So, I've been itching for an upgrade and have $400 to $500. It looks like my options are a 5700 XT or 2070. I'm more inclined to go with a 5700 XT, but the non-reference cards are never in-stock. Would I be losing that much going with a 2070? From the reviews I've seen, it seems like they trade blows, but 5700 XT seems beat out the 2070 over all. It looks like the 2070 is also more expensive. What do you think I should do? Do you think it's worth waiting for 5700 XT's to come in-stock?

I'm running 3840x1620 in most games.

Don't settle on a reference 5700 series period, if you aren't willing to wait then get the 2070 super. At the same price I don't like the 2070.

I'd definitely try to find an AIB 5700 XT, they are coming in stock slowly. The better cooling will make a difference.

I have the reference XT, it is a very nice card but I do think you'll have to tweak game settings to run at 4K ultrawide.

On my system, I can get really good performance at 1080p and 1440p but at 4K it was a stretch.

I think with 21:9 that would help, and you can also try Radeon Image Sharpening and an 80% render scale to get better performance.

do you mean a regular 2070 or the 2070S?

If you don't care about rtx and somewhat slower performance in most games, go with the 5700XT.

preferably non-reference.

What games do you play

I've been waiting to buy newer titles, but the games I'm looking at are Battlefield 5, Wolfenstien 2, Doom Eternal, Control, and Mirror's Edge Catalyst are the one's I can think of.

This here^

What games are you enjoying..? Is that a dual monitor set-up?

It's just a custom resolution on a 49" 4K Screen. I downgraded from 3 x 30"rs @ 7680x1600. Much easier to run, and don't miss too much of the periphery.

I haven't really been able to find 2070 supers in my budget, so I was looking at the 2070.

Thanks, I've been mulling around these options for a while. It also looks like I can get decent used 1080ti's in the this price range. As far as I know, that's about the same performance as a 2080/2070S.

With a little luck you could find a RTX2080 as they have come down in price with the release of the 2080S. BTW last time I checked the 2070S was in stock at nivdia for $499 and its quite a good card compared to 3rd party cards.

In the end, you really can't go wrong either way. A little bit more performance, here, a little more features there's, little less money.

Understood, i think NVIDIA has the SLIGHTLY smaller higher performance than compared to the Navi GPUs, check the benchmarks for those games. Are you against used graphics cards? I would look @ MSI, ASUS, EVGA cards as they are based on SN and the warranty can be transferred.
also the resolution + your processor is going to bottleneck any card you pair it with. Keep in mind you will need to upgrade your i5 if that signature is up to date.

Also keep RTX off, it will severely hinder your frames @ that resolution with that processor

I didn't even think to check there, thanks, I'll check it out after work.

Well, some of those games you like do support ray-tracing, though I don't know how well they would run with only a 2070 Super.

This looks like a decent deal, $530 with Control and the new Wolfenstein.

I saw this. The blower style cooler put me off.

Actually running a 2600k, but yeah, the upgrade after this is too go amd 3700x.

I've been checking the fs forum. A few deals fell through, but I'm still looking. It's fortunate then that those companies models are most appealing to me.
