Gears of War 5

Its still PC this makes zero sense. Many games are exclusive to a single store like all of valves games.

I bought valve games at a nr of different stores, they all use the valve launcher though, then again it's been so long since valve made a game that it might be different these days.

So you can buy MS gift cards at many places too then use them in the store. You can also redeem codes which is the same way you buy things from other stores for steam.
Even if that wasnt true and the only way you could get GOW was through the store with a credit card then so what, the matter of fact is the platform is still PC. And even if the game is limited to windows 10 only there thats just how PC gaming works sometimes games require the latest OS, GPU, or other requirements. Things are labeled by what platform they are on. If it runs on PC then its a PC game doesn't matter what store you have. The fact of the matter is PC is still more open and that includes the MS store because the PC is like a mall, you can have many stores on one PC. This is what differentiates it from other platforms like iOS, Xbox, PS where they lock you into a single store.

You're confusing launcher with store. And the main problem with ms store was UWP, which I don't know if they are still pushing or not. You're replying to post that is over a year old.

The pre-order pages keep saying you can play 4 days early.
Anyone playing today or do they mean this Friday vs. the usual Tuesday release?

I never played Gears 4 and was thinking about giving it a go (through Game Pass PC) before Gears 5 hits but it seems to get very average reviews...doesn't seem worth it even though the campaign does seem pretty short

The game comes out the 10th. Early access starts on the 6th.

I replayed the game last week. The campaign is somewhere around 6-7 hours long on "normal." You can probably tack on 30-45 minutes if you want all of the collectibles. Since your partners can revive you in most instances, you won't actually full-on die much. You could download it today and be done with it by Friday if you have time to play it. It's okay IMO. Most of the game is so-so (and empty), but there are some great shootouts along the way, too. The first chapter is enough to make almost anyone bored, but things pick up once you finally get the fabricator.

Took me closer to 10-12 hours. I don't do collectible hunting.

I did the 2 month Xbox Ultimate Pass thing so I'll give it a playthrough on PC. Not much else interests me on the PC side so I'll probably cancel it afterwards. Already set my subscription to not renew.

This is good news, although it's not really an Xbox exclusive if it's also on PC. Looking forward to putting in some hours this weekend.

I think Xbox exclusive pretty much means console exclusive, meaning it's never going to come to PS...still doesn't match the best PS games but at least they now have a showcase title

Reviews look strong. I ended up doing the Gamepass thing like everyone else. Seems too good to be true, but I'll worry about that in 2 months when I have to cancel it :p

The PC version uses Atmos, which is cool. The directional audio from 4 might be the best I've ever heard in a game. Anyone know if the PC version can use HDR? I'm not seeing a toggle anywhere, even with desktop HDR enabled. I'm waiting on HD textures to download right now, so I'm hoping that's related.

EDIT: Nevermind, the HDR showed up as part of the HD textures download.

Anyone playing this today? I'm stuck working for another few hours :(

Tried to play it on PC last night - game kept crashing to desktop as soon at it loaded. I already have the latest Nvidia drivers and WIndows 10 update, so no idea what the problem is.

Anyone else having trouble signing in to play? I keep getting a 0x87DD0004 error. Using game pass on PC.

I can't play MS Solitaire because of the Xbox login error.

WTF do I need Xbox login for MS solitaire on WIn10. Stupid as hell.

I wanted to check out the info about the game, but I guess something broke.

Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue causing some members to have problems signing in to Xbox Live. Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience.

I started playing a bit last night and I really like it. Enemies aren't as spongy as before and the guns feel stronger. The shotgun no longer sucks for PvE. A close headshot kills instantly...finally! The Hammerburst has tons of range and lots of pop. They have increased muzzle rise and a little more recoil to compensate. Enemies can now really hurt you badly while you're chainsawing one of their buddies as well.
Graphics are terrific and the sound seems great, too. I haven't encountered anything as crazy as the bombing raids in 4 (which sounded straight-up real), but normal positional sound is accurate. HDR lighting is a nice touch.
I don't really have any complaints yet. I guess it did take me a minute to figure out how to actually start the game, though. The prompts don't seem accurate or there is a delay for some reason?

I thought the 1st part of Gears of War 4 at 2:58 was good the rest didn't strike me as hard maybe getting too personal with the story and characters wasn't cold enough.

Not sure I'd say it's THAT good looking (I'm at 4K max details), but it's certainly a pretty game. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is probably my gold standard for graphics. On the other hand, Gears 5 is a vastly better game IMO.

While I'm still not super far, the larger levels are a very welcome change. 4's environments feel absolutely tiny and claustrophobic by comparison. It reminds me of playing Unreal after Quake. You're going from a bunch of hallways to huge open areas and large buildings.

See ya on that hour that blew by!

Yes, so far this game is impressing the hell out of me. Very well optimized, fun to play (most importantly) , KBM or controller works great, tons of bells and whistles, tons of menu options including an FOV slider, etc.

If you like third person action games I really think you have to give this a long look.

Had to set my X-Fi to 24 Bit, 96000 Hz (Studio quality) to keep the game from crashing to desktop.

I am also playing it on an OLED and agree that the HDR looks fantastic, especially at 4K and FPS pegged at 60FPS.

I wish more devs added HDR to their PC version of games - this and AC:Odyssey / AC:Origins look amazing in HDR.
