Has anyone tried using the licensing manager /upk method to remove the digital activation of Windows 10, then reinstall the OS to see if it automatically reactivates again? I know that will deactivate the computer, but will it reactivate if you reinstall is what I'm looking for.

I'm curious if anyone has found a way to disassociate a motherboard with a digital Windows activation that actually works.

It depends on if you have an OEM key or a retail key. If its OEM, there's no way to disassociate it since OEM is a one and done deal. I've moved around OEM keys to different motherboards without an issue though. YMMV. Retail should have no issues moving from system to system.

I wonder how these free licenses I obtained for Win10 beta behave, will I be able to move them to another computer... They say Win10pro but nothing about OEM.

Not that it matters much, I haven't booted Windows for many months.

They should. You would be surprised at how loose their activation is. They really want people on for the numbers (saying that X percent of all PCs use windows 10) and for the data collection.

Yeah, I was able to still upgrade for free on a Windows 7 machine only a couple of days ago.

I'm not entirely certain why they are still charging for keys for single home users at this point.

?? Brand new machines with no OS on them need something... When I build new systems I use a OEM SB copy, those are not free. :p

Correct, which is why I don't understand why they still charge for it for home users when they are collecting anyways.

You can always download Windows 10 directly from microsoft & when you install, you chose "I don have a key" and it still lets you install it....at least as of a few months ago (last I tried)

buy one of those OEM keys from ebay for 2 dollars.

then you can keep both activated copies.

Thanks. I guess I have to ask someone on that website about that photo. Or not. :wacky:
