Nvidia SUPER Refresh: Faster 2060, 2070, 2080, Faster GDDR6 and $100 Off

With both PS5 and Project Scarlett having RT support of some sort maybe AMD will talk about PC RT at their event tomorrow.
Regardless of if they do or not, WHEN AMD do it will be impactful. The two main consoles drive the industry. Whatever AMD decides to go with, will become an industry standard.
Like Matrox's push into EBM back in the day, we are seeing similar adoption for Nvidia's RT. Virtually none.
I assume RTX has sold well, even though it is only the 2080 and 2080ti that really can display RT at a level that is acceptable to enthusiasts. That is a meek chunk compared to the greater gaming industry.
Ya sure all the big engines have an RTX in development. But does that mean it is a priority? Does that mean it is a focus of the companies interests? Nope. All it means is that they are covering their bases. Nvidia's RT are on no major developers must do now, unless Nvidia is paying them. And so far that is the only software we have seen.
Meaning fuck-all, unfortunately.

Consoles and marketing...and "some sort of"...not buying it...every new console is hyped to much each generation.

You should read what devs post on social media...raytracing is comming to every major enigne due to DXR....and devs love it.
Unreal engine: https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia/epic-unreal-engine-nvidia-rtx-microsoft-dxr-support
Unity engine: https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia/unity-real-time-ray-tracing-rtx-support
Frositbite engine: https://www.ea.com/frostbite/news/r...ve-global-illumination-workflows-in-frostbite
Godot engine: https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/27355
Cry Engine: https://www.resetera.com/threads/cryengine-5-5-to-support-non-rtx-ray-tracing.105519/

You seem to forget this is Microsoft doing DXR...

LOL!
Everyone is in the game of course.
MS-DXR can only be done one way? Only Nvidia's first a temp works?

And they are making it a priority...you mad?
Hell, even old games are getting DXR...must be scary for you?

If you have NO clue what DXR are...why do you post and make yourself look stupid/ignorant? :)
Take a rage pill. And ya, old games. Hehe.
We will be pushing a year soon,ya. Not much on the horizon eh?
The "industry" aint doing back-flips for a minor percentage. CLEARLY!

Okay then. Why don't you explain what DXR is? From an exclusive Nvidia perspective of course.
Because it can only be done from one hardware of-course.
Right?

Just like the two main consoles being AMD for the last 6 years drove the industry to favor AMD CPUs and GPUs for gaming PCs? ;)

The industry standard for RT is DXR in Windows. That won't change. AMD will have to follow DXR APIs, not the other way around.

I have Pascal and could care less about the whole 3 games you can use DXR in, it's literally worthless for now. AMD will support it when they feel the need to.
There are 6 out right now:
  1. Asetto Corsa Competizione
  2. Battlefield V
  3. Metro: Exodus
  4. Quake II RTX
  5. Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  6. Stay in the Light
And we know of at least a dozen being worked on right now that will have ray tracing. With both next gen consoles getting ray tracing support there will be a lot more in the near future.

I figure they will just drop a Press Release after the AMD presentation, aimed at deflating Navi.
I wonder if they're literally waiting for AMD pricing to firm up their pricing.

I don't follow this stuff super close but it seems like a lot of gpus to release to just drop a press release. But maybe they have done something similar in the past.

If I were NVidia, I probably wouldn't announce pricing until AMD opens pre-orders. Since it would mess with AMDs price/performance positioning right at launch.

Remember during one of the Turing review cycles, AMD contacted a bunch of reviewers and told them you could get a Vega 56 for $280 or something like that. This stuff is war...

Yeah that's true I remember that. Hear I am thinking we're going to have all the info from both sides today.

Yawn,

now if Nvidia had a 2080 Ti Super, fully enabled TU-102, faster DDR 6 and comes with super black leather jacket bonus signed by Jensen Huang for $999 - I might be interest.

AMD needed support yesterday.

I realize that The Faithful will spin RT away for themselves, but lack of support is going to hit them like a brick in the broader consumer market.
Agreed. Hanging back thinking they'll let Nvidia do the heavy lifting of getting RT established can mean falling behind and never catching up. All too often the first-mover ends up writing the rules and becoming the entrenched leader.

Beta video tape machines would disagree with that statement.

