No Man's Sky - a procedurally generated sand box space exploration game

How the F do you get salvaged freighter data? I've found crashed freighters but nothing there except Encryption Keys and log data.

Man, you guys were right. There are still a few complaints regarding the mechanics, but the quality of life improvements that they've added are such a welcome addition. This is definitely the best version yet and it's far less grindy. The initial small inventories are less frustrating to deal with, and Nanites are so much more plentiful this time around. Those are just two examples.

I landed on a Supercritical planet and life there is...interesting. It has flying centipede thingies and uhh...sheep cows?

Welp, just found out that you don't need to be near storage containers to pull junk out of them. you can just click on an empty inventory slot and the bottom option is transfer and then the right option is storage container.
SHIT. Cant say how much time I had wasted running from one to the other and searching the stupid things.
One of the reasons I had yet to build any this playthrough

Good tip, I had no idea.

I have not played this game in SOOO long. After whichever update made all my old stuff obsolete, I just kind of bailed. Since then it has done a Subnautica impression and now Space Odyssey 2000. I may have to redownload and give it another try.

Another tip that I didn't realize until a couple of days ago, the preinstalled tech can be moved to your "technology" tab, to free up storage space. I'm not sure how long that's been an option, but I haven't played for a year and that wasn't an option then.

oh, they just added that. you get bonuses for installing similar tech together in a block.... but what you got was what you got, and with bad block alignment you were pretty much stuck with it.
Now being able to move things around, there is say no reason to upgrade from that class A rifle scanner. and yeah, i'll eventually get an S using one of the guides.... :D

I just wish you could move modules to new multi-tools/ships. It's really hard to compare to new mutli-tools and ships because it doesn't seem to take into account your ship's base stats when it shows you a comparison, only the massively boosted stats from your upgrades, versus a stock ship.

Even just the ability to "uninstall" (convert back into a module item before you install them) would be fine. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a new multi-tool or ship, just to have it be gimped by a lack of upgrades until I can go find S-class stuff again.

I just installed this on PC for the first time (bought on sale ages ago, had already played it on PS4). The first thing I discover is that the new patch introduced a bug where you cannot rebind your keys. I'm left handed, so that is fairly important. Apparently there is an "experimental" patch I can download, but it sounds as if they are busy with the Console & VR versions, so the full fix for this is on the back burner.

I'm just going to go back to not caring about this game for a while longer.

They have a beta branch out that is supposed to fix the key bindings. that is supposed to go out today.
Probably in the future, on massive updates like this, may be good to wait a week before jumpiing in.
Although have to say, they have been very fast in squashing bugs and getting patches out quickly.

and a maybe useful tip for some, if you have lots of garbage mods you can sell them for nanites, don't deconstruct them.
just talk to any mod dealer and then click the sell option

One thing that I figured out (that maybe everyone already knew) is that you can re-size the Terrain Manipulator sphere using R and T on the keyboard. T also binds to Torch so that is a bit weird, but it does work. Makes mining out those nodes a whole lot faster, because the "default" size is somewhere in the middle of the possible sizes.

Another thing I find interesting is that after installing the +5 words learned mod, even after learning a TON of Vy'keen words from various sources over several hours, there are still conversations that are somewhat incomprehensible. I can't imagine trying to make progress only learning one word at a time, it seems absurd to me.

I'll have to load my old game up and see how many words I learned. Though, it's easier now than it used to be. I think there are more knowledge stones laying around, and, space stations have quite a few aliens to learn words from. I'm learning a lot quicker than my old game, I know that for sure.

I ran into an issue last night, where I came across an abandoned ship. I took it, and, couldn't get my other ship back, no matter what I did. Turns out, your other ship's inventory needs to be completely empty before you take an abandoned ship, otherwise, you're stuck with the new ship, and your old ship is gone.

Yeah, there's also a bug where transferring to a new ship can just eat all of your credits, apparently. I've been pretty apprehensive of doing much in the game so far because of all the potentially game-breaking bugs lurking.

As for the words...it is certainly faster than it was before, but even then I can't imagine playing it straight and being able to make any real progress. There are literally thousands of words and even if you are learning 5 each time you learn words, it still is going to take many hours to get to a point of fluency. Which is fine, I just can't imagine playing it without the mod now.

