Nobody knows if Valve’s Left 4 Dead 3 will ever see the light of day, but the franchise’s original developer may have the next best thing: Turtle Rock Studios announced “Back 4 Blood” this week, a co-op zombie shooter with a campaign and PVP mode that should cater well to L4D fans who have been clamoring for more. “We know we have some big shoes to fill, but we’re going all out to surpass everything we’ve done before.”

"We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over 10 years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains. We also have some of the best teammates in the business at WBIE, who understand our development process and are equally committed to our player-first mentality. We love being able to announce, so we can start working with the community right away."

These guys single handedly destroyed Evolve. Was involved with that first hand and watched it happen. I have no use for them, great artists but terrible at executing anything. They can take a hike with this, I don't need a round two. they need a manager, badly, that knows what they are doing, their management is foobared.

Oh look more 4 player consolitis.

Funny fact: pretty much any servers still running today for l4d/2 are modded for 16-32+ players.

Eh, I only played the second iteration of Evolve when it went FTP. I think there are huge balance issues inherent in asymmetrical play, they could not find any balance after many years and the title just died; it is a fun game but not that fun.

LFD2 - is truly an amazing 4 vs 4 game, highly underrated and most people did not even play it as such.

Anyways if you want a good 4 player PvE game and support an amazing developer, pick up Deep Rock Galatic!; been playing for over a year.

Evolve had a lot of potential, but 1 v 4 is asking waaaaay too much from player balancing.
You get one turd on either team (obviously especially monster), and it just feels like 15 minutes of wasted time.

And of course, they tried to charge out the arse if memory serves, so that cratered it from the outset.

Like i said, I was deeply involved with the high tier play, both talking directly with these people and others in the community. Very privy to what they did and did not do and how much they didn't listen to anyone or have any real management to speak of that had a clue what was going on. In fact most of the upper management was rather deer in the headlights about actually making it work past just creating the art.

I've no interest in dealing with them, ever, again. I suspect Valve did a lot of oversight for L4d hence why it's execution was much better. So if anything you're just bolstering the point I'm making.

I haven't played a single of the zombie games, and its wearing thing for me, its like a COD saga wearing thinner and thinner.

I am pretty sure they had little to nothing to do with L4D2. They created L4D1 and Valve created L4D2 and still holds the Left 4 Dead name which is why they're changing the name to Back 4 Blood.

IMHO, L4D1 is better than L4D2. I never liked the way L4D2 played, but L4D1 was awesome. If they just took L4D1, upgraded the graphics and added PvP (where you can play as the "zombies") then L4D2 would have been so much better.

Pass.

L4D was great, and probably one of my favorite purely co-op shooters, but I can't be the only one that thinks the zombie genre is played out.

I'm surprised they are not making it BR.

Just when I was thinking, damn you know what we need, another FPS Zombie game

And then Turtle Rock Studios is all hold my beer i got you

Huh? Left 4 dead 2 did have 4v4 PVP where one team played as zombie specials and the other humans. I loved it and put like 1500 hours into that versus mode.

Honestly all they have to do is upgrade Left for Dead 2 maybe add some special effect get Mike Patton from Faith no More do the sound effects again. Stay away from Epic as well.....or be multi laucher. Make sure the co-op characters are realistic as well like the LFD 1 and 2.

I never said it didn't.

I was the exact same. I didn't like the played for laughs tone of l4d2. The first game wasn't exactly serious but it still had some grit to it. Also the l4d2 campaigns and characters weren't the greatest.

That, too. My biggest gripe was how different the "movement/controls" felt over L4D1. They felt "loose" so to speak. For L4D2 to be a competitive game with the PvP part it seemed like it should have been tighter controls on the 2nd one more so than the first. Kind of hard to explain honestly. I put a couple hundred hours into the first one, but only around 15 in the second one.
