Apex Legends launching monday(titanfall BR)

Hit registration is still fubar in the game for me. I was hopefull after reading the patchnotes, but I still see me do damage in the game and end up with 0 damage done after the match is over.

That and the fact that after hitting lvl 50 you only get a lootbox every 5 lvl's may be what get's me to quit the game.

Apex Legends revenue tumbles by 74% in two months

As a surprise to almost no-one, it seems Apex Legends has been unable to maintain its explosive start, as the game's digital revenue has significantly dropped for the second month in a row...that's a mighty fall from grace, particularly considering SuperData believes Apex Legends had the strongest start for a free-to-play title of all time...

It gave EA some help on the quarterly given the absolute Anthem implosion and that's about it. No surprise here. Even less on Anthem.

What a waste. It should have been TItanfall 3.

To fall from grace you need to be at the top, but anyone following the marketing strategy for this game (paying streamers millions of dollars to play it for awhile) would know that it's time at the top of the ladder wasn't earned naturally. (eg Ninja was paid 1 million to play it for a few weeks)

The perceived 'fall' was predictable, unlike games which more organically earned their following, such as Fortnite, LoL, Dota etc. Eventually the money paid to streamers would stop and they would go back to playing the games they actually wanted to play.

Nothing wrong with hiring streamers, but it shouldn't be the backbone of your marketing strategy and it shouldn't take resources away from game development. It needs to be a complement to the game that people want to play due to fun gameplay, not because they're being paid to do so.

They essentially borrowed the user base of two other games for a few weeks with a surprise "me three" launch. I thought it was interesting what they were able to get out of Source but I didn't feel compelled to keep playing after a couple evening's worth of matches, and I certainly didn't feel like spending any money.

They also happen to be competing against a game with perhaps the most aggressive content delivery schedule of all time, and it didn't take long before those "Apex is dying" videos started popping up talking about no new content.

It had an insanely hyper inflated launch with a huge and very well used marketing budget. They were paying nearly every top streamer. They paid ninja a million dollars and he barely streamed it. It would be interesting to see how much they spent on marketing.

The real question is is it going to stabilize with enough revenue that it won't be killed off by EA. It's still a very popular game, just no where near Fortnite like the marketing hype would have you believe.

That's straight out of the EA playbook. You'll see like $200M to develop the game and like $260M to market the thing.

The client crashes, server "walking through mud" loading delay and the hitbox issues didn't help their cause. Some of which are still going on today. Having only 1 map is not helping their playerbase either.

I still like the game but I fell off of it. It’s my favorite BR game but i just can’t keep playing BR games endlessly, I’ll gladly revisit Apex when they do a new map or some other big change to the game.

There hasn't been any new content and the battlepass was lackluster so I don't know why that's a surprise? They literally have nothing to sell besides overpriced $18 skins in the store. If Season 2 is good, their revenue will jump up again and all the streamers will come running back as usual. In addition, contrary to what Vince Zampella claims, its 100% obvious they shifted their top devs to the Star Wars game right after Apex's launch which hampered patches, content and everything else. Now that the Star Wars game is done, hopefully they focus their resources fully on Apex.

Took a week off and came back to Apex today for a pretty wild game. Didn't win but it was fun especially considering I was distracted talking to a friend:

They may have a better core gameplay mechanic vs Fortnite, but they continue to lag behind in EVERY other way, from skins, to update, to Battle Pass content and more. Either they'll get it together or they'll do the typical EA thing of letting it die on the vine if management isn't actively pushing it at the moment.

I guess you haven't read the Season 2 update posted today. And they've said they will not go at Epic's pace for Fortnite as it burns out devs and overworks them so they plan to stick with seasonal updates which is totally fine.

Got a 23 min compilation I made while cleaning out my Shadowplay folder tonight:

I'm also very disappointed they removed bunnyhopping from the game :( But I'll live.

Isn't today the last day of Season 1? Or just the event?

