Perhaps we can have a "VS" thread with poll so it seems less like thread crapping to some people to mention the competition.

As I said in another thread:

If I were buying in this range today, at exactly these price points I would get:

at $350: The RX 5700 because regular RTX 2060 is weaker at RT, and only has 6GB(2GB deficit), and is further behind on traditional performance.
at $400: The RTX 2060 Super, because it is closer to 5700 XT in traditional performance(relative to the gap in the $350 cards), has more viable RT performance, and equal VRAM.

But that doesn't give a clear answer. I think I would go the Extra $50 and get the 2060 Super, so it is what I will choose.

Poll also includes the regular 2060 (which I think is now dead) because it matches the entry level 5700 pricing.

5700xt as I've always had a slight bias towards amd/ati, though I will happily run intel/nvidia hardware if the price/performance is notably better. At similar pricing AMD/ATI get my money.

After reading reviews and seeing the results of a few owners on various forums, I would get the 5700xt.

But, I am not looking to upgrade at the moment, I am waiting for the next round of cards.

Waiting for next gen, very happy RTX 2070 owner for 1/2 year or so. Paid less than $500 for a PNY RTX 2070 OC version and it does very well.

(Well maybe a RTX 2080 Super if I get really bored in the fall)

I would have bought the 5700xt several months ago in a heartbeat. But AMD decided to release Vega 7 instead. That card wasn't what i was after. I needed a card back then as my sons 7950 died and i gave him my RX480. So i ended up buying an RTX card to try out RT and have been so far impressed with its features and performance.

If I had to buy today it would be a 2070 Super without question but I'm waiting for their next big thing in 2020, hopefully with better RT performance. I'm still using a GTX1080 and at 1080p so I have yet to not be able to run anything maxed at 60fps. I'm also hoping to upgrade my projector to a 4K model by then so that extra horse power will be needed.

I still don't trust AMD enough to invest in one of their GPUs unless the price was significantly lower than nvidia's with comparable performance.

How much faster is the 5700XT than a 1080 GTX? That's really the question I have. The Blower style is perfect for me as it's going into a front room Home Theater PC I game on more than I used to.

Yeah,it really looks like the need for blower cards is, ummm, overblown.

One of the few tests I have found:
https://techbuyersguru.com/founders-edition-vs-open-air-video-card-coolers-definitive-analysis

It looks like you have to work very hard to make an open air card as bad as a blower.
I'm not looking for cooling the graphics card so much as not dumping the waste heat into my Home Theater cosmetic looking PC Chassis that has shit for airflow. Lighting my entertainment console on fire would be a bad thing. lol

I'd find some way to add airflow, honestly. For an HTPC, I'd want an AIO on the CPU and GPU so that front-to-back airflow may be maintained.

Got the AIO on the CPU already, crammed as many fans into it as possible to push air through the chassis, it does ok right now with the 1080 GTX Blower I have in there. Was really looking for something comparable (just faster). I have had Zotac Dual Fan 970 GTX's in there before, the case got pretty damn hot.

As a rule, it's going to get hot. The bigger concern I imagine is whether the CPU and GPU are throttling under load, and what the noise profile looks like under load. You're going to give up some performance to get a system that is balanced for the application- the only problem with using Navi with the stock blower is that the stock blower is worse than most blowers AMD has released recently and probably anything Nvidia has released in over five years.

No way around it getting hot, I'm not even pushing the 8600 that hard at 4.3 right now. What I probably need to do more than anything is de-lid it and I wasn't really feeling like doing that. Never done it before. Thus I don't push the CPU too hard.

The 1080 is doing ok, I was just looking for something faster at 4K that wouldn't break the bank. It's not my main rig.

I had read some of the 5700XT reviews but I had no idea it's blower was that bad. I will wait for new designs then. Thank you for the heads up!

On that link they tested in a Silverstone Raven RVZ02 ITX case. Not exactly a high airflow case.

The CPU did get 5 degrees hotter, but noise was 33 dB (open air) vs 50 dB! (blower). dB scale is not linear. I take a bit hotter to have it a LOT quieter for a HTPC.

I currently have a GTX1070Ti. I only considered the RTX2070 as an upgrade. But now I would consider the RTX 2060 Super

Throw in the 1600 series and the waters get murkier.

If I had to buy today, nVidia gets my money - but only because AMD insists on that crappy blower reference. Probably either the 2060 Super or 1660Ti, depending on where my wallet is at the time.

Once AIBs come out on the AMD cards, it becomes a toss up for me.

Honestly, kinda waiting to see if a 5800 doesn't come out before the end of the year. I'm currently on a 980, it would certainly be upgraded, but I'm not exactly hurting either in the games I'm playing.

I'm lost because I haven't been paying attention. I would really need to see a price comparison laid out for each as well as an FPS comparison averaged over a dozen games.

