Apple's Developer Enterprise Program has gotten quite a bit of scrutiny after both Facebook and Google seemingly violated the program's guidelines. Now, Reuters reports that "software pirates" are abusing the program to distribute modified versions of apps that enable users to "stream music without ads and to circumvent fees and rules in games, depriving Apple and legitimate app makers of revenue." While Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney previously mentioned that Google has a way to track Fortnite installs outside of Google Play, Reuters claims that Apple has no way of tracking these installs. In related news, no "jailbreak" for iOS 12 exists yet, but recent rumors suggests that one is coming soon, which would offer Apple users another potential way to sideload apps.

Apple confirmed a media report on Wednesday that it would require two-factor authentication - using a code sent to a phone as well as a password - to log into all developer accounts by the end of this month, which could help prevent certificate misuse. Major app makers Spotify Technology SA, Rovio Entertainment Oyj and Niantic Inc have begun to fight back. Spotify declined to comment on the matter of modified apps, but the streaming music provider did say earlier this month that its new terms of service would crack down on users who are “creating or distributing tools designed to block advertisementsâ€‌ on its service.

Really hard to feel sorry for things that I absolutely hate about apps... the microtransactions. Now the people who have a crippled version of an app to let you try it then 4.99 or whatever for the full version sure those are great. But the whole stamina based pay for more or gacha systems pay for more tries business model needs to fucking die in a fire

When people stop buying into it, they will stop using it.

Or when someone puts a stop to the Canadian Devil.
If Canada has a Devil I’m pretty sure it’s sorry for causing you eternal pain and agony and if you simply apologize for your sinful deeds and bring them a coffee they’ll send you off with a smile and thank you for your time.

Problem is in many of these instances its not that you are in some silent minority who's the cheap ass. It is these whales who throw down more on a game than most people pay for games in year, either they have deep pockets or worse the streamer crowd who gets "donations" so they can do whale like purchases.

Shit, I do that on my android devices for breakfast. Oh, look at that, I just put YouTube Vanced on my Android phone that blocks ads without even trying. Bunch of millionaires about to go to bed hungry tonight.

The whole needing a special certificate to install apps that are not on the iTunes store is what gets me here. If you own a device, the device maker should have no say on what kind of software you choose to run on it. People running whatever software they choose to works fine on the PC, and fine on Android devices, so why does Apple (and I suppose the game console makers) get to be a special snowflake?

microtransactions are cancer these freedom fighters just cured it.

sucks when someone kicks in the door to your walled garden don't it apple?

Cause Apple built and defends the best DRM in the world. That is until jailbreaking, which is honestly getting really hard to do lately.

Wait are people just now figuring this out.... I figured this out as soon as I started doing some iOS development about 7 years ago.
