"Intel has reportedly hired up another of AMD's top executives as Raja Koduri hopes to basically rebuild RTG under Intel's banner and its resources. This time it's Heather Lennon, who led AMD Radeon Technologies Group (RTG) marketing and had been with AMD for over 10 years. She directed the Team Red community and won PR Week award for Campaign of the Year 2014. Lennon bagged 40 awards for digital marketing for AMD, and is widely believed to be the brains behind the PR upper-hand AMD enjoys among tech forums and the DIY community.

Lennon now joins Intel as Senior Manager, Digital Marketing for Graphics, and will work closely with Mark Taylor, an ex-NVIDIA exec who now leads technical marketing at Intel Graphics. Other ex-AMD and ex-NVIDIA honchos include Chris Hook and Tom Peterson, respectively. Raja Koduri is overseeing Intel's ambitious project to make inroads to the discrete GPU market under the new Xe brand, not just to serve gamers and PC enthusiasts, but more importantly GPU compute, cloud compute, and AI markets. Koduri is also reportedly lending insights to Intel's new Gen11 integrated graphics architecture, which debuts with its 10 nm "Ice Lake" processors."

It better be a damn good GPU!

I know that Intel could create something better than AMD cards.
Your Next card will probably be a Intel card I wonder if their driver team could compete with Nvidia.

Ugh. i just hope AMD doesn't force me in the Intel camp like they did with AM2. I really wanted to get a dual core 939 CPU but no, they wanted more money, so I went C2D.

I actually want Intel to produce a good GPU. Competition is good. They've brought a lot of shills lately, presumably they've brought a lot of technical talent, too. It just doesn't hit the news for some reason

This is just conjecture...

Is it possible they know how bad their GPU will suck and they are essentially just removing detractors from the arena by buying them off ?

It would be cheaper to raise payroll by 5 million than to lose 100 mill on the product.

Toss that around in the 'ol noodle.

Hopefully their gpu is not on the same pricing level as their processors.
I am curious to see what they can come up with, they certainly have the budget and now the talent, interesting times ahead.

Why would they be getting people from AMD then?

Wait, AMD has a marketing team? I think Intel got the short end of the deal there.
My thinking is along those lines...
Don't see the loss there. AMD marketing has been horrible, even worse it doesn't communicate the value they offer, yes even with lower end products they do offer value still. Enough value to have some more sales with good marketing I mean...

They are hiring a bunch of leaders so the leaders can scalp the talent? I mean I know a good leader is important, but so is rock solid talent.

This reminds me of the days when Personal Computers were new and companies were reverse engineering and building their own versions left and right.

As long as they don't do anything stupid on the windows side they will destroy them.

Intel has actually had very good GPU drivers for a long time now, they are one of the biggest open source boosters around having dedicated many Intel engineers to open source development. Their Linux drivers are 100% open and very very good.

The hardware of course has not been. lol

As I see it if Intel can just manage hardware that gets them up to the plate their driver team should be able to slam it out of the park.

Hey Intel, hire me, I live within spying distance of Epic Games. I have big ideas for the Intel Extreme Game Storeand Ice Lake Battle Royale

An AMD marketing person? I’m sure nVidia is quaking in their boots! /sarcasm

Given AMD’s marketing track record, Intel could’ve done better.

You so sure about that? What Chipset is in the XboxOne? PS4?

Everyone talks about how the new consoles are doing. Remember other than the Nintendo tablet thing all of them are running AMD solutions. And that is influenced by Marketing.

Hell The Xbox One is basically a AMD showcase for hardware.

I wouldn't say they've done a bad job in the least.

You're missing a couple of key points:

1. They didn't market directly to consumers for the consoles - MS, Sony, and Nintendo took care of that for them. They just had to sell to the decision makers at those companies and I'm pretty sure cost played a big factor - those decision makers aren't often influenced by marketing claims and want to see proof of performance and balance it with cost.
2. Equally as important, nVidia shot themselves in the foot with both the Xbox and PS3. nVidia has also pissed a lot of consumers off but if you want performance at the high end, nVidia is the only game in town right now.
