BioWare's new IP: Anthem

BioWare GM Casey Hudson has written an Anthem post-launch update, acknowledging some of the shooter's issues while promising that the best is yet to come..."We launched a game that so many of you tell us is really fun at its core, but we also had a degree of issues that did not reveal themselves until we were operating at the scale of millions of players," Hudson says. "We were of course very disappointed about that, as were many of you"

Some of these problems, Hudson points out, have already been addressed...one of the biggest complaints, the dearth of endgame loot drops, was finally tackled last week, for instance...he also promises more world events, story and new features that will culminate into the upcoming Cataclysm event in May...

I've been saying from the beginning that the core gameplay is excellent...it just needs more content, better loot drops, more enemies and hopefully some more varied locations

It seems with higher luck I do get more masterworks from doing Tyrant mine up to 2 each time on GM1. It is at 140 now.

Game seems dead on pc now. I tried earlier and put public on a random mission and none had joined the game. The first week was active and easy to group up. Kind of slowed down now. Anyone experienced this on pc?

I have no such experience , playing on either GM2 ,1,hard,normal. That with dungeons, freeplay and legendary/normal missions....

I've had this happen to me a handful of times. I assumed it was a bug, but I could be wrong.

What is it that makes you posts these things Daishi? There plenty of videos out about these things and none of them bother me. Most of them are straight up advertisements for Division 2 ....

Ranging from none of my discord members are playing Anthem any more to saying that there is nothing broken in Division 2. It is becoming a broken record where people keep saying the same things in each Anthem video and for what exactly ?

Because some youtubers in escapable need to keep saying bad things without some of them even playing it ....

Because its the truth? Anthem needs to be punished as hard as possible, this game is everything that is wrong with gaming today period. PERIOD!

Stack up Division 1, Destiny 1 & 2, and Diablo 3, etc. This game makes them all look great at their launches its that bloody bad.

If you think The Division 2 is so great then join us in that thread. I've said my piece about my thoughts on Anthem in its current state earlier in the thread, and I don't feel the need to continually post about it. The people who are enjoying the game are going to continue playing it no matter what anyone says. I'm personally giving it a few months to cook and I'll come back to it later. I've said early on that I believe the game is a lot of fun going back to the alpha, and my opinion on that hasn't changed. There are just glaring issues with the gameplay systems that need to be addressed, and I'll be more than happy to pick the game up again when they are.

I've put a lot of hours into this game. My main suit is all legendary items except one component. I was easily able to get all suits up to full masterworks since you get guaranteed masterworks abilities and components from strongholds and contracts, respectively. Connectivity and server side disconnects have been the biggest issues although in my opinion they are much better than at launch. The patch over a week ago did a good job for power scaling, despite what the alarmists videos and such would say, your best bet is still to get your total item level as high as possible for overall damage and survivability. The patch this past Friday definitely made loot drops more frequent however I would say they need to make legendary items always at least decent by having minimum inscription values. Too many crappy legendary items!

Of course they need more content too. The freeplay events they churn out don't add too much at all. A new stronghold and cataclysms are on the horizon but that stuff looks to be over a month away. I can completely understand the dislike for the game but for me I'd rather stick with Anthem than buy Division 2. No doubt TD2 is more polished, not a huge hurdle to get over, but to me it's just a cover based shooter that I've already played. I'll be picking up Generation Zero to fill my gaming time and only occasionally going back to Anthem until the new content arrives.

they need to let players salvage or move to junk multiple items at the same time...having to do one at a time is annoying

with Sekiro out I don't think I'm going to get much time for Anthem for a short while...but my interest in the game has not waned...I'm hoping next weeks patch revitalizes the game and it only gets better each month...

Today was rather odd , 1st 2 GM1 dungeons done both dropped legendary 3rd one did not ;) . One from a chest other one from creepy crawly mobs before the end boss.

I still not to sure about the luck stat. I removed a piece of master work gear for epic to boost 35% luck . Before I did not get legendary but for the 2 weapons.

But the master work drops are sometimes much larger then other times ( 4 then only 1) and it seems with legendary contracts (where I got my legendary 1st drop) have not been so good on GM2 and supposedly that should be an improvement for legendary drops....

from what I heard you should not go above 189 luck (you get 100 luck by completing the campaign so any additional luck you add to your javelin is added to that total)...the luck aspect is something that hasn't been talked about much by the developers so players are trying to figure it out themselves...I'm not sure if the 189 luck is 100% fact but that's what I go by when farming for Legendaries

Well I run with more luck on my Interceptor 250+ if you want to count it that way. But the difference seems so big when you change one item out for another and suddenly the stuff starts dropping.