I think there are 3000 words. For freighters, I have already lost one, was given an A class later. So... I am staying the hell away from others. Just the dialogue seems broken in various ways. You turn the guy down and he still acts like you accepted... Building stuff in them also seems... strange. And a resource unit... became empty when I went back. Just seems better for now to avoid doing much with them.

Is there an infinite pulse/warp mod that's current? I can't seem to find one..

Not really needed.

Anti matter is pretty cheap to craft and all you need to do is mine some tritium/sodium for your pulse engines. And you're good for a while.

I will say though, there are fuel efficient tech modules you can install to significantly lower the fuel use for launching and the pulse engine.

Appreciated!

Is there a website/wiki I should be made aware of?? Thanks again

there is like a daylight charging mod for takeoffs. with that, I have not had to mess with any of those. not that it is hard, it is just annoying activity.

edit: not a mod, a ship module, sorry :D

There are several, though some of them are out of date because since each big patch has brought numerous changes some of the info has changed or no longer applies. I was looking at one of them the other day and it said that the information applied to the one of the prior updates, so they hadn't updated the page for the Beyond patch yet.

Here's a link to the release log:

I wrote this little thing about the change in drawing distance:

Basically they lowered it a lot, My guess is that's the way it's on consoles too and whatever. Kinda bummed, One of my favourite games.

Anybody having performance issues with a 5700 / XT? Borderless stutters quite badly, and switching to fullscreen or changing settings therein leads to a crash or freeze half the time, and when it does work performance is about the same.

I'm really interested in this game. When I started playing ARK back when it came out, a friend played a lot of this. He kept trying to get me to try it. It's 50% off now, so I'm thinking about it. However, most of the negative reviews basically say that it's a sandbox with not much to do, and so it gets boring quickly.

Anybody care to comment on that?

If you like sandbox games, grab it. It's really a difficult game to properly describe and has also changed (for the better) dramatically since the launch.

it depends on the activities you like to do. progression here is really about unlocking blueprints and gathering money and nanites so you can do/buy the things you need to do. That means unlocking inventory slots, getting better ships, better tool/weapon and so on. There are some different story line threads. Some for the basic blueprints involve base building. But you can easily skip that. Nexus is new in last update, it provides alternate means to get a lot of stuff. Exploring, and seeing what you find, has to be something you like.
There are more potential stars in this game than atoms in this universe, so pretty much any place you get to, you will be the first person to ever find it. That changes as you get to the "center" of the galaxy. Original mini game had that as a goal, so there are less stars the close to the center. Now... goals are more sandboxy.

anyway the game is a really good game and with another update it will probably become a really "great" game.

I've been trying to un-fuck my quest lines, which have been stuck for a long time now. Finally got a little bit back on track by putting the overseer/engineer/etc. on a planetary base way back near where I started - apparently they don't like being on the capital ship base.

I heard that the Artemis quest line is supposed to give you all of the portal glyphs, but I hit an "ending" point with that quest? It no longer shows up and there's nothing else I can do with it, but I never got the glpyhs, and unfortunately the Traveller glyph acquisition is bugged.

overall IMO the worst part of the game is the quest missions. they seem to get unfixably bugged for some reason.
There is now a feature to reset a quest if you are in a different system but I don't know if that actually does anything
I managed to unscramble the star seed quest by finding the location and activating the seeds and putting in the last one.
but it can be triggered again... which I don't know if that is normal. the other mission....

Coop trading still seems bugged to shit.

Transfered to my friend millions of dollars worth of items to sell. He obtained like a tenth of what I gave him.

So now, I'm doing one item at a time. He sells it and then rinse and repeat.

Some times those lost items came back though, not all of them.

I'm stuck here as well, i need a single salvaged freighter data and I can't figure out how the fuck you do it. I would LOVE some help.

Once you "finish" the artemis questline, you start getting these weird messages from people you obviously shouldn't be able to get messages from. When it says the end goal is the center of the universe, you start getting glyphs in every new(?) system to jump too along with some more dialogue.

I just got a B-Class 46+8 slot ship. It's ugly as sin, but damn it feels good to have that many slots.

Have you tried taking these found pieces at a crashsite to your freighter research terminal?

I believe there it converts one of them to a data piece.
