Radeon VII & GeForce RTX 2080 using Ryzen 7 2700X & Core i7-8700K

Can’t wait to see 7nm Ryzen. Intel might be in some trouble. AMD won in Fortnite but the 1% low was interesting in games like RE2.... all three cards hovered around 60FPS almost which happens to be the same as a vsync lock. Weird.
Intel is stuck at 14nm, it is in big trouble.

The RTX 2080 is better overall, but I still think Radeon VII is a good buy and it is competitive.

Radeon VII seems to overclock better, so you can probably close the gap with tweaking.

Or if you need AMD specific features (e.g. FreeSync over HDMI for Samsung TVs).

I don't know why people talk about the fan noise, it is a very quiet card on the auto fan setting.

No flipping way, I had one, it ramped up fast and could be heard through my headphones (which are open back).

I have all Noctua fans running around 900 RPM, my system is barely audible and the VII sounded like a rackmount server compared to everything else.

Thanks for the information! I am really torn right now. I can't seem to figure out which GPU I want. I am upgrading from a GTX 970. It is a great card, but it is time for a change.

LOL! Is it that bad? When are they coming out with different coolers?
I don't think they are, to be honest. All of the VIIs so far have been completely reference models, and I haven't heard any news to suggest that AIB partners are planning their own versions with different cooling solutions. Whether this is down to the reputed limited number of cards in the channel, I don't know.

Using the default settings it can get sort of loud, but if you do a custom fan tune it is not loud at all. From my seating position playing no games, it is 45-46db. Playing games with the Radeon VII fans at 60%, it is 47-48db. My computer is on my desk about 2 feet away. I do have some light auxiliary noise sometimes as my house furnace is on the other side of one of my office walls in the garage.

The card is lower performance than the 2080 in everything except Bf5, and that's hardly a flagship game to punch sales. And the 2080 is actually powerful enough to turn on RTX, making that a better selling point than FP64.

Also, the insistence on not testing at 1080p gives you no fucking clue how these two CPUs actually perform when the GPU is no-longer the limiting factor. If you really want to kn ow which one is the better value, you should include lower resolution tests (same quality settings) to see how big the gap really is. IU'd expect the 8700k to be about 30% faster in most games.

If you're buying a fairly high-end CPU, you'd want to know how well it will perform two years from now, when you just upgrade the GPU? In that case, if you're still running 1440p, you could see double performance in these older titles...if you bough the right CPU for the job.

They should've used the 2080 Ti in there too since half of those games were GPU limited by the 2080.

This article wasn't a CPU or GPU benchmark. The point was to show how different platforms perform differently, given 2 popular configurations.

Correct. Lets just round up a review @ 640x480. Knee cap Ryzen ram to 2133mhz, and overclock the intel to 5ghz, set XMP, since we all game on 480p.

Oh wow, don't read those comments over at techspot. Those guys are arguing a 4c/8T cpu is better than an AMD and Intel 8c. Wow...
