Any way to "offline install" from Epic Store on metered connection?

I'm about to buy an RTX card and I'd like to use the game code to get a (legit, updated) copy of Metro Exodus (as opposed to the special, unpatched copy available at the usual places)

Problem is I don't have proper internet at home, only my phone hotspot (very very old building in the inner city). I know that the Epic store has an "offline mode" now to play previously-downloaded games without a connection but I have the complete opposite problem; I would have no problem connecting with my hotspot to authenticate and download patches, but cannot download a 50GB+ game to begin with.

Is there any way around this? Would it be possible to download the game files on my laptop somewhere with Real Internet, transfer the files to the desktop, and connect the Epic store on my metered connection to authenticate? I seem to remember that this was possible on Steam back when but that's obviously a different kettle of fish.

I'd love to avoid lugging my whole workstation over to a friend's house if possible... help, [H]?
 
I just tried to test this. I downloaded a game and installed it. copied it to my desktop and uninstalled. then I put the files back in place and tried to reinstall but it complains the directory isn't empty and wont install. there is no option to verify files or anything. I think youre SOL. yes, this does work with steam.

well dang. Thanks bunches for taking the time to test this! I suspect there's a Really Convoluted way to make this work but it seems easier to just take my box for a ride on the bus to a friend's place
 
what about a laptop that runs off the same harddrive you install/authenticate on... saving some hassle with the teardown/travels?

I don't know if it works, just an idea... I'd actually like to know, I'm in a similar situation
