Mortal Kombat 11

If this isn't the definition of hypocrisy then I don't know what is.

“Our character lead, Brendan George, has been a breath of fresh air of just introducing new ideas. Our design is just getting more mature and respectful. You’re not going to wear a bikini to a fight. You’re not going to be showing so much skin. I think it’s just what the game is about: You’re going in to fight for your life, and you’re not going to be wearing such scantily clad items.

“I’m sure that will disappoint some fans. We don’t have bathing suit fighters, and I think that’s fine. If people are disappointed, I don’t regret making that change by any means.”

Gotta say, while the bikini costumes were impractical and honestly pretty cringy, going the opposite direction and dressing yourself in what appears to be all the bed sheets and curtains from a hotel room is equally retarded for fighting game costume design. Sonya wearing what appears to be leather pants and jacket would also be poor choices.

Man, the excess finishing moves our just a bit too violent. What's next? MK 21 will have real life realism where it looks like you are killing someone for real?

I find the revulsion over expression of sexuality baffling. Bikinis are now cringey? Not that I remember ever having bikini costumes in MK, that was DOA, which I never really liked and not because of that. But because first is gameplay, but after we have that I still want the fighters to look good.

And the fact is that wearing less clothing for fighting is practical. If you wear baggy clothes your opponent can grab onto them, it can get tangled up, and you can get choked with your own shirt. There is a reason people immediately take off their jacket / shirt in a brawl, and it's practicality. So this ahole saying that they dressed up women for practical reasons is an outright lie. And the fact that most male fighters in the game are still bare chested seals it.

I recall playing the original Dead or Alive on PS1 and seeing the utterly (udderly?) ridiculous attempt at "boob physics" on all the scantily-clad female characters. That shit was cringe-worthy then and I was a teenager at the time, but my friends and I laughed it off and basically attributed that stuff to "horny Japanese men" that we figured went out of their way to program it. That series has basically doubled down on the concept with every release since then though, so at least they're consistent.

But no, I would not consider a bikini to be a good choice for a female fighting game character, just as I would not expect a banana hammock to be a good choice for a male character. Judging by the designs for the men in those pictures, the women should also have some sort of combination of skin, armor, and clothing, and I would think there would be plenty of opportunities to make it "sexy" while not going completely overboard into pornland.

lol at costume realism, impracticality, etc etc. they get stabbed in the brain, chest, neck etc and hop right back up. also, yes the topless men is hypocritical.

Honestly I don't remember ever playing DOA, but the realism excuse is just pathetic. People get their bones broken a dozen times in a round, but they say it is not realistic to show some skin in a fighting attire. Maybe they should tell that to professional MMA fighters. Their dishonesty knows no bounds, and I don't want anything to do with a dishonest ideolog.

If you're going to hate on a game, hate it because it's MK: The game series where everyone moves like a robot on crank. Obviously they aren't the worst fighting games, but their animation leaves a lot to be desired.

I agree totally. They move around like crabs, i don't get it.

Deception is still the pinnacle of the series for me.

I guess for me it would have been UMK3. Beyond that, I don't really have much connection to the series. I bought MKX but never really liked how slow and clunky the fighters felt. Plus, I just don't feel like learning a bunch of combos and stuff anymore.

Have you played the newer games since MK9? They play pretty differently from the original series.

There is a patch coming to fix the grinding on the way.

https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/0...ts-koming-to-towers-of-time-and-krypt-rewards

I really hope it is a most significant patch. I picked up the title (without Kombat pack, buit I got it for around 43% off) on the reports that the core mechanics of the game, options, tutorials, and depth of content including single player content are all present. In fact, most reviews of the game that do NOT mention the potential for grind or whatnot generally find the game almost entirely positive, though stopping sort of calling it best "modern" MK, saying that award may still go to MK9 (ie the remake of 1-3 Ultimate, storywise), though they definitely consider it better than both MKX AND Injustice 2 .

That's why the grind and difficulty unlocking is so disappointing to me - ESPECIALLY in light of this being a Warner Bros + Netherrealm title. FIrst, WB just recently, with Shadow of War figured out that shitty lootbox monetization will reuin a game - even a good one. To their eventual credit, they revamped the game into the Definitive Edition and rebalanced it to take all the craptacular "lets ENCOURAGE them to buy a loot box by grinding" shit out of it, leaving the game as it was supposed to be played - a MUCH better title! Netherrealm has proven with with MK9, MKX, Injustice, and Injustice 2 they can make reasons for people to keep playing and giving them things to unlock without it being a massive grind with lootboxes the goal - they KNOW how to do that. THey even have other monetization options available in the Kombat Packs, season passes with new characters and more so it isn't like there's no opportunity to monetize, but they need to justify that base AAA game fee and initial Kombat pack value first of all!

