Latest Firefox is disabling all extentions

This is really embarrassing and pathetic. They have known ever since the cert was made when it would expire.

Me too, into Chrome until this is fixed. I couldn't browse anymore with ad blocking disabled, ever and forever. Fonts in Chrome are awful and that's what'd been stopping me from using it. But better than without ad (content) blocking.
I'm trying to accept this situation easily as I know bugs and problems happen to everyone and everywhere (being a dev myself). The biggest problem was when they decided to disable the option to turn off addon signing, IMO. It was one of the biggest mistakes they've done ever. Also making it hard to only use manual updating whenever the user wants. Now I update way less frequently because of this.

temp fix is being rolled out now

12:50 p.m. UTC / 03:50 a.m. PDT: We rolled-out a fix for release, beta and nightly users on Desktop. The fix will be automatically applied in the background within the next few hours, you don’t need to take active steps.

In order to be able to provide this fix on short notice, we are using the Studies system. You can check if you have studies enabled by going to Firefox Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Allow Firefox to install and run studies.

You can disable studies again after your add-ons have been re-enabled.

We are working on a general fix that doesn’t need to rely on this and will keep you updated.

My extensions are all back now

* funny thing is I never turn on application reporting and my FF settings where enabled to send data back to FF. Turned off now.

Happened on my Linux box yesterday. Was just browsing when Firefox let me know some extensions weren't working. Very upsetting. I thought it was an issue on my box, Good to know it's a FF thing.

The good news is that they pushed out a patch to fix the problem this morning and it'll take a couple hours to propagate through the system but hopefully by the end of the day it'll be working again.

What happened is that Firefox's addons server generates a security certificate on the fly when you download an add-on. Looks like somebody got careless and forgot to renew their Master certificate and expired on May 4th.

So after May 4th if your Firefox did an update, it failed because the security cert was invalid.

Yeah, my extensions are back. Frustrating stuff though. You get used to the protections in place and then the next moment, Bam! Herpes....

Later versions of Firefox and certificates is infuriating. No way to add exceptions and now this?

I never knew how many pre roll and during playback youtube adds to a video.. WOW. My biggest issue was my password manager plugin.

I was having issues with popups and such when on Chaturbate......

Glad it's fixed now, keeps the fluids off my mouse

FireFox showing they are a better fit for Windows 10 browser than chromium ?

Still waiting for them to fix it. I'm currently using Edge to browse with LastPass and Ublock Origin. Miss my others that I use on FF.

Not really a "latest firefox" thing. Very much a pain. As I posted elsewhere, at most companies somebody's head would roll.... but have a feeling they just gave the manager a free beer instead.

It's all free and "at your own risk" lol. They could stop any development tomorrow, they could make it all pink today and all you can di is drink a cup of cold water an move along. The rogue truth.

still not working for me. my adblock plus is broken. I forget the exact msg it gave me. I removed it in hopes of reinstalling. but I get this message on the addons website "Download failed. Please check your connection." happens with the 3 other ad blockers I've tried to install. this is kinda pathetic

All workarounds til now are just workarounds and are dangerous as Mozilla have said themselves. I'll wait for a general update (66.0.4 I presume). But as someone said, I might not wait for long before I just forget to check if Mozilla fixed it and I would just stay with Chrome. This is ridiculous and unacceptable. This may be the last straw for me as I was a big FF fan. It still works better for me, lighter and more robust and performant for me.

My extensions are working again after setting xpinstall.signatures.required to true and also enabling the Allow Firefox to install and run studies under Privacy. Took me about 30 seconds to get everything back.

Not working for me. Add-ons stopped working last night. My God, YouTube is Hell without an ad blocker. I'm not using the latest version because of newer versions not working with so many add-ons, so am I screwed? Is it time to find a new browser?

I had the same issue. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled and all is working fine again.

firefox claimed on twitter they were rolling out a fix yesterday. guess they dont want to call the good programmers in on a weekend lol

help>about firefox. downloaded a 6mb update. working well now. thoughts on ublock origin vs adblock plus?

Lol that's not even a comparison.

Ublock *origin* is so good that shit at companies make knockoffs like "ublock"

In hard mode or whatever the one below most advanced it's really good. Stock config is probably even better when simplicity is factored in.

Dont AB and AB+ sell their service to businesses as a whitelist?

I'm glad Waterfox mirrored and migrated away from Mozilla's add-on database far before this event, and does not enforce add-on signing anyway.

+1 for uBlock Origin

also the NPAPI version of NoScript

It's so great to have real options: Waterfox and Pale Moon. Both were not affected and allow classic add-ons.

Yeah, I confirm, 66.0.4 is out for me and it fixed it :D . So glad. I wouldn't mind Chrome so much (I've already set it up almost like FF) if it wasn't for the awful fonts.

As to uBlock Origin vs Adblock.... all the way uBO on all machines, this is the most critical piece of add-on software I'm using on all used browsers and of all time online!

I've turned off auto updates for FF, and have it to notify me instead. The same method for windows 7 updates.

As for addons, yes Ublock Origin is a must have addon. I also use LastPass, Privacy Badger, HTTPS everywhere, and AdGuard Adblocker. Finally when I need to look at FB, I use the FB container.

uninstalled/reinstalled and i'm still getting the below when trying too install ublock origins.

"Download failed. Please check your connection"

thoughts on how to rectify?

Was the installed version 66.0.4?

My add-ons are not displaying in the toolbar even on that version, but FF says the extensions are enabled.
May still be some kinks they are working out.

This was what got my extensions going again. They quit on my Friday eve and Sat morning I kicked on the studies and within the hour all extensions I had were humming along nicely again. Unchecked studies and it’s been good ever since.

Hoping a more permanent correction is coming down the line. I’d not like to see this happen again

I switched to Chrome several weeks ago for numerous issues I was having with FF. The most annoying that it wouldn't even open properly quite often. I wasn't happy with it anyway, ever since they moved to the Quantum series.

As for certificates, that is no surprise. I work for a large corporation, and it seems like every other month an "emergency change" is required to update a server(s) so that a mission critical service won't go offline. It's been that way most everywhere that I've worked in my career (IT field). For as intelligent as many of the people are in the IT field, common sense is often lacking.

Very preventable issue yet Mozilla said it wouldn't ever be a concern. *eye roll*