TLDR - Played for the first time today, wanted it to get patched up a little (PC). I put around 4 hours in today. The game is beautiful but I found it boring. There is nothing that "grabs" me. It came with a GPU purchase, so I'm glad I didn't pay real money for it. It needs a better story, it needs soul.

I will keep picking at it, but right now I am not feeling the love.

Don't hate me, just being honest. I was actually looking forward to a new Bioware game... but so far, this isn't it.

Don't worry about it, it is not a Bioware game ;) .
It is more like Diablo 3 with guns :) and indeed the Anthem world is rather special.
The quest line sort of tries to take you there but not quite far enough ...

Anyone want to throw me some beginners tips that you wish you had known when you just started? I picked a Ranger suit because it seemed like the most balanced. That's usually the way I go (balanced/soldier classes). You can't change suits for a while, right?

Do content scaled in the right way. Don't go on hard mode if you keep dying. When you are low level your drops will seem to suck but higher difficulty does not reward you with better gear. Just more level appropriate drops and not much more then what you would get on easier difficulty.
When you are nearing L30 (can get epic items as low as L23) that changes again. From epic to masterwork is a big step. Hit the J button and check the challenges tab on top select your daily chores and check what you can do for some coin and some crafting items.

The dungeons are fun but gets repetitive so do them in spurts. The AI in dungeons is not always the same but it does look like it , don't be fooled by it it can change around to hurt you.

Yeah, Ranger is a good starter. I think the hardest but most satisfying Javelin to learn was the Colossus. Mainly because its shield system is different from the other Javelins. You'll find deploying the Colossus's shield while sprinting is great as a weapon for knocking down smaller enemies but also for defense when reviving down team mates.

Don't forget to use consumables too, they help a lot.

It might be that were getting that new patch tomorrow 2 hour down time. After that the bosses from GM1 and higher are no longer restricted to drop anything up to master work so they can have legendary drops.

I still think Storm is the easiest javelin to start with...it's pretty OP and very fun to use...Colossus and Interceptor are also great but require more of a learning curve...Ranger is too vanilla and boring but might be good for people who just want to jump in and play...BioWare did a great job making each javelin feel unique with specialized skills and move-sets...they each play very differently

I've been having the most fun with Ranger, actually. Storm is far too squishy, so the leveling curve doesn't allow you to feel OP for very long. I feel Interceptor is the most satisfying once you get its gameplay loop down, but I still can't get over my male avatar looking like a chick in that suit.

This the FOV patch ? Might try it if on sale somewhere if so , couldn't play with the launch default FOV though.

the Elysian Caches sound great...previously there was not enough vanity items available either through drops or through the in-game store...they really need to increase the timer after a mission/stronghold ends...I'm always rushing to open the chest or collect items because the timer returning you to the end-of-mission screen is too quick...

I played twice yesterday, Tyrant stronghold at GM2 and a freelancer contract at GM3, and not a single legendary. I think I'm starting to get bored with this game which is fine as there are other games I want to finish that I hadn't since ANTHEM was released.

LOL they fixed nothing in reality is what I'm hearing. *just shakes head*

Yep, same. People on the Anthem subreddit are saying that the patch made things worse. No more guaranteed MW drop from stronghold bosses, chest loot has been replaced by almost nothing but embers, Elysian Caches don't actually give you anything when you open them, and Legendary missions don't always drop keys. Also reading that their attempt to fix the scaling and power level made every single class die in 1-2 shots on GM2 and higher no matter how you're equipped.

Learned that the lead for Anthem is Ben Irving, who famously said during a Star Wars: The Old Republic stream, "RNG is EXCITING!" No wonder the loot system in the game is fucked up.

So much for me jumping back into this game.

Yeah... just went to Reddit and its not good. Appears the only good thing about the patch is being able to access the Forge without a loading screen. Till next patch I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are articles claiming that DLSS boosts performance up to 40% for 20-series cards. The game has always looked a little muddy, but I doubt the blur is that big of a deal in this instance.
