That’s true. But if it’s even close that’s an easy buy for me. My biggest issues with my XS is faceid. It can be really bad and super slow sometimes or just not work at all. If they can make it faster and give me battery life boost and major camera upgrades I’m game.
 
What a meh keynote.

Biggest draws though are the battery life improvements and the extra camera for the pro. I’m due for an upgrade so a 256GB phone is likely in my future.
 
News I’m actually kind of excited for: free Apple streaming service for a year. Wish they would let me trade it for Apple Music though.

  • Better Screen - More pixels, high nits, HDR10
  • Better Sound - Early hands on say it sounds really good. I've been impressed with the sound on my XS Max and they say this should be better. I listen to music in the shower so not having a bluetooth speaker needed is nice. Better than the already nice XS Max speaker is icing on the cake.
  • Better Battery - My XS Max lasts all day and then some. When I travel I like having extra battery life so that 4-5 hours more will be nice, even if it translates to an hour or two of usage.
  • Better Camera - The X to XS Max wasn't that huge of a leap. This generation feels like a much bigger leap.
  • Fast charging - I shouldn't be excited about this. OnePlus is already on like the 3rd generation of fast charging. Android has had this for years and years and years.

The not good.
  • I still wish it had reverse wireless charging since I have the wireless charging airpods and it would be nice just to plop them on my phone at night.
  • I wish it had no notch. Not a deal breaker since I dont know how I feel about pop up cameras. I don't like mechanical moving parts on my phone.
  • Biggest letdown and I knew it wasn't coming yet is the under the screen fingerprint sensor. I don't mind face id, but if I had the choice, i'd go with finger print any day.
  • Not USB C on both ends.

Questions for reviews.
  • Is the transfer speed of files faster? Does it leverage that USB C connection or is it bottlenecked by the lightning port.
  • Is the cellular modem better than the intel XS?
  • How well does Wifi 6 work? Is it worth an upgrade to my wireless AP's at home.
  • With IOS 13, can I drag and drop movies directly from my computer to my phones files. They mentioned something very similar in the iPad reveal where he watches video taken from a drone from a usb stick. If I could finally just drop movies on the phone and watch them (mkv, avi, etc) that would be amazing.

Just an FYI, iPhones have had fast charging since the iPhone 8/X from 2 years ago. You just had to buy the 18W charger and USB-C to lightning cable that are now included with iPhone 11 Pros this year (finally).

To finally see that rear camera setup being real now.

I mean lets cut to the chase, it's unbelievably ugly and bad design and looks hideous on those phones, but the rest of the phone is very well engineered and beautiful. but I can't believe Apple of all companies woukd allow that to be the final product, those cameras are so obnoxious to look at

I’m not a fan of the growing lens count either. I get why they are doing it, but I agree it’s ugly. I’m also REALLY tired of the camera hump. It’s better this time around because they made the phone a little thicker, but FFS. Just make the phone thick enough to be flush with the camera. This also means a bigger battery.

Anyways, I still don’t see enough to upgrade from the X. I always figured the X would last quite long though. The only thing I really want is the improved battery life, but I’ll just wait another year.

Really not a fan of them dropping 3D Touch either. I actually like it. Cost saving BS.

Yea, I really liked 3D Touch, I don’t think it’s for cost savings though, I think it was for power savings.

Really like the new release though, even though it’s incremental the non-pro looks like a great buy.
 
Personally I don't think having an oled over a very good LCD is worth that $200 difference + $100 for additional camera... I watch my movies on TV and I dunno what the big deal with that extra sensor (need reviews). With the extra sensor it can stitch together 9 photos... Okay, but what does that mean for someone like me who only takes food photos and videos of my dog and girlfriend?

I think an iPhone 11 for me with the A13 SoC is just fine. Still waiting on the RAM specs.

I will most likely jump onto an iPhone 11 as soon as it opens up.

EDIT: Either will be fine. I imagine there won't be a difference functionally between 4GB and 6GB in iOS for at least a year or two. As an aside, it's crazy that Samsung has phones with 12GB of RAM. Most people's desktops (I'm talking about the majority, not enthusiasts) are still running 8GB and it's just starting to get to that place where 16GB is normal (and enthusiasts are starting to transition to 32GB). 12GB... in a phone. There is no app on a phone that can use that much RAM, short of possibly editing big (relatively) 4k timelines in an NLE, but I imagine that usage case is an outside most people. Android is terribly inefficient to need that much RAM just for app switching and background tasks.

I know the lead isn't quite as unambiguous as that, but it is getting to the point where you almost have to assume the iPhone will always be faster than its Android rivals. Qualcomm may have to fundamentally rethink its architecture if it's going to claim any kind of absolute performance advantage.

Meh, I bought a 2015 MacBook Pro 13 for the same price when that was brand new.

I have an iPhone 7 128gb, it won't even come close to the 50% selling my last iPhone used to cover for the next one.

64GB is enough, IMO. It's what I have on my iPhone X and i've never had storage issues. Since more stuff is streaming these days i've had more and more space free up since I don't store much music on my phone anymore, I just stream it all. Photo's automatically sync full resolution to iCloud as well, and iOS itself only stores a low-res on the phone itself if you want.

When I go on long trips i'll download like an entire 10 hour playlist from Apple Music and a few movies from Prime/Netflix, and even then I still have enough storage.

Basically, as more stuff moves to the cloud/streaming the extra space isn't as useful.

The pricing hasn't changed from year to year. And it's in line with its Samsung, amongst other, rivals. Additionally the "regular" has all the speed and is $700 US. If your interest is only in the top, expect to pay top pricing. For everyone else, the 11 non-pro is a steal even in comparison to Apple's rivals.

