"As part of our optimization work, we have added Vulkan support to the game. We have been able to do this not only for Beyond, but for the current live version of the game. As such, we wanted to release this to you as soon as possible.

Final Vulkan support will bring many PC players an immediate performance improvement, but it also helps us increase our options as we continue to make significant engine changes. It is only one portion of a large body of work that will see technical improvements for all players on all platforms."

NICE!

Note: this is live with the Experimental Branch only! Read this before trying.

Accessing the Experimental Branch

More so than normal it's important that you update your video card drivers.
Nvidia: https://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx
AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support

Please note there is the possibility that experimental builds may introduce new issues that haven't been caught in test. We'd like to recommend that all players back up their save files, by making a local copy of the st_[userid] folder found here: %appdata%\HelloGames\NMS\

Note that we don't anticipate any issues here. However, performing your own backups could mean the difference between resuming play immediately, or waiting for the next patch.

If you decide to opt out of experimental and return to the main branch, we strongly recommend resuming from a backed-up save from the main branch, rather than taking an experimental branch save back to main, which may cause unexpected behavior.

Feedback and reports of new bugs/issues being found on Experimental are welcome, so please reply to this thread or submit a ticket to https://hellogames.zendesk.com/ with the phrase "Steam Experimental Vulkan" in the ticket title. If you are running any mods for the game, please list them along with your bug report.

To play in Experimental, right-click on No Man's Sky from the Steam library page and select "Properties". Among the available tabs will be the "BETAS" tab. Enter "3xperimental" in the textbox and click "Check Code". "experimental - Experimental" will now be available in the dropdown menu under "Select the beta you would like to opt into".

Nice to see some more Vulcan support being added to games! Think I'll just wait for the official release though.

I played it for a few hours last night. It is INCREDIBLY faster than the crap base client. I could actually have fun playing because it wasn't a slide show!

The loading screen went from what felt like 3 - 5 minutes loading textures to 30 - 45 seconds?

Wow, and I just imagine you have a beast of a system (i could be wrong, the beast could be a dog) so that really says something.

The devs continually add free updates to the game after a rocky start. kudos to them

Awesome. Now I need to see if I can get my friends back into the game. A couple of them had severe performance related issues using the 20X0 Nvidia cards and I am hoping this will solve it.

This game got some not-so-enthralled reviews when it first launched. Has anything changed since then? Is it actually fun?

Yeah but does it still use 14GB of system RAM??

I jumped on it when there was a Steam sale back when the game was about a year old. I should have read the reviews because for the most part the game was unplayable on AMD cards. That was the ONLY game I ever went back to Steam and got my money back. That was a big disappointment because it looked like loads of fun.

Each time I come back to this i binge for like a week straight then just not touch it until the next big update. Might give it another go.

In three years? Yes, it's changed dramatically. It does play sort of like a sandbox, where there's an overarching "goal" that's not particularly important. The exploration part is pretty good, at least until the randomization kinda runs out of ideas. Acquiring ships is kinda cool. Building a base can be fun. There is multiplayer but it's still pretty primitive. There's an update coming this year that's supposed to enhance that significantly (aka "have it actually work like one would expect").
I got it for $30 on Steam and for that price it's a good way to burn a bunch of hours.

This game bored me to bits, mind numbingly repetitive.

I actually enjoyed the launch game as it was everything I expected (avoided the hype train and carefully read the interviews).
Now it's almost unrecognizable, everything has been polished, think an actually finished Star Citizen without the FPS in ships (yet - I bet it's coming) and a little less complexity..
My only complaint is that the older versions were easier to casually play as there was less to do.. I just love exploring and unwinding with it every few months.

Wow, maybe I should give it another shot. I maybe had an hour of play time that was nothing but constant no texture glitches and crashes then I gave up completely.

Yeah, give it a try, the stability and framerate are much better (can't speak to AMD cards), and the updates have really added tons of new stuff to the game. It's certainly not for everyone, but if it clicks for you it will have more gameplay than you can shake a stick at.

I got it like a year ago when they did the last big update and it was on sale for $10. Played for an hour or two then got bored. It's.... I don't know what it is. But it doesn't feel like a game. It feels like an easter egg hunt on Mars.

Running a Vega 64 and its night and day! As others have mentioned its actually playable now. 90+ FPS at 1440p with minimal drops. The game is absolutely rinse and repeat but I find it relaxing. Put some tunes on, pour a drink and zip around the galaxy for a bit. I also picked it up for 24.99 and at 30 or less its totally worth a look IMO.

A gfx card usually works.