Hopefully they'll really fix this and it won't be a "slight adjustment" because they've already lost so much good will by creating the mess in the first place, they can't expect a lot of it to return just by cleaning it up - IF they clean it up properly at all.

This is what ticks me off about game journalism these days. The IGN review in particular goes to lengths to describe the grind and what a detriment it is to the experience, yet they still give the game a 9/10. I hope the advertising was worth the taste of putting your foot in your mouth, IGN.

Actually, only fighting nude makes sense. The Greek believe in this too. It's not pornography because the concept isn't meant for titillation. It's meant as a practical and equal footing. It meant you could trust your opponent to be free of advantages as everything is laid bare.

This is the only acceptable fighting attire. Everything else is an attempt to be prudish.

Terminator T-800 added kinda neat to see the animations just throwing people around.

I'm a huge fan of the series, but it went too far with the grind and the SJW excuses about costumes for females, all the while parading around scantily clad dudes. I don't care what they add to it or do to it at this point. I'm skipping this game at any price.

Deception was the last good MK game, in my opinion. Came out 15 years ago this month.

Honestly these newer ones are pretty good but they ruined them with all the MT bs. Fighting games have become a joke. $5 DLC character is freaking insane. Do they even give you a way to unlock dlc characters with out spending the money?

I think modern Mortal Kombats are still good, I do not bother buying all the DLC though I may buy a bundle if they are cheap enough during a steam sale.

I still want the game but am waiting for an ultimate version that’s like $20, it’ll get there eventually.

Could you imagine spending like $100 on this game? Lol

And you still won't get all the content! This would of been a day 1 purchase for me but all the MT and grinding bs turned it to a never buy. Don't care if it is $1. Not one cent is going to a company that pulls this bs from me. I wouldn't even pirate it.

Indeed. I won't pirate it and I won't even take that game if it were free. I don't want the developers to believe that any of their BS as it relates to this game is acceptable in any way shape or form.

I bought this game last July for $50 for a LAN party to throw up on the big screen for a tournament.

I finally got around to playing at single player today.
The last boss is ridiculously hard, frustratingly hard. After having no trouble with any of the fights in the game I couldn’t even beat the last boss.

I was using Xbox One controller and it was olay for normal default/medium difficulty to that point.

I pulled out my arcade stick and beat the end boss in one try.

Nothing beats an arcade stick for fighting games. A standard controller isn't even close.

I have to give the MK11 developers respect for actually offering a lot of single-player content. The same I can say for relatively few others, including Street Fighter V, BlazBlue series (which has always had a fantastic story mode among others), DragonBall FighterZ (which has a nice single player campaign, though I'd like to see new chapters to it in the Fighters Passes), and Soul Calibur VI. When it came out MK11 seemed incredibly grindy to unlock cosmetics and content alike (the Krypt) in what seemed like an attempt to encourage users to just buy stuff with real money currency, but I've been told that this has been remedied in subsequent months - is this the case?

I picked up the game and its Premium pass with new characters awhile ago, but haven't gotten back into it. This is a reminder for me to give it another look.

And yes, a good arcade stick definitely preferable in my mind , especially for titles that need at least 6 action buttons for combat. That's a nice looking stick...with official old school MK layout? Did you buy or build it? I have a JasensCustoms PanzerFightStick 3i that I built and it is fantastic.

Wut? Lot of content sure. But locked behind a shit load of grind trying to get you to pay for it.

That is an official licensed xbox 360 Mortal Kombat arcade stick made by PDP for Mortal Kombat 9, that works perfectly for MK10 and MK11 on PC. It connects via USB 2.0 and Win 10 has built in drivers for it.

I have a pair of them for tourneys on the projector HT setup. Its a lot of fun, and I’m glad I bought them.

I see you can get them used on ebay for about $60-$80 shipped. They were $200 new IIRC.
They are very nice quality, and open up with a latch on the front to showcase the complex innards through a plexiglass showcase. Apparently the guys who do the teardowns on these and know the components say they are well made with high quality parts.

there is one new in box on amazon for $130
