Too Good to be True, A Recap of The Lead-up to Zen 2

There are only so many hours in a day. Care to summarize the hour long video with time stamps of highlights?

It's a follow up to the previous video from back December 2018, which said that the now infamous "leaks" are fake.

The new video pretty much said, "Ha! I told you so!".

Previous video:

You-know-who just released a new video where he...

1.) blames Lisa Su for being anti-consumer and for jacking up the prices

2.) said that most people are "disappointed", and

3.) absolved himself for being wrong about his "leaks" by saying that AMD could have changed names and prices at any time

Entertaining ;)
Just look up the word speculation.

He looked up the improvement from Radeon VII and compared it with the 14nm Instinct 25 and discovered the clock speed improvement that Radeon VII got on 7nm somehow was not present when you looked at the same comparison between 1800X and 3800X. That was to him a disappointment.

Well lets call it an obvious observation that you can get caught up naming schemes and pricing and since it does not require anything to change that around.

I was pretty sure that those chips weren't going to be 16 cores on that socket and hit 5GHz with a 15% IPC improvement all at the same time. I can't see anyone being surprised by this. That's a pretty big increase for a CPU that's based on a chip that is 15% slower, has half as many cores and hits a wall of around 4.2GHz on all cores.

I don't consider a video where the person blame Lisa Su and AMD, instead of himself, to be "entertaining".

Like I said in another thread, you can't compare 7nm radeon with 7nm ryzen. Different team and different processor design, they won't have the same benefits from a new process.

I'm not to bothered by it AdoredTV (Jim) can have his own chain of thoughts can go anywhere.
So is TheRookie the new username of _mockingbird?

I did not put these things together until you replied with "you-know-who" statement, that I found entertaining ;)

I'm pretty sure by now everyone on [H] knows rumor is rumor and that youtubers has their own category of rumors lol.
This hype train is always killing it for AMD, they should do something about it... it's getting out of control and I doubt in their favor.

I have no clue how but starting their own channels with even more out of reach rumors with debunking later with "what did you think... not possible but here's what we did at that price bracket compared to competitor".
Maybe sponsor "personality" streamers ? They need more presence with the wider market and punch line marketing with [H] fellows which guide their peers when buying.

I'm sure the ban hammer came down hard on him after repeated warnings about bashing AdoredTV in EVERY thread. But he couldn't let it go so he just re-registered under a new username and continued using "you-know-who" verbage to avoid a 2nd permaban.

It will be compatible with my mobo..cool deal...not that I need it...that said if they drop prices...launch 3700 is still like 400$....

And then as it turns out, there is one after all (granted LN2 to hit 5Ghz), but a 4.7Ghz boost isn't too shabby. 3.5Ghz base clock.

Given that they only managed 5.3GHz or something like that on LN2, I am not hopeful for getting anywhere near that on water cooling. I think we'll be lucky to get 4.7GHz on all cores.

The 16 core doesn't appeal to me much, the 12 core however does :)

Well, I already have a 12 core Threadripper. So unless the 12 core part actually clocks higher than the 16 core part, the latter is more appealing to me.

Out of curiosity do you end up using that many cores?(Vms, compiling etc?) I'm more interested to run a VM at almost all times, and emulators (Device emulators etc). I figured for 16 core I would go for a TR2 setup instead , I'm going to assume at 16 cores with dual channel, were going to start seeing some memory bandwidth limitations (outside of gaming)

Not currently. I have had VM's on my main rig in the past, but I haven't in awhile. Its my intent to get back to that and to do some encoding again.

If we can just weed out unstable overclocks....I think it's bios setting both my 2600x sometimes would freeze in cinebech r15....first one I killed I got it to do 4.3...this one having a little trouble I did just pass r20 at 4.2 though lowered LLC whatever mode 4 and disabled current Protection stuff, spread spectrum global c states etc.
it hit 75c with the Mugen 5 at the end like 1.4v etc.

If I had the New Pump going and that Nickel Byski block it wouldn't go over 70c barely probably...it is a dopeee block/thick. but I'm moving and don't want to set up the liquid system on the desk yet.

definitely a 4.2 chip....I guess....others that lucked out and the one that will do 4.3...

We are fine with CB r20 at 4.2...

It is what it is...But I know the feeling everyone does feel we should be over 4.2 at least a little....

We now have a mainstream Enthusiast platform with the AMD Ryzen 9 CPUs & X570 motherboards.

^ no ones gonna pay top dollar for X570 watch...and no likewise a 400$ cpu…..they will wait till prices drop and drop it in X470...

Being honest I wouldn't...might as well get Intel and that upgrade at that....

Everyone already now feels like in the holeee on z270/7700k and how that feels dated already..even though still runs good my delidded one and LM on the EVGA FTW.

