I'm confused, that's a perfect setup for cockpit view, is that an unsupported wheel or something?

I play cockpit view.. esp with the F1 GT and a couple others with centered steering columns. The steering wheel support sucks in FH4 with the G29.. tried tweaking and tweaking.. gave up. Works fine in other games though.

He was playing Forza with a Logitech wheel while wearing tons of gold chains, rings, and bracelets. Every time that he shifted the car, you could hear all of his gold clanging together. It literally sounded like cymbals from a drum set. Then take into account that he is from Norway and I couldn't understand a word he was saying; it was freaking hilarious. I had Google translate his chat and everyone was telling him to drink more alcohol and drive faster.

He has his VODs set to subscriber only so I can't link it. :) Oh and he had his bare chest and stomach out.

So I recently got a Logitech wheel and I've been trying to find a game that felt "right" to me. I have Project Cars and picked up Assetto Corsa for cheap, and those feel a bit too difficult in terms of the simulation (I'm sure it's realistic), whereas I just want a balance between realism and fun. Also, track racing is not really my thing, I prefer "road" locations. I tried NFS: Payback and that just feels terrible - too arcady, the AI is bullshit, etc.

I tried the Forza Horizon 4 demo and really liked it. I think it might be what I'm looking for. Looking at purchasing, but there are several editions and I'm not sure if it's worth ~$100 for the Ultimate edition. Does anyone here have experience with that or did most of you guys buy the Standard edition?

I guess I could get the trial of GamePass, play the Standard edition for awhile, and then buy the Ultimate edition with the discount if I decide I like it enough.

I bought the Ultimate Edition, which comes with the Car Pass, Expansion Pass and VIP. The Car Pass is worth it in my opinion. Expansion Pass and VIP is questionable. The former there is only one out of two promised expansions released so far and it's nothing to write home about. VIP gives you double credit rewards for races, which in my opinion is needed with the low amount of credits you get, but it depends on how much your time is worth to you. I'll add that there is surprisingly very little to do in the game, though, so you may get bored if you need to grind credits at any point. I finished the original game to completion after about 20 hours.

All that said, I would recommend the Deluxe Edition to just get the Car Pass included.

Yeah, that's what I would do. It's definitely worth a buy IMO. It's the best open world racing game by a long shot.

the problem is you eventually wind up with too much money.. i already own all the houses and something like 400 cars yet i still have 40m credits.. but i haven't played since the second week of the first expansion since i finished it. i have zero hope in the second expansion being worth anything though and regret buying the ultimate edition.. mistakes were made and learned from though.

Any idea how many hours you played though? I mean if you had like 100+ hours in by the time the expansion dropped (and it sounds like it, based on how much money you had) I'd say you got your money's worth.

fwiw.. I got bored of achievements and started role playing with friends. Try hitting up the long freeway on the right side of map and practice pit maneuvers on buses/snowplows/box trucks as people race you. (I mainly use the Crown Vic, Terradyne Gurka, or Hummer H1 with police liverys) My other buddies bait them into a race since most use supercars. Also creating traffic jams in the tunnels are hilariously funny when convoys come through @ 200mph + It turns into a gigantic destruction derby fest.

Also if you haven't played in a while T10 borked up the perks on cars and they all got reset. They refunded all my 2100+ perk points to reapply. Good thing I kept all my cark perk cars and money/wheelspin perk cars.

probably 50 or 60 hours of actual playing... then maybe 20-30 hours of me just mindlessly grinding credits so i could just buy everything to get it over with. i finished Fortune island in about 6 hours of play time. things just got super repetitive, once i figured out how the AI worked running it on unbeatable was boring and easy. i still recommend the game though, just don't pay full price for it.

if the PVP races were actually worth a damn i think it would of added a ton more value to the game but never lived up to what it should of been.

The worst part was grinding out the points for car masteries. The whole 50 car masteries needed for Forza Rewards was stupid.

ive literally never done any of the car masteries. Ive not 100% completed the game but after treasure island came out i beat it and it kinda just got old. Hoping like previous horizons that the second expansion is solid. Usually the first expansions are pretty meh. I have went back to FM7 as a primary though.

I haven't played too much yet, but I'm enjoying it so far. Not super good though, I have to use the Rewind function a decent amount (using the default difficulty settings). It seems like if you lose traction there's almost no chance of recovering, trying to counter correct just causes the car to swing wildly in the other direction. Probably just a lack of skill, but I'm not sure where to go for tips.

