We will have the same thing here in 5 years tops. the only difference is it will be integrated in to facebook, and morons will opt in voluntarily instead of having it forced on them just like the idiots that voluntarily give DNA samples to be collected in a database so they can know what % Scotish they are because you know that the sort of thing imbeciles care about .
Don't give'em any ideas.

Christ you two are literal. I said not AS OVERT, but you two missed that part. About being judged, are you kidding me? Have you seen the blackface blowback? Think anyone's not been hired because of some FB post of them passed out drunk? It's already here. Doesn't matter if your aware of it.

In the US... You have the right to remain silent. You are not in any way compelled to have a FB account. You certainly are not compelled to post information about yourself for public viewing. You absolutely are not compelled to post things about yourself that are derogatory. There is NO equivalence in the US to the Chinese system. Some of us understand the harm social media accounts can have on our personal lives and therefore choose NOT TO HAVE a FB account or any social media accounts for that matter.

And for NOT having a 'normal' social media presence. Coupled with the use of your FICO score, the US already has a limited version of the China system.
All you need to do is add in a system of government hired "Reminders" and "Observers." The crew of Reminders track your daily volunteer "commitments" and remind you to do them. The Observers track every moment of your existence and adjust your score as they see fit. Better make friends with both groups as they are watching you.

Hah! That's the best part! It's not mandatory. I wonder how many opportunities I've been passed on because I had no social profiles. It can be just as bad and impossible to prove.

Exactly we won't have to mandate it here if you chose to opt out people will just treat you as if you are a pedophile or serial killer. Having no Facebook credit score will be even worse than having a bad one. No need to have government paid observers report on your behavior, your neighbor Deborah will do it for free, because she's a nosy, pumpkin spiced latte sipping, yoga pants wearing wearing cunt that enjoys gossiping about people and has nothing better to do with her day.

So now you're comparing assumptions to something actually in effect in china...... You may think that, but that doesn't make it true.

I'm also am not dumb enough to post any private info/pictures on any social media, and have no accounts on twatter/insta/any other stupid platform like them. My FB is from years ago with no pics/info/set to private and doesn't even have my real name.

Well the social media blowback is real and has real consequences on people's lives. So I don't think it's purely assumptions.

You and me both except I never had FB. Doesn't mean any opportunities have been lost because we either don't have one. Or if we did, passed because someone's views didn't agree with ours. Anyway, I don't consider China's score and our social media too far apart.

You guys want to learn about china watch this, pretty eye opening on the little things media never talks about. Go back and watch their older vids first.

Actually, Winston will give you a watered down version of life in China. He's far too polite. Perhaps he was (rightly) afraid to really show things/say things for fear of backlash that could have gotten him deported or worse.

Pretty sure there was a Black Mirror episode similar to this.

It's almost like they're trying to create a social economy because they have too many citizens and not enough work.

Because they have lived there in China since 2005 and are scared of going to jail or deportation for saying anything bad. Winston (from South Africa) and C-Milk (from NY) have moved out to the US because it is getting so bad over there. They both have Chinese wives.

Holy shit dude are you C-Milk/Laowhy86????

Disagree with the Communist Party of China? Off you go to a "re-education" camp for some good old fashioned brainwashing complete with a receipt certified your brain has been dry-cleaned, pressed and starched. You'll come out loving your communist overlords in no time. :D
They're not communists. That's a dictatorship. China's about as communist as North Korea is a democratic republic.

Or just 1984... Remember, in that book, there were 3 governments left by region.

I just recently read that book and I'm hoping its not already banned in China and their citizens are able to read it.

Civil war in less then 10 years.

Actually had this record when I was a kid. Loved this song and his version of Taxman.

I know who they are. No, I am not that little creampuff.

I liked the Orville’s version where it’s more... by the people.

It's almost like every video about China is a commercial as to why you should live off the grid.

So basically, living in China is the same as playing a morality Sim, at least for the average person.

What do the Chinese people in general think? Unfortunately you don’t hear much of any criticism from folks there. Very sad state.

That's what I wonder too.. what do THEY think, you know statistically.
I don't agree with that system, and neither with the one currently evolving in the USA, with yiur credit report for insurance and jobs, and with the social media background checks.. or with the MIB (that one I don't know if limited by law, I don't know, probably not). Criminal/ illicit Drugs yes that is too important and directly impacts your job... Everything else is bull, and should be outlawed.

The state of Maryland requires students to complete 75 hours of community service in order to graduate high school. Of course, they are pretty loose with what constitutes "community service" and a lot of it can be done at schools.

No matter how one feels about all this, I think we can all agree things are headed that way on a global scale. Can't escape the planet. Hell is real, we're building it.

