16-port Webmanaged Switch with 2 SFP Open Box $52 shipped

Instead of spamming the Hotdeals forum with one-off specials why not start one thread titled Super Limited Quantities and either edit it or post in it.
What's the difference in this and the other deals that sell out in 10 minutes? Doesn't really matter if the deal has 1 or 1000--when it's gone, it's gone.

Besides what I'm posting isn't for everyone, hence why this inventory has probably been sitting so long to be discounted as deeply as it has.

As always, if you don't want to see the thread, you don't have to.

It's an okay deal, would've been nice if it had SFP+ rather than just SFP.

Use case for those SFP ports is to make a aggregated fiber uplink, as long as you don't mind the gig speeds.

I think anything with an SFP+ (10G) is going to be impossible to find in this price range right now. 10G is still a current migration path so besides the NICs, everything 10G I find still commands a premium.

But since 40G and 100G are being deployed more and more, a lot of the use 10G stuff should find its way online at some point.

10g is actually affordable now on the cheap end with the Mikrotik stuff and TwinAx cables.

The other 10g stuff is simply too unwieldy for the home user (loud and power hungry).

Look up crs305-1g-4s+in and the switch linked above. That's what I run with my ESX servers and NAS. Works great for a flat network, especially if you run flash storage. TwinAx cables go for like 10-20 bucks if you keep things within 3 meters. fs.com has cheap SR-SFPs if you need some distance.

In the end, the multi-gig stuff (2.5G, 5G) is long overdue and will be awesome for the home user when it finally enters the mass market.

MikroTik stuff while a great value, is definitely a bit more of a 'hackers' product as you can really get under the hood and need to at least know what's under the hood to use it. Most switches aren't like that, especially lightly managed ones.

But the value is undeniable. There's a guy on the smallnetbuilder forums that's a super hardcore MikroTik user, but most people can't get the same success that he gets with his setup and end up dumping the product later. For me, it's about half a notch higher in complexity from the Edgerouters, and those can be a pain with something as simple as multi-wan.

What really excites me though is seeing 10G really here and even here in 10GBase-T versions, which was touted as being 'not needed' by enterprise folks. And the 2.5/5G just opens the door to much, much that can be done as existing wiring plants like the 400Mhz wire at my parent's house originally put there in the mid-1990s will be able to continue to push on with even more speed. And with gigabit Internet speeds becoming more available, it just opens the doors to a lot more in the next decade. (y)
