BioWare's new IP: Anthem

I'll be honest cataclysm looks boring and dumb as shit. And there's no way that was the original intention at the start of all of this, they had it open for awhile back in the beta(?) in the normal world. Where the further you progressed into it the tougher and tougher the enemies got.

Actually it does not matter how much of the content is there it stands or falls if they implemented the right reward system.

So...What happened to the promise that Cataclysm would change the game world? A new area that you have to load into, separate from the base game, doesn't sound like "world changing" to me. Sounds like Bioware is failing on yet another promise. Anthem was supposed to be a "living, changing, world".

Although Cataclysm is intended to be playable by anyone at any level, it's primarily designed for groups of four players, with a particular emphasis on replay...to that end, it features one core objective - to defeat the faction leader Vara - but encourages repeat visits, exploration, and experimentation through a new score multiplier and leaderboard system, enabling players to compete against friends, guild mates, and the world

Sounds like Anthems "game changer" is Destiny 2's nightfall strikes.

Doesn't it sound more like they got screwed over by EA when the game launched and again when their PR department decided to over sell a game feature which was only there on paper.

And since then Bioware been trying to clean up that mess and to be honest Anthem will always fall short due to afore mentioned events.

Ya sorry you can't blame EA on this one. Bioware shit the bed again and again, this is all on them.

Neither party is innocent. EA was aware of the state of the game and the promises being made long before launch. As owners of Bioware the responsibility lies on their head to not allow an unfinished, unready, product out the door. A lot (but not all) of the development problems are on Bioware's head, but it actually releasing in the state it did is on EA's head. The game should have been delayed again, or cancelled, but EA refused to.

At some point EA needs to get games out. They can’t give BioWare forever to keep making bad decisions and failing. I guarantee BioWare was frantically telling EA everything was under control and would be fixed soon. Seen this myself many times on software products across the industry.

Pretty clear the game is dead at this point. The Catclysm doesn’t seem interesting enough to bring people back and BioWare seems determined to keep pissing people off by making the loot suck.

Then it should have been cancelled. I get that games can't be delayed forever (same thing happened with Duke Nukem Forever) but it doesn't absolve the publisher from blame for releasing it.

Ya Boards and Stockholders tend to frown on blowing a lot of money with zero return.

Literally the dumbest response I've seen in awhile.

So I'm expected to just absolve EA of responsibility because they chose shareholders over consumers? Fuck that noise. I am neither a board member nor a shareholder. I am a consumer and, as a consumer, I care about the product that was delivered. You can make all the lame excuses you want (and that's all they are) but it doesn't change EA's fault in the release.

Even if I were a shareholder I'd be pretty annoyed at EA given they allowed a game with so much promise to crash and burn.

I haven't played Anthem since the end of March but will give it another go when the Cataclysm event starts...I still think the core gameplay is solid it just needs to be refined and expanded upon...the jetpack and combat are pretty fun, it just gets repetitive

Talking about things that make no sense , piss away a project for over 5 years screw your customers with bugged release for another 6 months . You shot yourself in the foot by doing this more then shell out 6 months of pay which if you watched the sales numbers would have been earned back easily since they did not reach 4 million sales and they were targeting 6 million.

No buddy it does not work like that in game development. You have a bunch of milestones before you release the game. Someone with half a brain at EA could have looked at the latest milestone and figure it out themselves.
Game developers will not ship a bugged unfinished game period

And if you are going to suggest miss communication between Bioware and EA then no project that EA does would ever be finished.
To reiterate this the exact same thing happened with Bioware with SWTOR , devs heard they were launching in February at Christmas that game was a bugfest and unfinished as well...

Btw stock holders do not buy games the idea that you screw your paying customers to alienate the one thing that is critical to your company is also bullshit , if you can't sell games then stock holders will not buy your stock ..............

The other day I got something which I thought it was pretty special :) Until I saw it was a marksman rifle never the less worth sharing ;)

Wondering how to get this into any build , the bad thing is I don't play Colossus or Ranger ...

Given that stats are meaningless your LMG is probably better even considering the weakpoint damage bonus.

Started a Ranger and that damage is sick from death from above marksman rifle hits very hard when I'm playing in hard difficulty over 29K hits (weak spots)on the queen in tyrant mines.

have you tried the test server?...how's the Cataclysm event?

Tried them both (freeplay and special event) and I can't say that I'm bowled over by it. Only once on a spec that was not mine using Storm and I did not want to grind for items , but from what I heard is that finally GM3 is worth playing (rewards are scaled GM1 seems to be the worst).

I said from the beginning that all of these live service games need at least 1 year until they can be fully judged...so Anthem has 8 months left

No. It can, and should, be judged based on exactly how it is now and how it was at release. If it can’t be judged for a year then it shouldn’t be sold for that year. This “don’t judge it for an arbitrary time “ bullshit only excuses publishers releasing these games in the the shitty state titles like Anthem and Fallout 76 were. They released the game, they want people to pay for it, it is open to any and all judging.

I said 'fully judged'...you can judge it now but my point is that the game might be drastically different a year from now- like Destiny, The Division etc...these live service games evolve and aren't the same as traditional ones which stay basically the same

And neither of those games were utterly broken trash at release.

The term you are looking for is “reevaluate” not “fully judge”.

Dear god that Marksman rifle is something else it hits like a truck on most mobs in GM1 on bosses it does stupid damage I don't have much legendary gear but with 3 marksman riffle consumables the legendary Markman riffle component It goes over 73K damage per shot (hits 3 times) when doing the Monitor on his head....

New patch today nothing earth shattering. New patch that is coming 1.3 will have cataclysm and removes(it becomes armour) the luck stat.

Cosmetic Fixes - Fixed a number of bugs that prevented select cosmetic items from being presented correctly in Prospero’s store and/or the Forge.

UI Fixes

● Fixed an issue where the mouse cursor would disappear on specific instances when going into the Forge (while using keyboard & mouse controls).

Various other minor UI bug fixes.

Combat Fixes - Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause characters and enemies to appear frozen after the frozen effect had worn off.

Matchmaking - We’ve made some additional improvements to our matchmaking experience by enabling longer timers for players to match into a squad, while also fixing a bug from a previous update that forced some players to matchmake for longer than intended. The new max limit for matchmaking should take no longer than 90 seconds.

I'll give the game another go when 1.3 hits...I haven't played in 3 months (Sekiro and a replay of the Rocksteady Arkham trilogy have been keeping me busy)

EA CEO says Anthem is 'not working very well' but vows to stick with it (and BioWare)

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson acknowledged that Anthem was a disappointment, but said that the game is "compelling" enough at its core that BioWare and EA are going to stick with it—and that he believes it can still be made into "something special and something great."...Wilson said he believes the game's foundational elements—the game world, characters, Javelin suits—are "compelling," and that a property like Anthem "lives for generations, and runs in these seven to ten year cycles."

"So, if I think about Anthem on a seven to ten year cycle, it may not have had the start that many of us wanted, including our players," he said. "I feel like that team is really going to get there with something special and something great, because they've demonstrated that they can...
