Hey Everyone,

We’re excited to announce an event of epic, dare we say, mega proportions launching today: the Epic Mega Sale, which runs in the Epic Games store from May 16 to June 13.

During the Epic Mega Sale, developers and publishers are discounting a ton of great games up to 75% off. Also, for every game purchase $14.99 and above, Epic Games provides an additional $10 off to you at no cost to the publisher or developer.

Go to the Epic Games store home page to check out all of our partners’ sales. For more information, check out the FAQ.

Oh, and one more thing...

Since launch, we’ve released a free game every two weeks in the Epic Games store. The reception has been great - over 25 million free games have been installed so far! We’re thrilled to share that during this sale period, we're offering you a free game every week – starting with Stories Untold, an experimental adventure game by No Code. Be sure to check back each week for new free game offers.

Now go check out the sales!

Not a huge selection of games, but there are some really good deals on some excellent games.

In the Epic store?

Hard pass. Not even if they were all free.

I don't need or want any more clients installed on my system than I already have.

I recently bought Far Cry 3 on Steam. On launch I found it had installed Uplay and wouldn't let me launch the game without creating an account.

I immediately uninstalled it and requested a refund from Steam.

NO MORE CLIENTS. NONE.

We already have so many clients that at this point adding one more is trivial. Initially I resented EGS but the more I thought about how lazy Valve has been, the more I'm glad EGS is sticking it to them.

This thread is about the game sales. Not your personal podium.

OP has not listed the sales. I’m pretty disappointed in this thread so far.

every single game is on sale, too many to list (probably not too many to list.. I'm just too lazy)

//edit here is a snip .

Maybe if fortnite were on sale for a little lower in price I might bite.

The world is my podium.

Seriously. This is the news. This forum is for us to discuss our opinions on the news. This is my opinion on the news.

It would be like seeing an advertisement for a sale at Target, then running into the store and shouting at everyone checking out the deals that you already gave Walmart your credit card info and WILL NEVER BUY FROM ANOTHER STORE AGAIN!!!111

We all understand opinions but keep it slightly relevant.

Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human look interesting though. $10 and $20 respectively. But I'd rather not pre-order. And I don't see a release date for them anyways.

If you absolutely cannot wait for Metro Exodus to come to Steam, it is $25.

$10 off Borderlands 3 is something. Too bad that is way more than I'd pay for games these days.

Epic fail. had they began with this move, instead of the arbitrary exclusivity deals, they'd have won almost everyone over instantly. Now it is too late, and will only be viewed as them throwing around money.

You can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking that created them in the first place.

Last I checked this was the news. And since when are you not allowed to express an opinion about a news item?

i actually got somewhat interested, i thought the $10 off was in addition to the sale prices.. but it is already factored into the price shown. some of these games i never heard of before. i'll wait for a sale on steam heh

This is precisely the issue. Its like kidnapping a girl, taking her to an expensive dinner and then not understanding why she still hates your fucking guts.

By first hijacking all the games that they're now putting on this mickey mouse "sale", Epic squandered their chance to be a goodguy game store and get everyone on their side organically by competing on price. Instead they chose to be polarizing and piss off a critical mass of gamers that might have otherwise given them a chance. It is unfortunate they had so little confidence in their store to begin with that they find themselves in this mess now.
Sweeney is hoping it all blows over. Its not going to blow over.

Good to see a sale. Hopefully they will gain more customers. Too bad so many games are Steam exclusive. (yeah, I stated the obvious)

If you only care about price than EGS is a good option. Right now it's a bare bones storefront and that might be good enough for some gamers.

Other than Valve's own games, what games on Steam are exclusives? If there is it must be a tiny list.

There are other stores besides Steam?

Nearly every game on Steam is exclusively sold on Steam, or you can buy a steam key through another site, or directly from the developer. There are very few games you can actually buy and download on multiple stores.

A month long sale? Games must be selling poorly thanks to their exclusivity BS.

I’m sure some are and some aren’t. Looking at the dates it looks like they’re trying to get people to go on a game buying spree before Valve does their summer sale. I’d imagine the reason it’s so long is to not only try to hook more people with the weekly game give away thing but also to try and entice more people.

Pity they didn’t roll out things like wishlists or a fucking shopping cart before doing this sale though. Not sure why exactly it is taking them so long to implement either of those.

Eh, this is a more truthful analogy:

You wanted to take said girl out, but she decided to go with someone else who offered to take her to a more expensive restaurant and now you're pissed.

If they didn't have good exclusives they wouldn't have anything worth putting on sale because no one would want to use it. See Xbox One market share vs Xbox 360 to see how lack of good exclusives worked out for Microsoft this round.

Even at this time, there are only 2-3 games I'm interested in and none of those appear to even have a firm release date.

Other than Valve's own games, what games on Steam are exclusives? If there is it must be a tiny list.

