Tom “TAP” Peterson has been the Director of Technical Marketing of NVIDIA since 2005 and after almost 14 years spent at the company will now be moving on. He posted the following message on his facebook page on Friday:

“Today was my last day as an NVIDIA employee. I’ll miss them. They carried me through some tough times and I am eternally grateful,”

seriously.... what the hell does intel have planned here? theyre collecting major players from everyplace for something big. id be shocked if their new gpu is world shattering enough to be collecting all these people.

They are stealing everyone

Intel... The new evil

:D

If by stealing you mean offering talented people more lucrative salaries to hire them away from competition that clearly wasn't paying as much, then yes, they are stealing.

And if by evil you mean participating in the capitalist market economy by hiring talented employees to improve their competitive advantage to reverse their decline and stay relevant, then yes, they are evil.

Yes they are evil...... Not sure what was confusing you... My statement... Or my sarcasm.... Clearly one of them

:ROFLMAO:

I don't understand Intel...if it was AMD hiring all these people like Kyle etc I could understand...they need the help to try and take down Intel...but why is Intel doing it?...makes no sense

They need to appeal day 1 to enthusiasm market since those person are normally the go to reference for "normal" people. How many person that knows nothing to electronic will only have NVidia word in mouth because they heard this from buddy XYZ.
believe it or not but even if the main market is not the niche market, those that buys niche market educate the middle market people. At least that's how I see it.

Well, they expect to have a real GPU available soon and are probably starting to feel the heat a bit from AMD in the CPU arena. They're trying to quickly correct for years of complacency.

Can't help but feel AMD will be crushed long term though. AMD will reach parity with Intel, but I am sure Intel will put out another "I series" like the originals longer term that puts everything AMD has to shame for years to come. And AMD is having great difficulty competing with Nvidia. Whatever the bring in at the higher tiers isn't selling well due to high prices and low output. I can see Intel over taking AMD GPUs 6 or so years from now. And if they get back on track with high end CPUs AMD may be done. Maybe Nvidia will buy AMD and make CPUs? :p

Hope I am wrong though. Waiting for Zen 2 personally.

This seriously starting to look like the beginning of some epic movie. Just imagine each person we've heard about in the last 2 years being introduced in the beginning of the movie individually. Seeing glimpses of their present and past. In between we see people we don't know making plans at Intel and positioning for each new recruit. Then the team is assembled and the plan is in full motion as if for some epic battle.

I'd leave too.

Jen-Hsun Huang is a fucking dick to Tom.

The more Intel snatches up, the more interested I'm getting in this Intel GPU launch.

Yeah, but I hear the. Hiring a ton of marketing and management. May even I have just missed it, but I haven't heard much about engineering talent.

You can't market and manage your way to a new product...

It goes to show how serious Intel is about their dedicated GPU. They need to have talented people on hand to not only help with the design but also the marketing and consumer outreach. Let's be frank, Intel has burned A LOT of bridges among the enthusiast market in the last few years and they want us to get behind them and their upcoming products.

Intel is starting to feel the heat from AMD and rightfully so. I am still hope AMD is able to keep the pressure on them. I don't want to see Intel just stomp competition by doing something underhanded throwing money at the problem.

All the people they are hiring are PR people to some degree, not world class engineers.

I don't think that Intel is looking to reinvent the wheel.

They have a lot of engineering talent already.

Intel prepping for huge marketing push. Wonder why.

Because NVIDIA have the GPU and data center/AI markets on lockdown with technology + excellent marketing. Intel knows they need a massive marketing push to enter the GPU space and be taken seriously.

Well I saw this over on reddit earlier today:

How hilarious/awesome would it be if the Intel GPU was a nvidia beater, after like 2 years of development, and AMD has been trying for a decade or two.

It probably won't happen for their first release but maybe in a few generations they'll reach parity with NVIDIA while AMD will probably just give up eventually. There's not enough growth in the PC AIB market for 3 players.

They aren't planning to fill a third player role.

They have already won major super computing contracts. They are coming for Nvidias cookies.

On the other hand you could say grabbing the other guys marketing people... as well as outspoken reviewers could be a good way to control some spin if their efforts really are lacking. lol

Exactly. I was impressed until I saw what the job description. Then I was like "oh so Intel just bought Nvidia's spin doctor. Bravo." That's literally a marketers job, to convince people to buy things regardless of the quality of the product. And you can't polish a turd, even though they certainly try.

You seem to be forgetting about them hiring Jim Keller the main man behind Zen.

They seem to be making a serious push to get back on track but they really need to get their process nodes in order if they want to lay the smackdown on anybody(almost including ARM at this point).
