AMD CEO Lisa Su rumored to leave, eyeing CEO role at IBM

I seriously hope this isn't true. I cannot begin to express how impressed I've been with how she's helped turn them around. If she does go she's established a great path for them that would still keep them competitive for a while longer but she'd definitely a tough act to replace.

Yeah, I do not see that happening, especially with AMD being where their at right now. Looks more like an attempt to discredit AMD or do damage to their stock. Business as usual, I see?

yeah unless they're offering her a 10 figure deal which i doubt IBM can offer i just don't see it happening.. well unless AMD buys IBM.... or IBM buy's AMD and she takes over as CEO of both companies.

There'd be more than a few members here that would need therapy and counseling if Lisa did leave AMD.

See post above yours. Also, sure there would, when there is greatly reduced competition, and those folks are celebrating their greatly increased prices again, yep. :)

You can add me to the list of the Lisa Su fan club. Watching her stint at AMD, she seem like a person who likes to be personally invested in the cause of the company, not just shopping around for the next sweetheart deal. If she were to leave AMD, I believe it would only because she felt she had done all she could for the company, and was looking for another challenge in life.

You should maybe do a little research on how much larger IBM is that AMD.

lol shhh.. i did after i saw rockenroosters post.. :p i honestly haven't paid attention to IBM in years, didn't realized how big the company still is.

I definitely don't see it happening either. At the moment she's basically in the middle of making AMD competitive and challenging again and doing a damn good job of it. It's a challenge for her and more of challenge to come yet which I'm betting she likes.

Not to mention I don't think there's any real reason for her to move to IBM. IBM really isn't more than a patent company at this point and there would be little or nothing there for her to use her talents on. The idea that she'd go there where the fit would be so horrible is mind boggling.

AMD talent bleed continues...sad if true. One of the best ceos they have had and a big loss if she leaves imo.
People need to remember IBM set her as CEO of AMD in first place. I'm sure Lisa wants to be CEO of IBM - and have no fear AMD would not be abandoned anyway.

IBM is primarily a (shitty) service company now... It would be a step down.

Sounds like bs to me...

This.

IBM is garbage, and their cloud offerings I've used so far are garbage. Su would be insane to jump there. Intel would've been a much better landing place for her and we saw that didn't happen either.

1) Believe it or not - not everything is about money.

2) A CEO not confirming true rumors borders on market manipulation and undermines any credibility.

Grow up.

What would you expect her to say? She can't very well confirm a rumor even if there is truth to it.
If it is true she could have ignored it. Now she will be labeled a liar if it is real. I am unaware of her having a history of public false claims or not but it's not a good look if she denies something that winds up being true. Therefore, I suspect it is not true.

I think the AMD stock price is more important to her than confirming our denying rumors or being labeled a liar. I don't doubt there have been discussions with IBM. Whether or not an offer has been made is another story.

If she used weasel words here you might have an argument. But she said:"Just for the record, zero truth to this rumor".

That is a definitive statement about something that materially affects AMD and it's stock price, so she can't outright lie.

She could be sued by any shareholder that would lose money and sanctioned by the SEC, if it were later revealed that she was talking to IBM about a role there.

It's funny how some people will leap to all kind of fantasy scenarios over vague general statements that say nothing, then when faced with a direct and clear statement, start suddenly becoming skeptical.

I guess we'll see what happens in a year or two.

Might want to close the thread, since this is FUD.
I'll speculate though... Dr Lisa Su is not going to be leaving AMD because She wants to take it beyond IBM, or Nvidia or Intel.

This is a hit piece for sure.

I tend not to believe this mainly because from the looks of things AMD is set to continue making gains and curbstomping Intel for at least the next year. Why would you leave now-ish when you can basically ride the share price by doing nothing and look like even more of a genius?

Obviously you want to get out at the "top" but I'm sure Lisa Su knows better than anyone the extent of the gains AMD stands to make in the next few years. It would certainly be unfortunate if AMD lost her, though.

Or.. if you were to leave, you do it on a upswing. You don’t leave when a company is down. It looks like you’re being pushed away or jumping ship. Leave when things are getting back together for the company.

Happens all the time.

Um, excuse me... I'm an IBM contractor, I don't appreciate a large portion of my side hustle being called shitty.

But really though, I'm a contractor, so I don't care.

Intel is pulling every dirty trick and calling in every favor. But it isn't helping. AMD is killing them in market share in Asia right now.

And this right before the new Epyc announcement?

Riiiight....

The only thing that made this semi believable was that IBM is where she started. If she does ever leave AMD... IBM would be a good fit. Its due for a turn around.

Part of me wishes this had been true. Fuck X86... IBM 7nm power 10 is on the way, Lisa could head over there and bring us 5nm Power 11. lol

She was seen talking to IBM while at a recent Grand Prix. Then again it's probably just the industry is so close and nothing wrong with chatting it up.

I agree, she'd do IBM a ton of good, who knows what POWER could be with a few years of her.

IBM is a disaster, they will merge into red-hot in 10 years. That's their only viable business these days.

just when things are looking up for AMD, disaster always follows...they can never stay on top for long