There is a notable number but yes, most games are tied to Steam these days and have been for a while. If you're talking about AAA games aside from Ubisoft, EA and Blizzard everything is essentially Steam only aside from a few exceptions. Personally I don't see that as a bad thing.

I’m sure some are and some aren’t.

Sweeney assumed they'd see a 50-60% decrease in sales. Apparently, it is doing much better than they had thought. For Metro Exodus the sales jump from Last Light is around 250% on PC where as it is only 150% on console.

Of course. I'm not sure why anyone is shocked. EA did the same thing in the early days of Origin. Anyone who has heard of EGS would have assumed they'd run massive sales and probably before Steams annual ones to gain attention.

Pity they didn’t roll out things like wishlists or a fucking shopping cart before doing this sale though. Not sure why exactly it is taking them so long to implement either of those.

I can't even find an estimated release date for the Quantic Dream games. Maybe the developers have no idea when they will be released... but its damn annoying. They need to make their product pages have a bit more info and a side bar with the important info like Steam.

I'm only interested in those games really but I'd rather see how the port is. Plus, interactive story games are kind of hit or miss with me.

This has already been debunked multiple times over. They compared only "launch week" sales of Last Light vs Exodus, not total sales. And then patted themselves on the back for something they had fuckall to do with since they hijacked the game at the last minute.

Obviously Exodus would have had more launch week sales, after it was hyped and advertised for a year and a half on Steam. Last Light was far more obscure a title when it launched, and the bulk of its sales came later after the game developed a cult following, had Redux re-releases and a two-game bundle frequently discounted on Steam.

See this is easy for me, if a developer signs an exclusive contract with either Epic or Steam and they are unhappy with their earnings they can just wait out the contract and put it up on the other and not sign another one with them going forward. The standard contract for the exclusive content is only 1 year, so if these titles don't sell to the expected or desired levels they have an obvious scapegoat and Epic Game Store will fail as a result. If they are happy with the result they will resign and Valve will be forced to update their practices accordingly or risk falling by the wayside. I for one am so backlogged that I can easily pass up playing a game or 10 at launch and waiting a year or 3 to get around to it, between Steam and Origin already I have a pretty solid backlog that will take me a year or more to get through so no rush for an answer over here. This is something the market will sort out pretty fast.

Yup. I was referring to trustworthy game key stores. You get lower prices, and only on a rare occasion a key doesn't work. I never had a problem getting a new key or refund.

Obviously, and that is when most of the sales are made and the margins are highest. You think its sensible to compare launch week sales vs ~5 years of sales for LL? Because no one in any industry does that.

Steam does little for advertisements. I didn't find out about the game on Steam and I don't use Steam for any game news. Most games are announced and advertised well before they get a Steam page. Also keep in mind the growth of Exodus was much better on PC compared to console. I can't explain why that is. Maybe LL sold relatively poorly on PC for whatever reason. It wouldn't amaze me if all the bad press the game got prior to release ended up giving them a lot of last minute exposure.

I was originally against EGS. I'm over it now. Life's too short to miss out on some good games at decent prices. My loyalty to Steam originated from it having so many things I liked. That was 5+ years ago. Currently I go to Steam, EA, GOG, and now EGS, plus a couple of indie sites. I admit I'm losing track of all the places to get games legally now. The real choice for me is quality over quantity at a reasonable price and EGS is merely another avenue for that. Ultimately I see it as a blessing just to have choices.

OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!!!!!

:p seriously though I agree in general but if there is a strong moral reason not to do something then it's great to have a community to help make that clear so we can make better decisions.

I just cant man, its a morality thing. I despise Epic games for A. No delivering on Unreal Tournament and B. For unleashing the hellspawn known as Fortnite. A generation of PC games & gamers have been ruined by it, no longer are people out to make a quality title , rather a quick buck that mirrors that abomination, no artistry or talent required.

This isn't news and the OP reads like a fucking advertisement(probably because it is).

This belongs in the Hot Deals section if anywhere.

What complete and utter bullshit. You know who really started the microtransaction craze and all that shit? Valve. Remember hats in TF2? Yeah, that's what showed the industry that shit can be profitable as hell. Then Valve went the loot box route with CS: Go and DOTA2 and the industry followed.

Also, if you think a game like Fortnite requires "no talent" you need to pull you head out of your ass. No talent is the asset flip garbage seen on Steam and some of the shovelware crap that shows up on consoles.

Yup. DOTA 2 is utter cancer for the industry and a shitty game to boot. Fortnite is just the current trend the kids are into these days. Before that it was TF2, then DOTA 2 and CS GO. Free to play games and micro transactions are killing games and Valve had no problem taking a dump on PC gamers for years. But I can't point fingers at Valve because all the major (and even many small) developers are doing it these days... I point to the dumbass gamers who made games like DOTA 2/Fortnite profitable.
