Rage 2

Game spot is liberal they used to be good IGN basiallly the only people I trust.

Honestly? I take them all to varying degrees grain of salt. I like to look for points of agreement on all fronts and that starts giving the ballpark to work from. These days it's hard to go wrong with youtube and twitch footage. No one should ever make a bad gaming (or other product) purchase again in theory than

Typical spread. This game wasn't going to be Shakespeare. It wasn't going to be first person Witcher 3 or (insert hallowed game title here.)

I think people that buy this know what they want and they will get it. Lots of fun fragging and craziness. Hopefully not the first person Just Cause 4 letdown or the refunds will fly.

^^ I skimmed through that to avoid spoilers but I see something that's going to deliver what I realistically (key word) want and expect from it.

Reminder that mainstream journos are salty about Bethesda not giving them free shit anymore.

Also, if you're going to point to an aggregator at least use the one whose focus is on the games. Their averaging and weighting method is also transparent, unlike Metacritic.

Appears the game will be playable today!

Interesting, I thought this was going to be a 8/10 game.

But then again, Days Gone got merked by reviewers and I'm enjoying the hell out of that.

So not too worried...

Some outlets gave it 8/10. I really don't care either. ;)

I'll be watching the faster than normal Steam timer for the refund window but I bet I won't be refunding it.

A wide spread of scores isn't surprising here. It was always going to be one of those games where it depends on how much you get into the style and how effectively you think it pulls that style off.

There's a horrible lack of fast paced shooters that aren't just rehashes of CoD. Rage looks like it'll scratch that itch till Doom Eternal comes out.

Seems better than I expected. I'm honestly shocked they even made this, though. Sometimes I wonder how many sales are lost when good sequels are made for lackluster/underperforming titles.

reviews are pretty much exactly what I thought they would be- a 7.5- 8.0 game...definitely not worth $60...

I watched the 10 minute or whatever gameplay teaser and I have to say that it left me deflated.
I know they gave the demo-er OP weapons in order to show them off, that isn't what bothers me. It's that a big portion of the spirit of RAGE is missing.

RAGE was definitely not a 9/10 or 10/10 game, but it had certain elements that made the game unique and I would have hoped that the sequel would have kept those and developed off of them.
Namely the combat. The combat in RAGE was probably one of the most interesting unique things about it. The enemies would hop over things, crawl on walls and ceiling. Traverse railings. Be otherwise hard to hit. And fast. Although a lot of it was scripted, it made it challenging (or at least created the perception of challenge) and interesting and (dare I say the forbidden word) fun. The weapons were designed around this. Allowing for multiple combinations to suit the situation and the player. RAGE then was all about combat and player choice in how to "solve" combat.
The feel of the game has also changed a lot. From a very bleak apocalypse to a very "reveling" in the apocalypse sort of feel. And that is echoed in all the promo materials with mohawks and pink hair and otherwise being "extreme".

Where I wanted the game to go was having meaningful characters (all of the original RAGE's characters felt inconsequential despite their very cool character designs). Hubs that had real stakes. Game progression that felt like it had weight and meaning. And perhaps less linear levels. Although the "linearness" allowed the game to feel very "tight". Which is more a design choice than objectively a fault. I think what I mean is that the game would feel better if at least it was like Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past. Where you have multiple objectives and you solve them in any order so at least there is more of the illusion of choice rather than being so locked in to a straight path towards the end.

I don't know if this will be a worthy successor or if it's really a successor at all. It looks more like Serious Sam meets the Apocalypse rather than a new RAGE game. And I guess that's okay. But as this game seeks to attract a new player base, I imagine the folks like me who actually liked the original (despite its many faults) will feel alienated.

I prefer some consistency if I am going to hand over $60 at release. Otherwise I am just as happy to wait a couple of months for it to hit the bargain bin. The combat is interesting enough that I might buy it at about the $25 mark rather than my usual $10 limit.

about 10 minutes in. Kinda meh so far. Everything on ultra and graphics look just ok...... Remeber watching trailers few months ago thinking how epic this game looked. oh well....back to game. I'll post how it goes after an hour

I don't know that a 7.5-8 isn't worth $60, but this seems to be more of a 6-7 game on average.

Couldn’t get into the first one so probably won’t be able to get into this either. Maybe when it’s on sale, which if it flops, would likely be pretty soon anyway.

the review score itself is not the reason why I don't think it's worth $60...the reviews detailing the game are what determined that...open world and story doesn't sound all that great...combat seems like the best part...but after playing a game like Sekiro which I did pay full price this doesn't seem on the same level...

Not sure why you are comparing an action game to a FPS but of course it’s not on the same level. It’s designed to be a power trip not a hyper challenging thought-based combat game. Can’t fault the “it’s not worth $60” thought, I happen to agree, but it’s a weird comparison to make.

Going to wait this one out I think. I was also disappointed to see that most versions on 3rd party keysellers require the Bethesda launcher! While I'm glad there is a Steam version, its frustrating when it gets hardly any exposure via key sales/discounts. Worse, it is the kind of self fulfilling prophecy that publishers seem to design these days where they can say "gee, we didn't get enough sales via or users on the Steam version so we won't support Steam any more" despite the cause being their own actions!

I also see reviews discussing the presence of day 1 skins and other DLC for sale above and beyond what is present even in the Deluxe version of the game . Is there some way to acquire all of these items simply via play (ie Assassins' Creed Origins and Odyssey had weekly quests and player-earned currency that could buy these items) at a reasonable rate? If not, that disappointing indeed.

I'm not comparing the genre of games...I'm comparing the $60 value of one game to the other...

Just buy it this is coming from someone who hasn't played it just yet.

at least watching the play through it just feels like a borderlands clone without the cartoon style graphics. i never played the first one so i don't know how it compares to that. hell even some of the sound effects sound exactly like the ones in borderlands.

Rage 2 PC review: brainless blasting

Despite adrenaline-pumping combat, id and Avalanche’s shooter sequel struggles to shine in a soulless world...

Sadly, the staid open world proves an unworthy frame for the joyous chaos of Rage 2’s combat...the wasteland is of a size we’ve come to expect from today’s crop of open-world games, with the typical checklist of uninspiring busywork to tick off...outside of main missions most amount to ‘go here and kill the thing’...Unfortunately, the story and writing is unsalvageable...Rage 2’s vehicles feel heavy and unresponsive, which makes journeying between missions a chore and makes the size of the map hard to justify...Avalanche Studios is known for its open worlds, but this won’t be one of its most celebrated...

I'll stick with Doom Eternal for my mindless blasting of mutants game of 2019...Dying Light 2 is another game I'm really looking forward to in 2019...

I'm surprised they didn't go with id Tech engine for this...that's probably why it doesn't look as good as people were expecting...

It looks more like Mad Max to me. Borderlands is a looter shooter, Rage is just an open world FPS.

Perhaps a new version of IDTech wasn't ready at the time or Avalanche wanted to go with their own engine since they were acting as lead developer on this.