I'm talking about information tech, and having to go back to the old VHS/Beta kinda proves the rule. Beta lost because VHS got marketshare. In Nvidia vs AMD, Nvidia already has the marketshare. This is why AMD complacency with RT is so dangerous.

AI. Deep Learning. Visualization. Gaming. Raytracing. One by one, Jen-Hsun is collecting the GPU infinity stones. Lisa Su is the pant-suited hero we need right now. I need her to take RT seriously.

Well something is off.
NVIDIA got two generations(Pascal + Turing) supporting DXR now...AMD is talking"next gen"...I mean looking at AMD's info...GCN should be a compute powerhouse and capable of runnng stuff "asynced" (or in tandem)....but still nothing.

They have to be careful that they don't wait so long that their fanbase will BSOD when they hear RT is not dying but comming to AMD too ;)

They may be (and probably are) testing cards with raytracing in games right now. Just because it isn't released and not on a roadmap doesn't mean it isn't in the works.

IMHO, they didn't need it yesterday, and they still don't need it today. But if they don't have it when a title that can really show it off is released or before nvidia gets a card out for under $500 that can handle current games at a decent level, they'll be in trouble. Edit: And by in trouble, I mean they won't be able to use it as a selling point, other than maybe "ours is better at RT" if they manage that somehow. That'll probably depend on how well RT meshes with their GPU architecture than the RT hardware itself.

Beta came out first and was a superior format, but it was undercut by VHS and was outsold and got exclusive deals and thus VHS won despite being inferior at the time. One cant assume the first tech out will be the winner is my point. Id rather have them wait and work out a system that works well then just jam one out with very few titles that can even make use of it. Right now DXR does not factor in for most that are looking for a card, that will change if more and more games start to support it. I expect big Navi to be the one that supports it.

It's DXR and it's in Vulkan. Are you suggesting AMD invent another API and attempt to get developers to use it?

:ROFLMAO:

They have whatever their version of RT tech coming in the consoles, every game developer is going to look at it very seriously no matter what since it simplifies their job for porting. A developer not designing for a console will obviously be more free to choose whichever they want. Big Navi is likely where RT tech will start for AMD for PC, also Vulkan is far superior to DirectX in almost every benchmark I have ever seen regardless of Nvidia or AMD. Until we see what they do were all trying to guess what will happen without any solid info. But go ahead and cheer lead you and few others are always obvious in what you will say. But being first has never been a surefire way to win in business.

It's close, but it's not direct. And we see how much it helped AMD with their current gen.

It's very close:
https://wccftech.com/path-of-exile-pc-xbox-one-easier-ps4/

But that wouldn't help AMD.

Some people think that using AMD in consoles somehow translates to PC, but really the whole point of API's like Direct X is that they provide a layer of abstraction so it really doesn't matter much what the underlying HW is. Game Devs write to the API, not the specific HW.

API->Drivers->Vendor HW.

If the Xbox Scarlett has Navi with HW RT, Game devs will almost certainly be making DXR API calls to access it, and even if they werent, they will when they port to windows.

Console are nice revenue stream for AMD, but they don't give AMD a real leg up in the PC GPU market. It didn't before, and it won't with Ray Tracing.

*possible* RTX 2080 Ti Super model teased by official EEC registration

New board has model code PG151, current 2080Ti is PG150, current 2080 is PG180, so the assumption is a 2080Ti refresh of some sort.

It feels like Jen-Hsun is just showing off at this point. What happened to letting AMD compete even a little bit? Not going to kill you if you tried.

So if this turns out to be accurate then I'd say the biggest news is not a more powerful 2080Ti, but current 2080Ti chip at 2080 pricepoint. To quote yOuR mOm, "that's huge".

See? This is why completion is great. The rumor that Navi is going to be great has the consumer winning with better performance and lower prices.

Exactly this.

Based on pure power, yes, nVidia has the faster product, but from a business perspective, nVidia blinked.

There is a reason back in the 80s that VHS won the vcr wars despite beta being a better format.

AMD is putting the screws to Intel and nVidia right now, and finally has backing of investors.

Those focused only on the halo products are going to overlook that...

AMD is gaining market share.

Which is why nVidia blinked.

The allegory fits.