One thing that annoys me a bit is how the wheel only turns like 180 degrees when the physical wheel will do 900 or so, and it doesn't appear there's a way to tune that in the game itself. It seems like some of these cars have practically no turning radius, from a complete stop trying to turn around you have to make a 3-point-turn half the time, which seems a bit silly.

lol doing proper turns.. just e-brake turn that shit yo.. :p just remember it's an arcade game and not a sim and it makes things a lot easier to figure out.

I mean...yes, but also no. The physics are definitely way different than something like Need For Speed. I still can't seem to pull off an E-brake drift, I tap the E-brake and the car just kinda starts sliding out of control regardless of how much I counter-correct. Whereas in something like NFS it's a piece of cake.

I adjusted my wheel sensitivity in-game and I think that helped a bit - turns out it actually will read all 900 degrees of the wheel rotation, but the animations and actual visual wheel turning don't reflect this. I may need to tweak the deadzones further, not sure. The default settings kind of suck, though.

I ended up springing for the Ultimate edition. I can see playing this quite a lot and the events are pretty fun. After I bought it, it unlocked a bunch of cars and the money bonus is really nice. Seems worth it if you're going to put some time into the game.

I turned off Traction Control, seems like the only real difference is now when you gun it off the line, if the car has too much torque you'll just start slipping. Otherwise I haven't seen much of a difference in normal racing.

Still can't quite get the hang of drifting, though when I watch people on YouTube it seems like maybe you have to do manual transmission and leave it in 2nd or something to really get it down. Not quite there yet with my skill level, though.

What difficulty settings do you guys roll with?

back when i played i did unbeatable but supposedly there have been some AI tweaks.. but i'd start off with it on hard or what ever the option is above that.. also don't be afraid to ram your way through the first corner of most of the races and if you get too far ahead of the AI it'll cheat to catch up to you. last two tips, the AI will always brake for corners that are either yellow or red on the braking guide even though they could take the corner full speed just like you, and the AI can't drive on dirt to save it's life so use that to your advantage. the AI system on horizon 4 is a drive on rail system so they always want to be in the same spot every single race and if you get in their way they'll just move you and you can't move them off of it. but there are certain races where the AI's completely broken and they'll literally crash in the same spot every time you run the race. there's one winter race where all the AI cars will take a corner and roll over and you win the race by default basically, lol.

as far as the drifting goes, you need to tweak the adjustable parts on each car to find a setting you like for the car. the limo is the most fun to drift though.

Drivatar Difficulty: Unbeatable
Driving Assists Difficulty: Custom
Braking: ABS Off
Steering: Simulation
Traction Control: Off
Stability Control: Off
Shifting: Manual
Driving Line: Off
Damage & Tire Wear: Simulation
Rewind: Off

I would actually watch videos from the real Drift King to find out how to manipulate the car for drifting. Some of the real world application applies to the game. Using manual and choosing the right gear is definitely a big part of it, as you want to stay within range of peak torque. Don't worry about using the clutch as it doesn't matter that much in the game, but it can make it easier. To have an easier time at it I would also start with one of the prebuilt drift cars the game comes with, as they're already setup to make an easier time of drifting especially on the throttle. The M6 is one of my favorite drift cars in the game.

Since i went into the game to get my settings i jumped into a few drift cars and gave it try. They are relatively easy to drift however they are extremely to twitchy. if setup changes could be made to where they arent extremely twitchy it would be alot better but i was able to drift them. Also learning to brake while on the throttle is something that will help if your entry speed is to high.

Why do these cars operate in what seems like a method that the front brakes are on? Ever noticed that?

Thanks for the input, guys. Other than Manual transmission I think my settings are fairly similar. I guess I just need to get used to it if I want to learn drifting.

EDIT: Oh, also...did you guys spring for the Treasure Map? Kind of stupid that it's not included with the Ultimate Edition, but it's only a couple bucks.

no you can find the treasure map online if you want to find all the spots, no reason to buy it. i just put it on my left monitor and found them manually.. there's a few that can only be found during the winter and 1 thats a royal pain in the ass to get to on the edge of the map way up north in the mountain ridge.

Fair enough. Some of the billboards I have no idea how to get, they are up on top of buildings with no apparent jump or anything.

they're hard to get and sometimes require certain types of cars to get to them, need to use the hillsides around the houses to reach them which i typically used the monster truck(forget what it's called) to get to them.

