I can't beliebe they'd host that kind of content right after a release, so it's clear to me with this conference on 19th August, we won't see Zen2 till September.

Not sure what's up with that, but I'm upgrading my Haswell this summer regardless , and if AMD are AWOL they'll miss a sale.

You are getting your panties in a bunch over nothing ;)
Hot chips tends to be something unrelated towards the normal announcement press events. It has a different focus next to never has it been used as a vehicle for launching products (from AMD).

from the article you linked the comments already what I described above:
They may introduce them earlier. Sell them earlier. And this may be just Deep Dive as it is tech crowd, not gaming show.

AMD is indicating 3rd quarter. Typically when a company says that, it's later in the quarter, not earlier. So August would be kind of early. :D

yeah i agree with Pieter3dnow on this.. Hotchips is more indepth and science related for professional/industry users, not the average consumer.. go on their site and check out their past conferences and you'll realize this has nothing to do with when Zen 2 is releasing, lol. if they tried to talk about any of the stuff they talk about at Hotchips at CES or Computex people would pass out in their chairs from boredom.

Zen 2 will be announced in the next 10 or so days.

Release will more than likely be within the coming weeks. July more than likely. June remotely possible.

They are going to release when supply chains are ready to carry the demand and not a moment before.

Agreed, if these chips are even close to the rumors they are going to sell like hotcakes! I personally plan to buy 2 at launch. Hopefully we don't see the same board supply issues that plagued the original Ryzen launch.

The sooner the better. I'm growing members of the PC Master Race, and one turns 10 on June 20th, the other turns 8 on August 5th. I really really want to give away my Ryzen 5 2600 on the 20th, but I don't think it's going to happen. I get the feeling they're going to be disappointed on their birthdays and have a renewed interest in Santa.

Right now they're both stuck on X58 systems w/ RX580's, and dad wants to go for broke and upgrade, because why not! (without wasting value$ on an i7)

If they've got hot cakes to sell, then they'll sell like hotcakes! :p The less the merrier infact! So why wait?

It feels like they're deliberately waiting, most likely to finish off current inventory, and will suddenly from top to bottom redo all CPUs segments with 7nm variants, all at once.

I find it hard to believe they don't have any sellable silicon right now. They're obviously biding their time... :cautious:

Hot chips is a conference where designs are discussed in-detail. Not just release-date review spec sheets and benchmarks, the actual inner-workings of the Zen 2 and Navi architectures.

They tend to be well-after the retail release date, so the products have time to be in the channel before your competitors know how it works. But since chip development is a complex science, it's conferences like these that keep the performance moving continuously forwards.

That is also the sort of information needed for compiler writers and driver writers to properly support the chip.

I am interested in the X570 motherboards and when released. Rather move whole old board/CPU to another case and put in a new board/CPU at the same time for Zen 2. When will all the pieces fall together? Bugs worked out? Availability and price hikes due to shortages? This maybe a very long summer.

There are a few things that I like about Zen 2 one of them is larger caches but the whole thing is not a must have upgrade for me. I am going to wait and see what exactly are the benefits then there is the new setup when you buy 12+ cores you getting some higher frequency but the offset also has 2 different physical chiplets and latencies attached to them ....

I personally want Intel to get punched in the throat more. However, the likelyhood of AMD holding the lead for a long time is slim. But they haven't had this level of for real competition in a very long time. It's good to see.

Think about this; Since the inception of 1st gen Core i3/5/7 chips in 2008, up to the 8th gen in 2017, the flagship Intel SKUs remained at 4 cores. They had little to no competition until Zen in 2017 when they finally notched up to 6 cores for 7th gen and suddenly 8 cores for 9th gen flagship parts. 9 years of near stagnation usually spells death for a company in the tech industry.

Imagine where we'd be if not for AMD lighting a fire under Intel's ass. It's crazy to think that the world's processing power lagged for nearly a decade for lack of competition (in the x86 space anyway). And you can bet foreign competitors weren't resting in the mean time, they've been catching up. It might be obvious to some, and crazy to even think for others, but I bet we see the decline of Intel over the next decade.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it...

No Intel sat for sure. They got complacent and now Microsoft is developing more and more support for ARM. I doubt ARM will surpass Intel in performance, but had Intel not lagged for so long Microsoft would have taken ARM less seriously IMO. AMD is essentially saving Intel from itself.

Also the whole question is how well will the older boards/chipsets use them, what features if any will be lacking and so on. I see a mass of confusion coming up unless communication is clear on old chipsets/new etc. Ryzen, ASUS CH6 was a painfully, exciting and fun experience. Ryzen 2 looks to be a major jump and I hope some of the pain of the Ryzen launch is not repeated. Good lord I will miss Kyle/Dan and others breakdown over time dealing with Ryzen 2. Just won't be the same going elsewhere to get real information.

AMD agenda : Navi and Zen 2 paper launch on May 27, sales on July 7, chat with Lisa Su in August.

You tried selling stuff on a Sunday :)
If you run windows you can click the date/time and look at the calendar :) .

Newegg is open on Sunday...

Everything is open Sunday in my country, Brick and Mortar computer stores included.

The 7/7 things was kicked around for a while before the Sapphire interview, and unfortunately since the original interview was in Chinese and then taken down, we can't even check if it really said anything about 7/7, and in what context.

Thanks.

Ok, so like, is this a literal case of Chinese whispers? :p:smuggrin:
