Got this in my inbox: https://promotions.newegg.com/NEema...92476&et_p1=&email64=U0VOR19IVVBAWUFIT08uQ09N

Not sure if the code works for others.

Figures, deals when I don't have a little extra...... It'd be nice to swap this 1900x out for a 1950x
(sigh) One day maybe.

Would this be better value vs 9900k for gaming and streaming?
For gaming/streaming the 9900k is generally going to be slightly better due to it's higher clock speed even though the 1950x is technically a faster chip on speed alone.

What could you do with the threadripper that you couldn't do with the Ryzen 5 2600?

A lot. There should be plenty of comparisons available to search.

2600 6 core 12 threads vs 16 core 32 thread, and lets not forget PCI lanes... Whooo

If you aren't doing movies, youtube content creation, some other content producing number crunching with 4k video then the TR is just waste of money or just "Because" you can buy it. Granted it has it's place but I don't see what it would be.

I'll see above post and raise you virtual machines.. I would consider selling a few fingers for a 16+ core threadripper for my daily needs.

I run a 1950X, and I do 3D modelling, game design and video editing. A single 1080P render of a 3D project can take 30 minutes with 32 threads. Imagine how long it would take with 12.... or imagine trying to make a 4K render....

True, though a good follow up question is to ask what one plans to do with their PC. I'll bet most people, including power users like the ones we have on this board, would see very little to no benefits from the extra threads and lanes.

Now if you're running VMs, editing/encoding 4k H265 video all day long and also want to fire up a game, or if you simply like looking at all those idle threads in Task Manager, (This tends to be the most powerful reason for buying TR) then thread ripper is for you. If this isn't you, TR is probably not the best choice.

If you are using it for only those purposes the 9900k is going to be the better buy. The 1950x is fine for gaming but it's more comperable to a midrange cpu in performance. For streaming the extra cores aren't going to help you much there either. It is a great buy if you want to do some more exotic things with it like rendering though.
