VideoCardz: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X to become world’s first 16-core gaming CPU

Intel will have a 10C / 20T which should be competitive with the 3900X if they can keep the clocks where they are however I don't see a path to compete with the 3950X on the mainstream. That will not happen until they get 7nm or move to MCM.

AMD has just taken a majority of Intels HEDT sales and it is HUGE for them.

That isn't true. AMD took the crown only in the DYI market. Intel wins in the professional workstation market. Overall Skylake-X sells more than ThreadRipper.

it won't be on the 115x platform though

so it's not competing directly with it.

There is little to no "silicon lottery" with any of the Zen's. Cool adequately, and they are all within a few 100 MHz. Your paying for out of the box speed/OC. and that is fine.
No magic here!
So you are saying that any Zen2 will be able to hit 4.7 GHz boost like the 3950X?

New socket again? I thought that was the next mainstream to replace the 9900K arriving in late Q4 2019 or Q1 2020

New chipset and socket last I heard. I'm sure it will be similar to 115X, but just different enough to justify a new motherboard. Very likely the same mounting holes for HSF's.

Will it support DDR5?
I know that Zen will have a new socket soon Zen4? or Zen3?

I don't remember definitively, but I think it was DDR4.

Although I might be conflating Comet Lake and Ice Lake in my mind.

Which is really interesting.

There’s a lot of IT folks that won’t look anywhere but Intel. Should be interesting when you can get a comparable chip for a fraction of the cost.

What? Intel's HEDT sold very well. And AMD has taken a big chunk of those numbers. Now they are offering a 600+ chip and less then half the price of slower/hotter chip's? AMD has just taken a majority of Intels HEDT sales and it is HUGE for them. With the new ThreadRipper's coming, Intel has just lost ALL OF their highest margin non enterprise segments.

Sold very well compared to what? Mainstream cpus? I think not. Compared to server skus, sure. Intel HEDT sales are a drop in the bucket to their revenue stream.

Please provide links to AMD taking majority of Intel HEDT sales. Also, please provide links to Intel losing all of their highest margin non enterprise segments. LOL.

HEDT wouldn't have sold worth a shit compared to any server or mainstream SKU's. Not even close. HEDT is like the Corvette. It's for bragging rights and the enthusiast, but Chevrolet sells far more Silverado's than Corvette's. Out of those, more Silverado's are mid-level trim trucks than high end trucks with leather and all that crap.

I know that and you know that. Others not so much.
