Would this be a good replacement for my current possibly faulty PSU?

My desktop went belly up earlier this year and in a thread I created here, a few folks suggested starting w/ a replacement PSU.

I was thinking of buying the EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 80+ GOLD, 1300W Fully Modular NVIDIA SLI and Crossfire Ready 10 Year Warranty Power Supply 120-G2-1300-XR

What kinds of things should I be looking for with it, to make sure it's compatible? Thanks.

It was a cascade of issues. I don't have the knowledge to suspect it's the PSU. Or anything else for that matter. Several folks here suggested that in the thread I posted: https://hardforum.com/threads/missing-operating-system.1983063/

- system couldn't find my OS. This same thing happened again after an OS reinstall.
- GPU fan started spinning super fast
- GPU then wasn't detected
- lockups

If I can get by with less, sure. Gack, just noticed that my sig is waaay out of date. I am running two NVIDIA 680GTX 4GB cards and have a different GPU and CPU in my current defunct desktop that I am trying to revive.

Man your way off on diagnosing pc hardware! i NOTHING in that thread that guaranty its a bad power supply. You could have several things going bad (and none of them being the power supply) I wont deny it COULD be related to the supply...heck anything with that much age and usage eventually fails at some point

I’d guess motherboard. Power Supply’s so rarely outright die and when they do it typically isn’t in a subtle variety of varying issues.

Your 1,200 watt PSU is mostly just idling. Hardforum longevity tests have confirmed most any powersuppply still passes ATX standards easily after 10 years. There might be more ripple, there might be a little less headroom, but most they tested still passed just fine.

Someone suggested replacing the cmos battery. That’s a good cheap troubleshooting step. Try turning down or off your overclock if you have one, reset the CMOS, replace the battery. - see what happens.

Motherboard was my thoughts as well......My last setup begin loosing sata slots over time after about 10 years. (I knew it was time to start over) cause i been thru same situation before.

For what its worth you can purchase a solid EVGA 850w supply local at Best buys for 129 bucks lol you dont need bigger supplys these days for 99% of people
