I like the Switch Pro controller as-is. IMO the only thing wrong with it is the lack of analog triggers. It's 2019 and that's a major oversight.

Unrelated, I picked up Marvel 3 and it's hit and miss. It's mindless fun, but the graphics are pretty awful. Even by Switch standards it's pretty weak.

I've been thinking of picking up Marvel 3 is it a loot driven game? It's hard to tell from the reviews I've been reading it seems like the only gear is the iso-8? Looks fun regardless I might wait till it goes on sale or try and find it used.

i need to know are the pads still graphite do the sliders have a pad added to them so it is graphite on graphite not gold plated steel on graphite...

Nah, it's definitely not a loot-based game. You're basically just getting XP drops in several forms. It looks and plays a little like Diablo, but it's closer to 80's/90's beat-em-ups.
The more I play it, the more disappointed I am with it. There isn't really much skill to it. There aren't any button sequence combos and there isn't really any way to do anything flashy or get better at the game beyond just dodging a lot. It's mindless fun and there are a boatload of characters, but there's minimal depth. The graphics are straight up ugly, too.

Any specific date on when we'll start seeing the new Switch model? I was planning on getting one but at this point it seems like I should just wait since the refresh has better battery life (even though I'll likely almost never use it portable - my son might eventually when he's a year or two older).

August/September. Probably be hard to find since they will still old stock out there too.

That's a conundrum on whether or not I want to wait...on the one hand, there are a couple of games I want to play now (the new Fire Emblem being one) - but also, that new battery life seems pretty worthwhile for traveling etc.

I would assume they'll start shipping when the Lite does and hit stores at the same time. I'm sure as it gets closer, we'll know the SKU(s) to look out for to know which is the older and newer version.

Seem they are out there now. They come in red boxes so easy to tell the difference. The controllers are slightly different on the outside so maybe they are revised and won't suffer from the drift issues. I am sure people will be looking into it in the coming days.

Got my pre-order in for the Pokemon edition of the Switch Lite. Hopefully Nintendo fixes their account bullshit so I can use both the Lite and the normal Switch interchangeably without needing to constantly do a system transfer.

Yeah I'd like to get a Lite as well in the future so my son can use it as well, but as is, kind of pointless.

Really? Damn. I went ahead and purchased a first gen switch a couple days back, couldn't wait. Really enjoying it though. For me, I don't think I'll play it off the dock unless I go on a vacation and take a plane or something like that.

I have a hardware hackable on latest ofw this whole thing with the lite and new switch has me tempted to hack it.

I'll be joining the Switch family today. Comes with Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (My son will love this game, meh for me). Will have to hit up 2ndnhand shops for better games.

But my immediate question is. Can I use a liquid glass screen protector on it or would it be better to find a tempered glass one.

Oh and do you have to charge from the dock or can I order a 2nd charger and charge from the USB c port, if so any recommendations for an on the go charger

screen protectors depend on how much you like to use the dock some glass ones are too thick or scratch easy as for chargers stick to quality chargers. I use a 60W Rav power 6 port and 36w 2 port charger for mine i also have a 21500 mAh rav power battery i use. i dont bother with car charging it. But there is a authorized hori car charger...

Got the switch. I'll look into tempered ones. Will be mostly used for on the go at work. Will need better games sooner then later though

I just got one of the $9 glass protectors at Best Buy (was licensed by Nintendo) and it fits in the dock fine and seems to not smudge too easily either.

Typically people get the Switch for Zelda and Mario Odyssey alone and those two games alone will last you a few hundred hours easily.

I got my Switch back in May right before I moved overseas because I was going to be without my household goods for at least a couple months (still don't have them yet and get them next week actually) and have been wanting to play those games for a while. What little game time I've had the past few years typically went into PS4 exclusives otherwise. But since then, I've just been playing Zelda BotW alone most nights and maybe Mario Party with the family in our hotel, and am at least 60 hours into it I'd say right now and maybe half way through the main story of the game. Haven't even touched Mario Odyssey yet and got Donkey Kong on sale in the eShop a month or two ago too, which looks awesome.

But most of the first-party Nintendo games alone are good time-sinks if you don't have ADD and like to stick with one game through completion. Even a few of them should keep you occupied for a long time before you should be asking for "better games sooner then later".

I'll be getting BOTW and Skyrim this weekend. Used up credit at game stop for Lego World's and a carrying case that I'm not a fan of. Also grabbed a cheap($2) game called Hollow from eShop to get me by.