But then again, it's all moot. I'm using a 1080 and my kid with an outdated 7850 hasn't been saving for a replacement so he has no budget.

Not voted. Lets see in a couple months when many people have the cards in hand (specifically AIB models) and then see reviews for them. One thing for sure, will never touch an AMD ref blower design.

Btw, heres a perf summary of the 2 cards for 21 games at all resolutions:

Tempted to go with 5700xt water blocked BUT that would cost as much as the 2070 Super ... If I’m dropping 500 may as well get the Super as it cools and runs well out of the box.

What I’m hoping for is a nice AIB 5700xt for under 500 — then I’m a buyer.

In short waiting for AIB 5700s then deciding.

I have a 1080ti, some of the software I run uses CUDA and I use NVENC. I am tied to NV for now.

I also use the whole 11gig of memory on the card for one piece of software I use (Davinci)

if my vega 56 wasn't already doing fine in the games i play my money would definitely go to the 5700XT once the custom cards come out since my spending cap on any single part of my system is 400 bucks. have no desire to mess with RTX with this generation. maybe next year that'll change.

I didn't vote as I'm sitting out this generation of upgrades (and probably the next). I'm spending most of my compute time on work and they provide the equipment I need for that purpose.

However, if I were to build something I'd be very tempted to wait until the 12/24 Zen2 Threadripper comes out and pair it with either the Radeon VII or the new Radeon RX 5700 XT (if I had a lot of money, both!). It would be awesome to have an all Team Red system. My last AMD system had a Voodoo Banshee so it didn't qualify as all Team Red.

Bought an msi 2070 duke oc 6 months ago at a sweet price. Figured i would give rt a shot, meh. Put it under water and cant complain. It is a solid card overall. Couldnt justify going with anything faster due to the ridiculous pricing. Nv bores me at this point.
If i needed a new card right now i would go the 5700xt route and wc it as well. The cooling component means zilch. It gets pulled as soon as i verify its working properly. Would much rather give amd my loot.
If i had it to do over again i would have waited another gen to upgrade.

I always love it when people continue to jump onboard the early-release AMD GPU train, despite the fact that the drivers are always incredibly buggy for the first 3 months. But I guess you folkcs can't see yourself being cutting-edge without having driver bugs galore?

The 5700 is a better value than the 2060, but the 5700 XT (the vast winner of the poll above) is within 5% of the 2060 Super, with exactly the same amount of ram. All with mature drivers.

Waiting. I want to see the rest of the AMD lineup. 5700 and 5700xt are not Polaris replacements. Priced to high for me. But definitely leaning more AMD than NV based on OSS Linux drivers.

Well, for one it's available now which the Super isn't. And in the techspot "average" performance charts over a range of games, it's within 5% of the 2070 Super. I'll reserve judgment on how bad the drivers are until I run into issues.

Yes, the 5700 XT is 5% faster than the 2060 Super, and is 5% slower than the 2070 Super, and doesn't being RTX support to the table.

That happens because, just like the 5700 and the 5700 XT, the two products are within 10% of each other performance-wise.

While I will admit that the RTX 2070 Super is overpriced, it doesn't negate the fact that the 2060 Super is suddenly an excellent value.

The 2060 Super is way better value than the 5700 XT, because (with RTX 2070 speed and memory capacity) it actually has enough performance for future RTX at 1080p. And we all know this is where games will be within the next six months.

And you can buy the 2060 Super as of today, so no, you're not up-to-date.

What do you mean Super isn't available? Both FE cards from NVidia and AIB cards have been available since July 9th (two whole days after AMD).

I am just not buying that the 2060 is going to be powerful enough for next gen games. I will take the rasterization performance of the 5700XT now and in 6 months when new games come out I can revisit.

And on a side note why are we always saying wait 6 months for the games? We are coming up on a year in August of the RTX series release. And we have maybe one or two compelling games.

Being able to selectively enable the features you want is better than just having to leave it all off because you bought outdated technology that is only 5% faster.

This isn't a fucking game console you're buying here, it's PC games with fully-configurable options.

And quit calling it a 2060 just to deride it's future potential; it's an RTX 2070 for all intents and purposes (including the 8GB ram, and 256-bit memory bus). That's more than capable of playing
Single player Battlefield 5 at 1080 Ultra:

I didn't call it the 2060, Nvidia did...

There's no need to talk down to me just because you disagree.

iirc the old ati 1950xtx maybe 1950xt were damn good cards for the time.looking at the 5700xt. thought the 2070 super for the most part has my money interest

nvidia's drivers are far more buggy than AMD drivers and Radeon Settings is far and above a better UI than nvidia's stuff.

Yeah, I went online and got a 2060 Super without any problems at all.

Major upgrade for one of my older kids who has been kicking butt in school, so in line with the Work [H]ard / Play [H]ard mantra - I reward accordingly.