States would never allow the fed to dictate the social credit of its citizens.

What will happen is companies will create their own social credit system based off scraped info from the internet, then use that to filter your resume before it ever gets considered.

You can bypass this though by knowing someone who has contact or is the hiring manager for the position you want. That's how people get the good jobs anyway (well the interview for the good jobs). Not by playing the digital lottery like the masses. I have no social networking accounts and I didn't have any problem getting a great job, but I didn't have a computer deciding if my resume should ever see human eyes either.

Well, I haven't heard anyone express major concern over it. That said, it's not up and running in my city...maybe not in this province at all yet. People may change their minds once they see what it really is.
The gov't here has been in the 'controlling what the citizens think' business for many years now. The positive aspects will be in your face and the negatives will barely get a muted whisper.
Also, the Chinese have collectively given up when it comes to self-determination. 1989 was the end.
The gov't does as the gov't does and the people accept it quietly or potentially pay a price.
Something else to note is that it's not being rolled out all across the country by the State. It seems that it's being rolled out on a city-wide basis and it's not the same everywhere. The size and sprawl of cities here are absurd though. The city I live in is FAR from the largest and it's over 4k square miles with a population of over 9 million.

While I can't say that this scheme was the last straw for me and my family, it factored in. My wife is ethnically Chinese but is a Dutch citizen and we just got our youngest her US passport. Our time here is approaching the end. 8 years ago I was optimistic about China. Not anymore. Not on any level.

This seems akin to Cercei appointing the High Sparrow to High Septon and then being betrayed by him.

China is literally turning into Slaver's Bay before our eyes.

The dangers of a collective society - such oppression knows no boundaries. Everyone eventually gets whittled down to the ranks of the lowest common denominator, and never the opposite as claimed by the propaganda to push and institute such a society.

Agree. it's hilarious how folks think this doesn't exist in western countries. It does, only it's not thrown in your face like China is doing. Think not having a social profile protects you but you have friends or neighbors or coworkers that mention you in all their stuff? There's a profile on you; you're just not actively contributing to it, so the system is doing it for you. Use a relatively recent smartphone with android or ios? you've got a unique advertising ID assigned to it. small jump from there to the email address to the wireless company to all the personal info to the link to a social profile that fb/google/microsoft/amazon/apple/wells fargo/chase etc has on you. Think there's not facial recognition running on the CCTV video that is on every single block? Subscribe to any services like Amazon, Netflix, or any thing else that creates a "recommendation" for you, thereby building a profile of the things you like or don't like where other attributes about your lifestyle can be inferred? That shares data with other providers for "marketing purposes?" Use a credit card to make purchases anywhere? Don't repay loans or bills on time and wonder why your rates go up? and then in the future why you can't get new loans? no matter where you go to try? Wonder why your insurance premiums change drastically? or the types of coverage you can actually get? Open your eyes. You won't get outright denied with a ban hammer or publicly shamed like China, you'll just be on the losing end of the "market forces" where you just won't have the opportunity to do things because you can't afford them. You have a profile and a social score. If it smells like a duck, walks like a duck, sounds like duck, why keep insisting that it's not a duck?

It's not really an assumption, hiring firms don't hide the fact that they use social media as a measuring stick for a person's hirebility. Not having an account just means they'll pass on you in favor of someone that they can get information on.

https://www.careerbuilder.com/advice/social-media-survey-2017 said:
According to a new CareerBuilder survey, 70 percent of employers use social media to screen candidates before hiring, which is up significantly from 60 percent in 2016. So pause before you post – if you think it could be questionable or inappropriate, you should go with your gut.

all of these practices are unethical ( among many other practices) , but is allowed as norm by politicians

it is sad that in a open democracy like the US, voters keep on asking the same questions to their politicians whenever a chance is allowed to question them

The only reason you can say that is because you have no idea what in the fuck you're talking about.

I've said it before....every single thread about China has at least one ignorant clown comparing things in China to things in the US or the nebulous 'west'. It's always people who have spent exactly zero minutes in China. It's sad to see people who I assume live in 'western' countries shit on the 'west' when they have likely only ever known the security, safety, freedoms, and luxuries that 'western' countries offer. Children often take things for granted, I guess.

The surveillance state in China is designed for the authoritarian Communist government to control/monitor/punish the people for their misdeeds, thoughts, and proclivities, as well as those of their family members. What you described in your post about surveilance in the 'west' is so corporations can sell you trinkets and baubles. While I am not a fan of either, any comparison is foolish beyond words.

Yeah guy, if you don't repay loans....your credit rating takes a shit and any future loans (if any) will be more expensive. Wow. That's not even remotely close to being comparable to what is going on in China. Educate yourself and quit whining about the 'west'.