There is no reason to get the Pro if you are the type of person who will upgrade every year anyways.

However, just like the X at release, if you get a phone and are willing to hang onto it for 3-4 years it's worth it as you get more RAM and honestly the OLED is really nice.
 
I almost always talk myself out of the cheap option and go for the most expensive one.

2gb of ram extra on the Pro will ensure that the phone gets more software updates in the future though.

The extra camera for the wide angle may be cool but it’s not a feature I’d purposely chose to spend extra on.

By the time 6GB matters, the rest of the phone will be obsolete. The iPhone 6, 7, and 8 (which will still be sold alongside the new 11) all have 2GB of RAM. Every iPad up to this point has 4GB or less. And of course the latest gen 11 also has 4GB. The A13 will be called into question long before that extra 2GB matters.

We all have priorities. Cameras are definitely something Apple very intentionally fights the competition on. However, the thing to note isn't just that it adds another focal length option, but also what the software is capable of doing with it. With 4k 60 across all of them, the ability to zoom through the ranges, the fact that they're all perfectly color matched, that they allow for the best boké reproduction, that they allow you to see what is outside of the frame, and so on and so forth, it does far more than just offer another option.
 
The supposed battery life turns my head even though I've been an Android-only user. I'm eager to see how it bears out in real life.
 
Minus the HUGE emphasis on marketing words like PRO, you are paying for processing power and the additional battery life. As industry analysts said best, if your looking for the next big thing from iOS, holding pattern till the 2020 MY for a huge leap forward.

The new finish and colors are nice, but overall, the lower end of the pricing is where its at. iPhone 8 is $449, and the 11 is 699, cheaper then the S10e.

I think Apple realizes, regardless of merit, if you want the market starting offering a cheaper version.

Of course the storage size/Price still baffles me.

64GB wouldn't be enough for me. I keep my entire music collection with me (flac) and also don't sync pics to cloud. I currently have 256GB of storage and that's enough for now. Technically I could ditch the 128GB NM card but I like to keep picks and music away from phone storage.

But that's all irrelevant really, there no reason to introduce 64GB version of top of the line product.

One thing that I think we can all agree with, we are just happy that Apple didn't introduce a specially designed all metal or glass iPhone Stand/Mount priced at a low $999.

So with the pro you aren't paying for better processing at all. You're paying for a better camera and display. That's about it. This is why this generation of iPhone is fairly lackluster to me, and i'm holding out for the 2020 models hoping there is enough upgrade over the X/XS.

Waiting for those that don't want these features is always prudent. I will say though that 2020 is likely going to be just as iterative as this year. Getting 5G modems, reverse charging, and possibly under-screen TouchID won't matter all that much either (although under-screen TouchID has been stated that it's slated for 2021 by Ming Chi-Kuo). With a new A14 processor and likely 6GB of RAM standard across. Standard improvements to software and possibly new camera sensors at the same resolution. Maybe 4k 120fps. And that will be it. Feel free to tag this post and see how accurate I am one year out.

We'd have to have some massive leaps forward in screen tech. I think every phone producer is trying to crack this. Apple does have patents, however I think it's really unlikely it will be in a year or even two.
In other words, I wouldn't hold my breath. I feel like the best way to never be disappointed is to read the leaks, and don't hope for anything that isn't in them. Then if something else new is presented you can be pleasantly surprised.
As an example, this is the third year of roughly the same design. I might like a redesign next year, but I haven't seen anything regarding it. I find it unlikely that it will happen and hoping won't make it come any quicker.
 
I'll actually be paying less per month to jump onto an iPhone 11 from my iPhone XR. So I'm now wondering if it's better to buy the phone instead.

Used mint iPhone XR is recently sold today at $450-470 on Swappa; Swappa market fees according to their chart would subtract $41.80 from that, resulting in $408-428 net. While this is still more than the $350 trade in value that T-Mobile is offering, is $58 really worth the hassle and time?

I've paid $31 on 11 of 18 months to jump on demand before they'll make me purchase the phone for ??? (dunno why my device plan isn't coming up). Assuming 12 months, that's $372 I'll be spending on the XR. Slightly worse than the trade in value, but not enough to make a difference.

Anyways long story short, it's better to buy the phone and try to sell it on Swappa. But I don't think it's worth the hassle and time.
 
Not worth the hassle IMO. Unless you are talking $100+ difference selling on your own it's not worth the pain.

At least that's how I feel when I sell my old phones on ebay.

Also, I really don't see much difference moving from a XR to a 11 besides the camera. Seems like a waste to me unless you really need the better camera/CPU. You'd be better getting a refurbished XS IMO so you actually get that better display.
 
Honestly might wait until the Pixel 4, the camera upgrades are nice but I don't take a lot of photos/videos so it's really not that great for me.
 
So I was planning on keeping my iPhone X for about another year but just got word that T-Mobile will be rolling out Band 71 in my area in the next few months. My reception right now is average at best so I'm thinking I may upgrade to an iPhone 11 once the new band is activated. Going to have to take a really close look at the iPhone 11 display; more concerned about the PPI than the fact its an LCD since I use an iPhone 8 Plus daily for work and its fine.
 
Question about the Apple trade in since I have trouble finding an answer.

For example is the $300 credit applied immediately to a loan or split over 24 monthly payments?

T-Mobile will give you credits. But lump sum credits to be used toward your bill payment.
 
I paid $600 cash for my brand new iPhone XS Max in March of this year.

Apple offers me 600 trade in value for it towards the iPhone 11 max pro.

So in the end a iPhone 11 max pro for 499. Now had I paid full price for the xs max, this wouldn’t be a good deal. But essentially in my case I’m paying 500 for a phone that I know will retain its value.

I have never had an issue reselling a iPhone if it was well taken care of.
