OK so I know 7 is about to be dumped and that z370 is not supported by M$ under 7. But I ran 7th gen hardware on 7 and I know benchers have ran 7 on z370.
So This has got me wondering how well would 7 run on a z370 system? I know there is chipset drivers for 7, but not for the IGP. I know M$/7 will bitch about using a 8/9th gen CPU.
If one put the the ASMedia ASM3142 drivers on a USB installer or used a PS/2 mouse keyboard and DVD to install 7 how would it run? I'm gusseting it would be like a 7th gen setup. But I haven't messed around with it yet.

Can I ask why you want to run 7 over 10 on brand new hardware?
Alot of reasons why one would. Bench marking, having fun making it work. A dual boot for older games that can not be played on 10, older apps that can not be ran on 10 nor a VM.10 is less user friendly, don't want to spend the money on 10, no driver for windows 10 for "insert old part here" older monitor with a lower resolution or DPI, less data usage, offline only system and so on.

Depends on the motherboard and manufacturer. A good indicator is going to just going to your motherboard manufacturer and look under the driver download page. If they don't have Windows 7 drivers, its not even worth trying.

Why is that? You don't have to get the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer, you can get them from the chip set manufacturer, they tend to be more upto date anyway.

I mean give it a try. I've tried on z370 over a year ago and the driver support was hot garbage. There are still drivers that you will need to get from the motherboard manufacturer. Besides that, Windows 7 is end of life and end of support in 4 months. Its time to let go and accept that 10 is inevitable. You could always try Linux too, but running Windows 7 at this point just isn't a good idea.

Also, whos says that there is chipset drivers for 7? Microsoft officially ended support for 7 on z370. Motherboard manufacturers who still decided to support 7 after that did it with their own driver modifications to get them to work with 7. Intel followed compliance with Microsoft so finding chipset drivers from them isn't going to happen.

It sounds like you are looking for people to support your choice and not asking a question. If that’s the case you should probably just do what you are going to do anyways. I doubt many people here will recommend using windows 7 at this point and arguing about it is pointless since you made up your mind.

I love how dumb people make statements like this. I did not make up my mind on anything nor do I need anyone to support my ideas.
I'm simply asking if anyone has gotten 7 to work on a z370 system and how it worked.

“Dumb people” lol. I’m not the one that’s trying to install an out of support OS on a system that isn’t even supported. Calling names is a great way to help your argument too. (y)

It sounds like you are using a thread asking for something technical, as a personal soapbox for your OS of choice
if that is the case you should probably start you own thread to shared you opinions when they are unrelated/unuseful for what OP is trying to do
I doubt many people her will recommend yo spread you unrelated opinion in random threads jsut because you don;t agree with what OS OP is trying to use.

@OP
Let us know how it fairs especially any tricks/tips you encounter in the project. Its always nice to see people try something different and learn something new.

Will do. Not sure If I'm going to bother with it. I was more so asking because I'm kinda wanted to know how it would work.
I am putting together a z370 system, but I'll likely put linux on it.
However I do have a M.2. drive with a fresh untouched install of 7 I may plop into the system to see if it works. My days of playing around with software and making stuff work is kinda behind me. Once I'm done building my current sleeper pc I'll likely get out of modding and messing with stuff this way.

You missed all the posts that he deleted, calling names and then claiming that I edited his quotes in my posts. I just was saying that it’s not officially supported and it’s down to the motherboard manufacturer. I’ve tried with a 6500 system, a 7700k system, and the 9900k system in my signature with the same answer that I gave him. It comes down to the manufacturer. Some have drivers they made for them, others don’t. I don’t think that simply saying that it’s not a good idea to use windows 7 because it’s end of life is a soapbox issue.

... looks like I missed it.

Well OP, I would just spin up an old PC for old stuff on old hardware and leave it offline. I have an old XP box I pull out to play really old games on from time to time. Never touches the net cause that would be stupid.

My apologies if i have acted on only a half wind ( is that an expression in the us?)
Name calling is never a good way to debate on a forum IMHO

I agree on the technical merits it all about chip manufacturers drivers ( Dont rely on the card producers)

I've actually have very good luck with this and "older" hardware. By older I mean just not bleeding edge. I generally haven't had any issues with anything except for when I upgraded my laptop's wireless card and intel just hadn't gotten around to putting the driver in the kernel that my distro defaulted to. For systems where drivers start falling off or stop seeing updates, Linux still makes improvements to stability. I actually am a big advocate for Linux but still have to use Windows 10 at work since all of our main software requires Windows. I don't want to sound like I am against Windows 7, I think to date it was my favorite OS. I'd go back to it in a heartbeat if Microsoft decided to change their mind and offer support. Give it a try and see if it works. I almost got my 7700k running on my Maximums IX but got tired of the nag windows and inconveniences that Microsoft put in place for 7 users.