Only major downside so far is that I'm going to need a bigger gaget bag now

I got a 256GB SD card and went all-digital so I wouldn't have to keep up with carts, esp. since my kids will be playing this too. It's worth the convenience to me to not have to physically switch carts/games or worry about them getting lost. There are routine sales in the eShop with some of them being first-party Nintendo titles as well (sometimes getting down to almost half off at $30-$40, so keep a look out on there every week or so.

But I just got two of those $100 game vouchers they sale in the eShop that are good for two games at $60+ in the eShop since I had to have BoTW and Odyssey at least. Got Mario Party with the other voucher and have yet to use my last one still. They're not a great value at only saving $20 across two $60+ games, but better than nothing since I was going to buy the games regardless when I got the Switch. They had just started selling them the week that I got my Switch, so at least I timed it right to save a little bit on them, heh.

I'm balling on the 'Weekly paychecks are nice, but suck in the real world' budget. we'll have to wait a couple weeks and tell myself my wife are paid again and we can go for some more fun games.

I prefer digital media in general as well and may go that route as well. Right now I have 2 games that somewhat hold my interest, co-workers have offered to loan me games as well. And 2 of the games my kiddos can play.

In my house to use electronics, our kiddos have to set new goals and reach those goals to earn time. It works fairly well to fight screen zombies syndrome and after giving my oldest an hour to play on it last night he already has a number of goals he wants to hit to play more Lego World.

This may work out nicely for their goals at home and during school.

I'm all about digital downloads when possible. They're generally pricier since you can't get 'em used (and discounts are hit and miss) but it's nice having access to your library anywhere sans carts and disks.

From memory, aren't the Nintendo downloads tied to your system rather than your account? I know they used to be, but I can't recall if the Switch changed that.

Been a few days with it. Rocked the online NES emulator and was able to pick up breath of the wild and Skyrim for it. I've enjoyed what I've played in BOTW(I've owned Skyrim for every console its it on and PC, grabbed it for easy play and save while on lunch or work road trips)

My most awesome wife surprised me and made a custom decal for the back of it too

Yes it's switch safe material.

Added perk is:

I used the off cut part and some spray paint to hopefully make my phone a little harder to lose(green you see is from when we painted our house last may).

All in all I've enjoyed the switch and look forward to adding some Mario games to it as well

How do I access the online NES emulator? I have never been able to find it. I do have the nintendo monthly subscription.

Might be under the Subscription menu in the eShop? I can't remember, but you have to download the NES app to the Switch to play the games.

I saw it while looking around the eShop. I did have to sign up for the free week to use it

anyone else using the online stuff? Mario Tennis was free all weekend and i tried to play some on saturday morning. Of the 7 online matches i attempted, i was disconnected from 2(with a stern warning my reputation would be downgraded) and got "network error" the other 5 times with no message.

Like how shifty is this thing, i have ATT gig fiber and play PSN and on my PC and never have connection problems. Is their service just trash?

It is just trash.

I only got the subscription for the online game save backups really. The NES games are a decent perk, but most of the games on there aren't ones I care to play or ones I had growing up. Though I did play Punch Out for a while the other day and got my son into it since he was watching me murder everyone up to Tyson :D.

I absolutely cannot wait until they bring Virtual Console back though and am completely baffled as to why it hasn't happened yet over 2 years into the Switch's life cycle.

Nintendo released an updated Switch with a more power efficient processor and graphics. Online reports state about 25% more battery life out of the same old battery size.
Gamestop is giving $225 for old Switches, so essentially $75 to upgrade to a newer more efficient model. I went in and did it today.

Yeah I considered it, I just bought my switch 20 days ago. 5 days outside of the Best Buy return policy or I probably would've. I saw some people calling Nintendo and they were letting them if purchased on or after July 17 but TBH don't feel like paying shipping cost to send back to Nintendo and waiting. If I used it more on the go or off the dock I probably would, but I only use it at home and have only ever used it off dock for an hour or so max. Not a fan of small screens. If they did some kind of Switch Pro I'd definitely jump on that but I highly doubt anything like that will ever happen. Been playing X Men Ultimate Alliance and Dragon Quest Builders 2, both fun games. Probably going to pick up the new Fire Emblem this week, not playing a ton but already creating backlog with this thing.

I'm content with mine. Been enjoying it and the fact that it can run Homebrew as well.
