I know wccftech doesn't mean much, but this time they have some real looking slides that show Intels Xe GPUs will have X2, X4 etc. configurations that have 2 or 4 or etc mGPU chips. The text further claims this technology will be seamless to games, so it should just work in all games, which would be a nice step forward from CF/SLI.

They have designed the One API to act as an intermediary between the Direct3D layer and the GPU(s) (I am told they have a Linux solution in the works as well) and allow the user to scale between multiple GPUs seamlessly. Seamless is the keyword here as a multi GPU that can perform cohesively as a single GPU has never been made. According to the presentation shown at the Xe Unleashed event, the GPU will register essentially as one large GPU. This will allow it to mate with applications that may not have the capability for multi GPU and retain almost all backwards compatibility.

I guess as with CPUs, multi-GPU is going to have to push forward technology. Seems like they are tapping out the limits of a single chip with the seemingly minor advancements the last couple of generations.
