So I have a desire for a rack mount, shallow (17" or less), 2U case that can fit standard ATX parts. Did some research and it appeared that this was gonna be a difficult thing to find. So I went about designing my own in AutoCAD. It was a steep learning curve but I got something designed that would work using 20mm t-slot extruded aluminum. Unfortunately, its now come down to trying source everything without it being obnoxiously expensive. Sourcing from 80/20 for the majority of the parts and then ebay or amazon for motherboard tray, HDD trays, and the base plate, I come out to about $200...which is about $50 more expensive than I really wanted to spend. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

(It's crude, but it works)

You don't need any extra corner hardware to fasten extrusions together, just a button head bolt (and a wrench access hole, drilled in order to gain access to the bolt in order to tighten it).

Looking at 80/20s site and their additional services for the extrusions, the center holes are not threaded. Is there a good alternate extrusion source that I can use?

You'd have to thread them yourself, which is easy enough.
