AMD showcasing 12 and 16 core parts

Man I'm getting that 12 core for $329 @ 5ghz boost.

It does sound like the best option without getting a new motherboard :).
But what would be the best time to buy those 12 cores. Those are all a pair of 6 core chiplets ? Or would there be 8+4 as well ?

Wondering if there would be an advantage waiting with purchasing those 12 core parts to get better binned versions .....

Maybe, I mean i know they say 5ghz on boost, but is that 1 core? Or on all 12 cores. I do plan to upgrade to Ryzen 3000, but I would wait for reviews....I would say wait for Kyle's review like I always do but /cry no more.

I am hoping my motherboard will work with it properly.

This is nothing but the same rumors from last year.

Except at this point the rumor hasn't changed much and we're about 3 weeks from Computex.

There's a big difference between a random guy on a website saying something 5 months ago and actual AMD showing actual chips to actual OEMs...

The Radeon VII is priced the way it is because of the BOM.

Look at Threadripper then look at the cooling it needs and how much of a difference the whole heat spreader surface takes vs water cooling on just part of the heat spreader surface. It will take some very top binned chip and nothing short of a miracle cooling solution on AM4 to get all cores on 5ghz (less surface to cool). Even if the TDP is lower then on Threadripper it still may not be that easy

If AMD is as good on this process as they were on Zen+ (14+nm) then you might question how much more are you going to get by overclocking vs default AMD motherboard/cpu boosting.

I didn't mean OC, I have found that pointless with Ryzen, I meant stock/boost clocks. We shall see how things play out. I would be fine with 4.5+, hopefully its in that area.

Once I'm ready to ditch my current rig in sig, I'm considering the 12c/24t Ryzen or Threadripper.

Ok, yeah I hear that those aren't cheap to produce. Seems like they just need to ditch the whole HBM thing. Definitely isn't giving them some huge gain over nvidia. Not sure how tied into the architecture it is.

I'd like to think that they could have produced a $499 variant with only 8GB of HBM2 memory, but they didn't. Ideally, the Radeon VII would have been closer to $599 and an 8GB version at $499.
 
Where is the 105W 8 core? I would expect that to have the fastest clocks. Maybe that will come out at the end of the year, after Intel releases something?

I'm not waiting on Kyle's review. I'll review it for my self. Microcenter return policy is grade A++++

These are not rumors honestly at this point. AMD has been purposefully leaking info to these OEMs in order to start the marketing awareness. They all play this game. I'm almost certain based on AMDs record of how they do stuff that these chip frequencies are legit. 5ghz 12 core. It's probably single or dual core at that speed and 4.2 to 4.4 all core using PBO2.

My threadripper will hit 4.2 all core on it's own and 4.4 single.

The 12 and 16-core rumors are coming from basically three different people at this point. There's AdoredTV who has been talking about this stuff for a long time, APISAK who found the 16-core CPU show up in a benchmark result and then RedGamingTech who is the source of the 12-core 5GHz rumor. The only one of those sources I really trust is APISAK but these rumors are definitely coming from multiple different sources at this point.

Since that was not possible on the original Instinct product and the only reason why they settled on a professional only die shrink for that market a 8 gb version was never an option. If you checked rumoured Navi release line up you should understand that Radeon VII (die shrink of Instinct 25) was never an option to be released outside of the professional market. The poor cooling solution the problem with launch drivers echo this ....

I'm aware of the issues. It's more wishful thinking on my part. Obviously it doesn't make sense to re-engineer a niche product as you have a professional product you can tweak already designed and in the product stream.