I am glad they seem to have some real improvements in place for S2, but I hope those include real quality of life upgrades. A new "firing range" option or more comprehensive training, in-depth suggestions for each weapon or item's use, per-character tutorials for their abilities and suggestions for use. GUI for seeing your allies weapons/add-ons not just their shield (optional, turned off for those who don't care etc). There's more but this is just what I can recall at the moment.

it's the last day of the epic hunt event or whatever... Season 2 starts July 2nd. Yes the game needs a proper firing range / test area where all legends and their tactical abilities are available and all weapon attachments too.

This is a bullshit reasoning, there is no need to burn devs out, proper management and employee loading are very reasonably achievable for this game. Respawn says what makes them look good, they aren't doing what they should be doing which is taking responsibility and solving problems.

For instance, let's look at skins, do you have any idea how many thousands of people there are out on steam right now making skins for free for counterstrike? Do you honestly think it would be that hard to just pay them on contract to make skins?

Indeed, but does Season 1 (and its Battle Pass) stop after today as well? Or can you continue to earn up until Season 2's start? I thought S1 would continue right up to the day before S2 pretty much, but if that isn't the case that's unfortunate.

There are a lot of little quality of life changes that would really make things better. It took them a long time to get an "Here are your most recent teammates, invite them to group?" UI option, but it needs to be updated with more info and features , such as being able to see if they're in game and optionally, automatically sending another invite when they're done. Get a group invite from someone but you're all ready in game? Having a setting where you can automatically join next time you exit game would be nice. Right now its hard to tell if someone is in game, if they've declined your invite etc. Oh and regarding grouping, does anyone know if the XP bonus in group stacks per-person, or is it a flat bonus if you have one in your group or two? I commend them however for NOT requiring it ONLY to be people on your friends list, though.

Oh are there any other (attempted) Linux players here?

The game actually seems to run very well with WINE / Proton, but dealing with Origin and Easy Anti Cheat seem to be the main issues....

Anything on the new game modes that are going around like Team Deathmatch? I think the are in development but would be a pitty to see this game go down the shitter like Dirty Bomb did which was my favorite game untill it became unsuported.

I noticed that hit registration is finally a bit better then it used to be, but a lot of the times my score at the end still does not match with what I have seen on screen during the match.

Not that it matters that much since I'm pretty bad at the game, still my number of kills has gone up sizeably with the better hit detection.

The season 2 improvements are good. Better hit reg... ranked mode... generally less bugs. Not a huge fan of the new legend but that’s fine as I love lifeline now. Still a blast to play this game for me..

I'm not sure about that, as I know they're focused on Season 2 at current. S2 brought with it some changes to the map, a new character (who is pretty neat - I actually like defensive-type characters like Caustic and the new Wattson), along with a new system of daily and weekly achievements for Battle Pass leveling. It was also advertised as being WAY less grindy compared to S1, but in my and many other's experience it is massively broken in multiple ways

First, for the high skill (ie hundreds or thousands of kills per character), especially Ranked players, they're mostly upset about some issue with Ranked play and especially cheaters - many people with all kinds of fancy badges showing their prowess post video of getting "lazed" by what they believe are aimbot using hackers, or dealing with toxic teammates who leave or have a temper tantrum if they don't get to pick their "main". There are other issues as well, but I see many posts dedicated to this.

Back on the standard, non Ranked matches, all these problems abound as well, but there's an even bigger one - the broken Battle Pass leveling itself. Whereas in BP Season 1 you could generally level up incentivized to spend as much time as possible contributing/playing the game normally, S2 has none of this. This, in contrast to promises that leveling should be MUCH faster and easier this time, less grindy etc. This comes down to multiple issues. First, the only "XP progression" way to unlock BP is an incredibly grindy counter that requires "XP or Stars" (stars are basically bonus XP awarded by BP Daily / Weekly requirements) that, every time you level up, requires MORE XP stars, until it resets for the week. A casual player may get 1-2 levels a WEEK this way. Which comes to the crux of the issue - S2 progression is based near entirely upon Daily and Weekly objectives. You get 3 Daily randomly drawn, each of which gives 6000 Stars (remember, this means LESS and less as the week goes on due to increasingly high XP requirements). Finish 5 Dailies that week you get +1 BP level, finish 10 you get +1 more. Then there are the weeklies, some of which give 6000 stars, others give a flat BP level. Some of them even have multiple "stages" (ie Get 3 knockdowns in Relay is shown. IF you complete that, its "get 3 in X", then "get 3 in Y" and "Get 3 in Z" all before you get your ONE BP level.

