Insurgency: Sandstorm

I picked this up and it is much more polished than when I played in summer. It feels like insurgency, maybe a little faster than the original but all the key pieces are there. I would like an indoor map too though for some variety.

Gave this game another try. Overall it is better and TDM makes me somewhat interested in playing because the other modes are horrible.

But they need to fix the recoil. It is still utter shit, from the early 2000s. Guns go straight up like in a cartoon, and they automatically come back down. So if you aim for the center and try to compensate for rapid fire you end up shooting at or below their feet. Utterly unacceptable. It also seems like there is a huge delay between the bullet actually firing and the recoil. You get recoil and then the bullet is fired. All of this makes the shooting feel both very unrealistic and unnatural. The awkward damage model (essentially 2 shots will kill you) also doesn't fit too well given how awkward the shooting is. You'd think they would make semi auto useful but again due to the issues above it is not practical at all. Full auto is much quicker at range and you have less recoil when you rip off 10-15 shots versus firing three shots in semi auto rapidly. I don't understand why they think doing a mag dump in an AK should have less recoil than a double tap in an M4A1.

And then the moving and shooting mechanics are even more shitastic. Essentially your gun becomes locked into a straight vertical line so even at point blank range you can't shoot without looking down the sights, and even if you do, the weapon essentially goes up or down. The walking also has an out of sync "floating" animation which doesn't actually go with your characters steps or terrian which makes it feel very awkward.

You can't walk around a corner, tap two shots, bring up sights and move side ways to a corner while returning fire in semi auto in this game.

They really need to see how BF4 does things. Full auto at point blank works, but at distance you're better off tapping single shots in rapid succession (like real life). Also they need to see RS2 Vietnam to see side way movement when doing full auto. Guns recoil back and all around, not straight up and then fall back to earth like a meteor. Reminds me of those awful shooters from the early 2000s. So much potential here but I don't see them fixing any of this anytime soon.

any indoor ministry like maps yet?

At first I was like wut and then I went OH.

Thought you meant to say "any indoor maps like ministry yet?", but then loosened up my mind and considered the possibility that you also meant to ask if there were any maps like the Ministry from the OG game yet.

Unfortunately, no. :(

I legit laughed out loud at your minor rant. It is true, though, and I agree with everything you said. I still play the same for some reason, hoping that it's not just me because I know I'm not a terrible player. ArmA also has it done right too...

No new maps in the latest updates. THey has said Ministry and another one was going to be included but not this time nor night time fights..

Yeah I'm trying to give the game a go, I did spend about $30 on it. It isn't all bad but the gun handling is just off. Another thing I've really found to be a problem is that there is a rate of fire limiter for semi auto. I just tried some of the guns like the Hi Power and M4. You can't shoot semi auto as fast as you can pull the trigger, it seems to stop you at 6-7 shots, then kicks your weapon down. There is a good second pause between being able to pull the trigger again. It feels very awkward and probably this is why semi auto feels so hard to use.

Edit: Tried again. This time no such "limiter" was present. Must be a lag thing, but both times my ping was fairly low and I only connect to US servers.

I certainly can get into it but whenever I do the weird gun handling just smacks me in the face and it isn't something that you can ignore. If they mixed BF4 & RS2 Vietnam recoil, removed the limiter, and added more maps I'd seriously look at making this a game I play frequently.

new ministry map is out. but was getting 30-40 less fps than I get on the other maps. game still feels just as janky as it was pre release. last night was the first I've played since it officially released. feels like mouse acceleration gets turned on when ads. I wish movement and leaning was more fluid. doesnt seem as good as I remember it being in the original. also the community is pretty toxic over comms at the end of the match. wanted a game to take a break from my usual bf5 and fortnite mix. I dont think this is it.

I haven't played it much since the first couple weeks. It was toxic at the start too, I should give it another try.

mixed reviews in the last 30 days on steam. they should take vehicles out of the game. they are so laggy driving down the road its like watching a slideshow and makes me think, this is still alpha. the game is so focused on camping. who can camp harder. and kills are decided by who sees who from behind more. the game could be more fun if bullets did a little less dmg. I think right now it takes 2 shots in the chest to kill someone. which I'm not sure if thats even realistic assuming you're wearing a vest.

I bought this a little while ago and never really gave it much of a shot. I'll have to try it again this weekend.

The new game modes make this game intresting again like defending the capture or freight point it can be dull at times.
Unless someone starts attacking other players.

I know this game is old news but I picked it up on sale last week and man is it fun. I should have bought this long ago.

Embracer Group shuts down New World Interactive:

Info here.

“Saber can confirm there have been restructuring changes involving our New World Interactive subsidiary. This reorganization has unfortunately resulted in layoffs at the studio. We are working to fill existing open roles within Saber with individuals affected by these changes wherever feasible and we will be providing severance packages to those employees impacted.

Development will continue on Insurgency: Sandstorm, as well as unannounced future projects.”

If a sequel does come out I fully expect it will become some modern CoD/BF type game. Shame, but I new this would happen after NWI was bought out.

Embracer seems to have acquired all these studios without knowing what to do with them. My hopes for a Soul Reaver and Deus Ex revival has died.
