Hi All,

I'm a bit confused on which option to keep on here

Current display set up -
2 X 2580 x1080p 75 hz monitors
signature is current rig

My computer has no issue going above or staying at 75 frames, so I keep vsync on. But there are times that the frame rate falls to like 70 or 65 and it feels that because of this drop, stuttering happens to where it goes down to 30 or 20 framerates for a split second afterwards. Is this because vsync is on?

What settings typically result in the smoothest gameplay to avoid such a severe stutter?

Without VRR (G-Sync or FreeSync), your choices are either to live with tearing with V-Sync off or to eliminate tearing and live with potentially weird frame pacing and input lag with V-Sync on. That's the problem that VRR solves.

You might try frame limiting, or fast sync, if there's something in the drivers or using MSI Afterburner. Might also try playing with game settings to eliminate dips in framerate.

Currently on freesync monitors using an Nvidia GPU, no GSync options in my NV control panel. Is there a driver to get this option?

Generally, you need to turn FreeSync on in the monitor. Might need to reference manuals or see if anyone else has tried it.

Are you on the latest Nvidia driver? Many FreeSync monitors are now supported, but not all.

Supported or not- it should work so long as it is turned on in the monitor (a stickler for Nvidia's seal of approval) as well as activated in the drivers, to whatever capability level the monitor has.

Well, 75 hz is showing on my nv control panel, but the OSD doesn't have that option for some reason. Odd.

How is this possible? My Freesync monitor only has HDMI ports

If the monitor is only HDMI and does not have DisplayPort ports, then there is no much you can do.

I mean, you could wait to see if Nvidia enables it on HDMI, but I doubt this will happen.

Or you could trade your 1070 Ti for an AMD card. Swapping for a used Vega 64 would be about equal in performance and price.

Also, the newer Nvidia driver for Windows that supports using Freesync monitors with Nvidia GPU's is only for Windows 10. Other Windows versions don't have the option available in the Nvidia control panel. Linux has it too. But Windows 8, 7, etc. don't have it.

On any currently released cards, I don't even think that it's possible- Freesync and G-Sync both use an official alternate mode on DisplayPort, one that is part of the standard- Freesync over HDMI is something that AMD just made up.

Nothing stopping Nvidia from including it in the future, and they should for TVs that support Freesync at the least, but it's almost certain that this won't come before a new generation of cards.