Most of the objectives, both Daily and Weekly are offputting and overly difficult. I wrote a post about it on the Apex forums just so that people might see, and an EA rep even responded to it favorably. I'm completely honest that I'm not a hugely proficient player - I don't usually play these kinds of shooters and I'm midding at best, but the way things are set up the Daily/Weekly objectives are easy for the high skill players with hundreds or thousands of kills (made easier by the presence of more casual players feeding them surely), but are frustrating, grindy, and in some cases nigh impossible for others. There are a handful of reasonable objectives, but the vast majority of them are far too situational (ie any of the "get knockdowns/kills in X location" or "get kills with care package weapons". This is to say nothing for those that require characters you don't own), or just plain too difficult (get X kills/knockdowns with weapon X or legend Y) for most more casual players. A discussion with someone knowledgeable about the situation told me that newer or less skilled players are leaving in droves, which overall hurts the game, because of these decisions. After all, if you can play for 2 hours and maybe not get your Dailies finished, feel you're not progressing on the Battle Pass you've been told is a lot more accessible, its an exercise in frustration to feel you're primarily there to pad others scores and make no progress of your own.

Some will say its just a matter of "git gud", but that misses the point entirely. The "Git gud" demographic has their part of the game - Ranked, as well as badges and other things to show their L33tness. Battle Passes are supposed to be fun for everyone, S2 being less grindy, and giving some variety in an achievable way. Dailies and Weeklies should be bonuses to help you level faster, not requirements, especially with the current objectives - most of which need to be toned down about 75% or thrown out completely. I'm sure those who have been playing CoD, Fortnite and others for years with high win rates will say "Oh all that stuff is easy bro", but one continual sin I've seen the gaming industry make is listening to the higher echelon when balancing and therefore driving away the majority of otherwise interested players. If you want a niche title with only the highest end people playing, long queue times etc.. then fine, but not when you're competing with an hoping to unseat the "big name" Battle Royale leader like Fortnite. Hopefully there will be some changes soon.

I would like to add that I get a lot of DC"s since the last couple patches, usually even b4 I get into the char select screen or b4 dropping so that might be wgy some people seem to "leave" but just DC

Yeah I think I posted on reddit that they should just create a cheaters queue straight up. Let them fight it out with each other. The obvious issue there is freedom of choice though - heh. I think Respawn's method is best given the algorithm can for sure sort out the cheaters..

I want to try out Wattson have a crush on her looking forward to giving the game another try the guys on Youtube just praise the game but looking foward to Dogfighting or whatever they call it.

The game is still buggy as hell, the "new" challenges make that extra clear.

Had a challenge to do 750 damage with some char, play a match, score says I done 140 damage the challenge said I did 168, I do admit that the hits i do register better then at the start, but it still random as hell and their if theiw own scoring and challenge stats don't have the same numbers.

She is very useful, her ultimate shuts down grenades and she was the 3rd most popular legend choice for the xgames.

Sadly we lost a game last night because my squad mate dropped down her ult, got knocked down and I wasn't able to toss grenades at the guys looting him without the grenades getting zapped. Should have won that.

ya that's one of the things about apex, but I actually like it, I like the way all the abilities in the games have a little balance, they aren't just your advantage. There is some balance to them that makes the game feel much better than ultimate watch. Its how almost everything can be used by anyone not just your team.