So I've been trying to drift and it's just really fucking hard for some reason. I can't seem to maintain the drift, even at the lowest gear and only doing like 30-40 MPH, I still end up just spinning out. It's incredibly frustrating. I barely tap the E-brake when turning and it's just uncontrollable.

Armenius - what wheel settings are you using? I've tried tweaking some of the sensitivities based on various internet advice but I don't know if it's helping or hurting.

I tried practicing with the M6 in 1st gear and even that was uncontrollable for me. No matter how fast I whip the wheel back around to counter steer it still just loses traction and spins out. I can't seem to push the gas pedal lightly enough to not cause a spinout.

If your talking about the one on the roof of that church then there is a ramp that unlocks after you do so many jumps that allows you to get that one easily.

As for drift cars if you are building them yourself then make sure it has the drift suspension. Since you have the ultimate version you should have gotten the Formula D cars and they should be listed under Formula D as the manufacturer. Try to learn on those as they are already loosely setup for drifting.

Edit: NVM. That was preorder only. Costs 7 dollars to get it after launch.

There is an alternative under Chevrolet there is a Silverado 1500 Deberti Design Drift Truck that you can can try out that came with the car pass.

As others said, look for not-so-obvious routes in the terrain. There is one particular board near the player home in the southwest part of the map that you have to drive a few hundred feet away and lineup with a surprising amount of precision with nothing to go on but the layout of the trees in the area. Find a powerful car and upgrade it with AWD and dirt tires to make an easier time of it. I used the Koenigsegg Agera RS fully upgraded with AWD, dirt tires, and dirt suspension when hunting for all the bonus boards.

You need momentum to properly drift. Going slow in 1st gear is going to just be frustrating. Find an area where you can keep the car in the 60-100 MPH range. In the M6 FE drift car I would keep it in third and just balance with the throttle.

With a wheel I would recommend Normal steering if you're trying to use Simulation. I use a G920 with the default setting. In the game you need to be more progressive with your steering input than what you see in the real life videos like I posted above. Try not to add much more than a quarter turn of the wheel if you're using a 900 degree input. At the moment you use the e-brake you want to pitch it just ever so slightly with as little input as possible. Once you get the rear end kicked out try to balance it at first with neutral steering and then add counter steer as needed. Use the FFB as an aid to figure out when and how much is needed.

If you have any of the Formula D cars try practicing with those. They are a lot more powerful, so you will be able to drift with the throttle alone. Use the Scandinavian Flick instead of the e-brake in this case to pitch the car into the turn.

After watching some YouTube videos on drifting it Forza it seemed like most people recommended using the circle in the Festival area or some of the tighter hairpin switchbacks to practice, and generally not going above 40 MPH or so, so I dunno. Maybe that was bunk advice, but it seems like they were able to do it alright. Though, I do think some of them may be using controllers which I'm sure is way different than doing it on a wheel.

I tried practicing in the ~60 MPH range in one of the "Drift Zones", and I couldn't even keep the car on the road and kept failing. It just seems like once I hit that E-brake, if I do nothing with the steering after the initial slight turn to get the drift going, it just flips a 180-360 without any other input. If I try to counter steer, even turning the wheel as fast as possible in the opposite direction, it'll at best just run off the road.

I'm using a G29, so essentially the same wheel as you, just the PS3/PS4/PC version.

I've tried using the M6 FE one that you mentioned, which does seem easy to get into a drift, but I just can't hold it for more than a second or so without it either spinning out or just regaining traction and losing the drift.

I've also been able to initiate the drift via hitting the throttle briefly and swinging the wheel, versus just using the E-brake, but it's the same story - I can't maintain the drift once I get into it. I've heard people talk about feathering the throttle, but it seems like no matter how light a touch it just spins out.

I dunno. I guess I just need to practice more but I was reaching the point of frustration last night after an hour or so.

Good tip about Normal vs Simulation for the steering. I did try both, and it did seem slightly easier to try to hold the drift using Normal, but still not able to really get very far in general.

It is far easier with a controller. The muscle memory won't translate to the wheel, but it may be a good idea to try it to give you some idea how the weight transfer dynamics in the game work.

I was talking to MavericK who is a newbie to drifting.
Im pretty new as well. Its not something i do in these games and ive literally not completed a single drift challenge/event. Im used to simulation steering and once you learn to drive the cars on that setting it will be easier to drift.
