Warning = Bitcoin in coming ..

I'm starting to wonder if I can get by with a console honestly. I have to play around with my Xim some more on my PS4 to see if that can cut it.

I just checked ebay prices on RX580's. They are still pretty normal. I can always just use a 1080p monitor and one of those.

BTC kissing $13K today. The last GPU price bubble/shortage lasted, what, a year?
2077 is a mid 2020 release at earliest. I'd venture a SWAG that my 480 could push mid 30's at medium, since they'll still be selling for the current consoles
I certainly don't need a 1660ti for what I'm playing now (or Outer Worlds in the fall/winter earliest), and that's the most I would spring for at 1080p.

Maybe wait it out.

I'd bet more than a few FOMO's are still feeling the burn of buying a $200 card for $600 right as the walls came down last year. It may not be so bad this time around.

Yes, this.
Cards aren't exactly cheap now, other than the liquidated Polaris mining parts. 16xx series is inflated IMHO.
Unless moving to 1440p or higher, not much incentive to upgrade.

everyone should be good gpu wise for abit unless something really changes. there are no cryptos that are nearly as enticing (or remotely profitable as last time) unless the minable alts make a LARGE jump we wont see a videocard fury.

I have never mined before and I have a 1080 Ti (refurbished from Zotac) arriving on Friday. Would it make sense to mine at 12 cents/KWh? I also have a 1060 6GB I could add as well, although that would likely be pushing my 650W PSU to run both of them (looks like the load would be right at 658W). If so, what should I mine?

no. you would only be looking at a few dollars a month in profit. and dont push your psu that hard it will kill it. keep it at like 80% and it will be much happier

False. A 1080 Ti plus a 1060 6GB would currently gross about $80/month and would net around $58/month at 12c/kWh. Unless you have obscene power prices, it's definitely profitable to GPU mine right now.

Yeah the problem is it can be so quick, like the last month.

I just checked it was 13.2K USD

yeah it is very volatile last few days.

This is 9:19 this morning

lol mining what coin?

the difference is last time mining was profitable for the entirety of the jump (i was making abunch of money when ether was $10. this time the alts need to jump way up to return to profitability.

Those look like nicehash numbers for the 1080 ti.

I remember awhile back that Sapphire was talking 16Gb RX 570 for miners ..
Ya there was a coin that was hot and needed or excelled @16 GB. I would assume the V2 would kick ass. I am doubting the coin is that relevant now.
PS- whatever happened to cheap cards with silly amounts of memory? I recall all kinds of GF2-MX's with ridiculous amounts of RAM back in the day.

I think there was a high disk space coin I saw people talking about on [H] too.
I think that would be Burst or the newer BitcoinHD.
I found the coin in question. It is called Grin. Seems to be doing okay actually. At least of late as most crypto ;)

Maybe I should get 10 more 5700xt's and sell them when the next boom happens

I got my 3x 2080tis. Now I just need the 3950x to launch so I can cascade my ryzens across my rigs. I have a 2080ti running on a Ryzen 1400. lol

Prices can go up for a few years for all I care, I'm set! Hell I hope they triple so I can sell the cards and fall back on my crappy backups.

It'll fail because some two bit exchange ($7M in daily volume when most reputable exchanges are doing well into the hundreds of millions per day) scammed people out of money?

Bitcoin has survived the failure of Mt.Gox. The failure of some shitty exchange isn't going to even be a blip on the radar.

All it takes is the United States to shut it down. Done for. Zilch gone. Dont doubt the tyrannical despotistic potential of super governments.