But they are doing what we wanted finally making moreee cores/thrds work and high clocks looking less significant.

it's not a big deal...like 90% there at 4.2 and damn near as good and responsive vs you all trying to and hunting for the 5ghz.

Like I said damn near good enough for me.

The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X (12C/24T) is 500 bucks, the Intel i9-9920X (12C/24T) is 1200 bucks...

The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X (16C/32T) is 750 bucks, the Intel i9-9960X (16C/32T) is 1700 bucks...

Explain to me how a X570 motherboard and Ryzen 9 CPU is a worse deal when I can get an AMD mobo & cpu for less than the price of the Intel CPU itself...?

What I said...their on a new Frontier and everything working out/for them, if they would just figure out some more gpu options.

I see it much much less again...saying you should go Intel.

While the AMD would likely be faster, you are comparing mainstream to HEDT.
You should be comparing the 3950X to the 9900k for maximum destruction lol!!! (both mainstream sockets)

I wonder how they sell those Intel CPUs when you can buy a 32 core TR for around the same price...

The same reason people buy thousands of dollars of gift cards to try to pay back the IRS caller threatening them with jail. People just blindly follow a lot of the time, even smart people.

The fake "leaks" said the the 12 core part would turbo 5.0 GHz and 16 core part would turbo to 5.1 GHz.

Then there are the Zen 2 APUs which aren't even't supposed to show up until next year, and the Zen+ APUs that are missing.

The only reason the fake "leaks" seems close in your chart is that you only cherry-picked things that are close and disregarded everything else.

Imagine I got 20% on a exam and only cherry-picked the problems that I got right to say that I did great!

That's exactly what you are doing.

Yes, I am comparing the AMD mainstream offerings to the Intel HEDT offerings, because I cannot match core/thread count if I compare to the Intel mainstream offerings...

Not sure what that is, but here is the original, wrong in just about every way imaginable. But most notably in price, which is what red flagged it to those that didn't fall into wishful thinking.

What it gets wrong:

Core counts and thus prices WAY off the mark.
It predicts 7nm APU built with chiplets. Didnt' happen at all.
Clock speeds are wrong and even increase in illogical manner. Highest base clock on 16 core.
TDP wrong.
Time announcement way off.

It's hard to figure how you could get so much wrong, even just guessing randomly...

The totality of ryzen 3000 is almost too good to be true. I'm not too worried about the small details. The reality is now, if the amd numbers turn out to be true, anybody who gets an 8 core or above is going to be sitting really pretty with good thermals, low power, and good to great performance for 5 years. Intel may catch up in a year or two, but the install base out there won't. These look to be once a in a decade chip architecture.

Yup. The only major flaw was in SKU names and price.
The core counts and clock speeds are scary accurate (just 2 less SKU's if you do not include the APUs), specially considering the leak (or whatever you want to call it) came 6 months ago.

One point I want to make, which is obvious to anyone looking, is the base clock on the 16 core part. It's lower to fit into AMD's self-imposed TDP target of 105W. Had the TDP been set higher, the base clock would match it higher too. As easy as that. No the CPU will not draw 105W under load, it'll draw a shitload more.

The TDP's for the lower end parts matches the lower end clocks. AMD, for one reason or another, thought it better to increase clock speeds, and thus TDP target was increased. Nothing too far off really. Just have to apply a little critical thinking.

HOWEVER, in the end it doesn't matter. I have the 16 core part in September, which I was waiting for.

(oh, one more thing, I'm not for or against anyone, any rumor or thought. I just take the info, apply a little logic, a bit of salt and realize that it may be right or it may be wrong. Who cares if it is either way... Arguing about someone elses speculations is dumb).

Wow I never seen so much bullshit from people on this forum. AdoredTV clearly says he has different sources clearly says take this with a grain of salt. Then you still debate stuff that was wrong as opposed to it not matter any more.

It is called speculation if it is not called speculation it would be designated as guessing , guess how many people think that it was guessing only the people with an agenda.

If you don't want guessing go visit these guys from hardware unboxed/techspot you certainly deserve them..

That's exactly what you are doing.

Yet you have to provide any other sources that disprove (no one did) (even Kyle Bennett said on this forum that what he saw on AdoredTV video was close to what he heard himself) any of this when those videos were out the only thing you keep doing is taking a dump under a different [H] login on AdoredTV. The hardware unboxed and Extreme tech you linked had opinion on prices nothing else.

If you get 20% right on speculation that is pretty good. It is not fortune telling it is not guessing it is what your sources tell you, you don't even know it is true and you go out on a limb and make an ass of yourself on youtube because what you post might be completely wrong. And in no way is an examination the same thing as speculation.
