Next gen Ryzen Ram buy now or later?

What are your guys, speculation on ram compatibility with next gen Ryzen coming this year?
Buy now or later?
 
I speculated about this in the news post about how RAM is currently cheap.

Question is, wait for 7nm AMD CPU availability, specs and details and then buy RAM, hoping low prices last, or buy now, hoping you get the wright stuff. (Or something in between)

I haven't decided yet. I'm waiting a little bit longer. Maybe I will buy a month or a couple of weeks before launch of 7nm AMD CPU's, essentially putting it off as long as possible but still beating the rush from everyone building new 7nm AMD systems.
 
Looking at this too.

With what I've read about the latest AGESA updates, I'm looking to pickup cheap RAM vs very fast RAM (3200 CL16 vs CL14)
 
Ram is cheap? It's still twice as expensive per GB than it was in 2015.

Would it be safe to assume that ryzen optimized ram would be compatible? or do you think they fixed the problems in ram compatability with 7nm ryzen. id hate to go back to the ram prices like those last year right before new ryzen comes out because were all playing a guessing game on which would work out
 
Both DRAM and NAND are still being forecast to fall throughout 2019. Even with that there are sentiments that those forecasts were optimistic and that prices are likely to fall more than initially predicted and forecasts since 2018 hafve steadily been increasing the predicted price declines for both. Bear in mind this is market prices on the supply side and not a direct indicator of consumer prices for end consumer products. It is also worth to note though that Q1 and Q2 tend to have a price rebound (as in higher) for consumer products versus the higher Q3 and Q4 volume (holiday) seasons.

Well, that's the question. And that's the risk you take by buying RAM early. You can't rely on reviews and tests to know you are buying the right RAM.

My best guess would be that RAM compatible with previous gen Ryzen chips is probably a safe bet, but is it the best choice? Will new Ryzen chips have better memory compatibility and an ability to run faster RAM? Who knows. That's the risk you are likely taking. Not getting the most out of the RAM you buy.
 
I purchased some Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 C16 2x16Gb this week as Amazon are selling it at a killer price at the moment.

Most people report compatibility on the X470 chipset so I'll chance X570 compatibility when the time comes.

Amazon was out of stock for a while, so I'm guessing this memory will be some newer later revision memory.
When it turns up I'll let you know.

Works at rated speed (3200) on my AMD X470 board, even though it's not listed on any compatibility list. Perhaps no one got round to testing this particular set of RAM? Installation was simple, and being low-profile means no issues with big air coolers. I got the v5.31 version (2015!). Seems absolutely fine so far.

This review is about the 32GB 3200MHz kit (CMK32GX4M2B3200C16). I have paired this kit with my Ryzen 2700X CPU and ASUS X470 Crosshair motherboard.

Firstly the kit I received was version 4.31 which uses Samsung dies (version 5.39 uses Hynix). This can be important to note if you're building a Ryzen system since Samsung dies offer better compatibility at high frequencies. Ryzen can be temperamental with RAM though as the platform matures this is becoming less of an issue. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing what version you will receive.

Thankfully my Ryzen system is stable with this kit simply by enabling XMP. This was a relief since I have had difficulty with 3000MHz+ RAM before on Ryzen however, results will vary depending on your motherboard, CPU memory controller and RAM.

Rumor mill showing the memory controller on a separate die and running on a multiplier for 5xx chipset boards, allowing much higher ram clocks.
 
Samsung has apparently stopped production of b die memory so if you want the best chips available for overclocking now may well be a good time to buy just in case stock dries up leaving us with only slower kit's available till DDR5.

V4.31 is also compatible with B450.
 
G.Skill has their Trident Z Neo RAM coming out, which is 'designed for Zen 2', kind of like the Flare X series of memory...?

That video covers the current AM4 motherboards, but the best choice for the R3K CPUs, in regards to memory performance, will most likely be the X570 AM4 motherboards...
