a completely new game.

Right but despite moving to 3d, the game mechanics and overall feel was identical. That was my point.

New in the context of this version. As in: it hasn't been shown before.

I thought A Link Between Worlds was a remake of A Link to the Past from SNES? I never played LTTP, but I bought a 3DS XL Zelda Edition just for LBW and loved that. When I saw this Switch remake was announced, I thought it was another remake of LBW, so I kind of dismissed it, hah. I never played the previous Game Boy Zelda games except for Oracle of Seasons I think it was on GBA. Since I never played Links Awakening though, now I'm just as excited for this as I am for the BotW sequel.

ALBW and ALttP are very different games. They share similarities as far as the world map and having a light/dark world but those similarities mostly end there. Dungeons, characters, items, bosses and more are pretty different. If you like ALBW you should really try ALttP.

I think they only share similarities in the world map because of that goofy timeline. ALBW takes place hundreds (?) of years after ALttP.

I love both games but ALttP is still better IMO. Could be because it’s the one I grew up with. ALBW felt like easy mode Zelda where ALttP doesn’t hold your hand as much.

To be honest, i thought this would be 39.99 title.

60 bucks is steep for a GBA game.

You are about to get your chance
Better to buy a 3DS for all the portable stuff from Nintendo. You can play GBA/DS/3DS all on a 3DS without having to emulate, you just need a flashcart to play the DS games, and to boot it up to run CFW which allows you to run GBA games without emulation.

Most of the time you won't need a cart with TWiLightMenu++ & nds-bootstrap

You need a flashcart for 100% DS game compatibility. You also need the cart for the easiest method of bootstrapping your 3DS initially. The latest R4 has a little toggle switch that switches it between boostrap mode to hack your 3DS, or just normal DS flash cart mode.

So far, zero issues after I quit using a flashcart & went completely with all DS ROMs stored on the 3DS sdcard. Modding a 3DS now has another method that I used recently since I didn't have my bootstrapped flashcart with me. Whatever path someone chooses for it, they can at least play any of the classic Zelda games with ease. :D

Don't see a GBA cart slot on my Switch, so I don't see how. If they are going to be doing the eShop bullshit where you have to buy all your games again, then Nintendo can shove that idea right back up their ass.
You can play almost any game up to N64 on your switch very easily..
I don't see a slot for N64 carts, either.

CFW + emulators

It's release day. Anyone picking it up? I think I haven't used my Switch in a year, but I think this is enough to dust it off.

There have been some compelling games on the Switch lately, but I just don't find myself paying full price for games anymore, given the backlog I have. So they'll have to wait.

Links Awakening is one of my favorite games of all time, but my backlog is still too large to feel any rush to go out and re-buy it.

Finished it last weekend (almost 100%, chamber dungeons are a chore so screw the hearts) and lent it to my nephew last night. He’s 14 so I’m sure he knows nothing about the game and will enjoy it.

Started it today. Never played the old one so a new experience for me. Not a bad play so far. Just started the swamp place.

Just started playing this last night and meh. Just another game getting a pass cause it is Zelda. It isn't a bad game but nothing special like some people making it out to be and I prefer the top down Zelda games over the 3D ones.
