will there be another Turing refresh?

it's not about upgrading solely for Cyberpunk...that's one of the biggest game releases in years but overall it's about upgrading to an RTX card...seems like RTX games are coming out at a record pace and it's better to be ready for it with a 2nd gen RTX card

It (RTX) is ok, I am sure it will improve as time goes on. I would wait for next gen if you haven’t got one yet though.

How can you be better ready for CP2077 with a 2nd generation RTX card, if CP2077 ships before 2nd generation RTX cards, which seems VERY likely.

It it's all about CP2077, wait for CP2077 and buy the card that is available then, is a simple and obvious strategy.

easy...be better ready for CP2077 by waiting until 2nd Gen RTX cards are released and then buying the game...pretty simple...there's no law that says I have to buy the game on Day 1...and again CP2077 gets all the hype but there are other big RTX games coming out that I'm very interested in as well- Dying Light 2 etc

So you are doing exactly what I said. Waiting for the game to release first...

Though if it isn't all about CP2077 and just getting into it for all the RTX games, Control is looking quite good and bonus is that it is free right now with some RTX cards...

I never like lowering graphical settings...I'm all about max visual fidelity (currently at 1440p G-Sync)...so getting a 2080ti or 2070 Super now and finding out it struggles to maintain an acceptable frame rate with next gen RTX titles doesn't sound like the right move...doesn't a 2080ti struggle to maintain high frame rates at 1440p with Control (max RTX features enabled)?

So far I haven't noticed issues in control at 3440/1440 with everything maxed but MSAA at 2x at 60hz. There is an occasional lug in light intensive settings, could always turn off MSAA or use DLSS.

The reality is, there is always a next card, and always a next game that will tank that card. I would wait, but for now 2080ti is the top card.

Control has quite good DLSS that would get you there.
 
I mean they usually do new releases March - May so ......

Though releases have been getting longer apart so it could easily be another fall release.

Basically it's total guesswork at this time. It' will be here when it is ready.

It really doesn't make sense to base your plans on some future product with unknown specs, with unknown pricing, releasing at an unknown time.

You buy when you NEED to buy and see what is on the market then.

It still shows a similar increase in gaps over time. Obviously the refreshes are kind of irrelevant. It's when the first new Chips start showing up that matters for the timelines.

Still shows exactly what I wrote a few post back, release cycles keep getting longer. 16 month, then 20 months, then 28 months.

But actual architecture development at NVidia, and process development externalities are what drives these cycles. I expect with NVidia holding onto to 14nm class chips for the last release, they will want a 7nm release in 2020, so this won't be a 28 month+ cycle. Though it could easily arrive at the end of the year rather than the beginning. That could give AMD a bit more window to drop a winning part before Ampere.
 
Yeah the length between Pascal and Turing really seems like an anomaly. 18-21 months between Maxwell and Pascal and then that big jump to 28-30 months until Turing. I guess they were busy with the new Tensor cores and the single-part Volta TITAN V.

Moores law slowing is also going to slow update cycles as well. Though in this case, there should be decently mature 7nm for them anytime they are ready.
 
Ampere is going to be steller. Gonna wait. Based on Samsungs fabrication. Coming out next year as well as Intel getting into it.
