Resident Evil 2 (2019)

This game has severe issues when it comes to communicating information to the player. I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. Find an item, go to a place, do some kind of action - just give us a hint for FFS. The game just doesn't have any kind of objective description anywhere despite constantly telling the player to press TAB + E, which just brings you to your inventory and similar. Eventually you'll stumble upon something and progress a tiny bit but then its back to figuring out what the game wants you to do. Meanwhile you run through the same areas dozens of times and keep blasting the same damn zombies over and over again which just gets tedious. I know its a remake of an old game, but they could've added some cohesion and sense to the action.

To top it off, its a terrible port. Lots of random crashes and sometimes you randomly loose any control from the mouse/keyboard. If you have a controller plugged in you can't disable it. Pretty much every other game I've played lets you switch between the two on the fly, but this one defaults to controller first. Unplugging it is an easy fix, but I'm amazed they botched xbox controller implantation so badly.

sounds like old school gaming where the game doesn't hold the players hand and guide them...sounds amazing to me...I'm all for less hand holding and more actual thinking involved...I'll get around to playing this eventually...I still need to play RE7 as well

Yup, except this game scares the shit of me so I dont want to explore lol :(

Puzzles themselves aren't a problem but early in the game figuring out what you needed to do was a pain. I think for four hours of gameplay your objective was "get three medallions". Game gets much better later on though.
This is classic Resident Evil, so you have to explore every thing you have access to. It may seem like you're missing stuff early on, but just be patient and you'll eventually find items and clues that you can use to access previously inaccessible areas. Also, always examine any unique items you come across.

The combination for the third floor locker in the police station isn't revealed to you until you're able to come back to it after the parking garage, if I remember correctly. There are still things to find in the police station before crossing the point of no return when taking the cable car, as well. You still won't unlock everything until you've played through all 4 scenarios at least once.

You kind of just stumble upon them as you make your loop around the station. I don't think I had to explicitly look for any of them, they were kind of just along my travels.

I got the two hardest to obtain medallions and then I got stuck wondering what to do next. Turns out the statue I was missing was literally in the main room of the police station. Somehow I climbed those stairs numerous times, completely oblivious to the statue right in front of my eyes.

Same for myself. I have to say the game does get better and I think it was a better game than RE7. Although RE2 wasn't scary at all (save for the one or two times a licker surprises you) I found it to be funner. The later levels are open but not stupidly big, so going back and fourth doesn't take 20 minutes. Reminds me of how good games used to be, which were a good blend of openness and linearity.

How? It's literally pointed out to you when talking with Marvin at the beginning of the game...

Seconds before Marvin shows you the notebook:

Marvin shows you the notebook (the same notebook you pick up automatically and can look at at anytime in your inventory, by the way):

After playing RE2 Remake I gained a new appreciation for the classics and them having such interconnected worlds.

I'm referring to the lion statue at the top of the stairs, not the goddess statue. As for how I missed it... Dunno, guess it kind of just blends in with the surroundings.

Okay, that one I understand. I ran by it, myself, the first time. It kind of blends into the background when you approach it from the library.

Given they've made the knife lame and put Nemesis in the game, would it be asking too much to let me parry and punch the hell out of some bad guys a-la RE5? That's my only complaint. I don't want to run from Mr. X, I want to lazily make my way through the game as I did TWENTY YEARS AGO.

x is the worst part of the game by far. I could of done without him and maybe had more zombies in his place.

No way, zombies are so much worse than X. I'm pretty sure I can make X stumble with less bullets than it takes to kill a zombie. Friggin sponges man...

I had zero issues with X. Only got bitch slapped by him once in that one part in the jail cell area where you pretty much have to take it from him, or all those zombies in the hallway. Otherwise he's easy to figure out. No where near as bad as the Dad character in RE8 who would sniff you out from a mile away and walked super fast.

You're not kidding. I shot him in the face 2-3 times with a shotgun and he decided to take a break. I like to lazily run around games, so I hate having to make an effort to not alert Tyrant, but the normal zombies are the real jerks here because the virus has apparently evolved to create an incredibly dense mass out of their heads.

You shouldn't be using any ammo on X, ever, until the final fight. Just avoid him in the mansion. If you get cornered don't bother shooting, just run, take a hit, and move on.

Sigh, just beat Claire on 2nd run last night. Thought I'd get some cool new story perspective but mostly the same bosses and areas were reused. The continuity is all fucked up cause of the lazy writing.

Should I play this first or RE7? The last RE i really played was RE4 and loved it on Cube and then Wii.

There is really no continuity between this and 7 if that is your concern, so whichever one you want.

Hilarious. I hope they make a mod where that song plays when he appears. The comments section is funny too, someone suggested that the antenna in his head was a blue tooth speaker

I really hate him though. "Mr. X sir, I'm just trying to collect ammo", X GON GIVE IT TO YA!

Is he even killable ?

I don't have the latest currently. I'll probably install them as I assume it may help. Safes wouldn't recognize the inputs until I exited the games. Lockers worked fine. Now I just can't figure out how to equip and throw grenades. If I click equip there is still no way to toss them unless a zombie has hands on me in which case it is a QTE. Is that the only way to use them? Google doesn't bring up any results aside from "equip them". I assumed you'd be able to put them in slots 1-4 like the pistol / shotgun.

Definitely not enjoying this one so far. I think I've spend more time on google trying to figure out how to do the most basic actions then actually playing the game. Classic example of poor GUI and lack of reasonable communication to the player. Which is too bad because I actually though it was more interesting than RE7.

Watch jacksepticeye’s walk through, then play it. It’s hilarious.

Not without the scripted events in the games storyline. Its best to avoid him & run, or use flashbangs on him if you get in a jam.

He is definitely the creepiest fucker I've ever seen in a game. He's right up there with the Jeepers Creepers dude.

For all you pussies crying about Mr. X, there is now a working mod that removes him from the game without breaking the required scripted events.

Not sure why so many people complain about him, I didn't find him much trouble. I liked the sound of his footsteps it added a bit of tension. It will be funny in RE3 when there's a mod to remove Nemesis.

Ja, would remove the whole point of the game.

Holy hell this game uses a lot of VRAM.

Nearly 7.5 gigs @1080p on high.

Which is weird considering how small the environment is, no?

I’m no graphics expert, but I’d imagine it’s all texture memory based on how amazing the game looks.

That's strange, I'm at 1440p at max settings only using 4.8gb's of VRAM.

I've seen some strange things with the REengine involving Vram with both this game and RE7 in 4k. RE7 seemed to hover 9-11GB most of the time with my 2080TI. When I was running SLI(using bits) it hammered the 8GB's my 1080's had. Playing RE2 on my 1080TI 1440p rig I cranked most things to max(120% on the quality level) and was averaging 6-8+ GB. At 100% in 4k averaged 7-10 GB on the 2080TI.

Bought RE2 for $30 on GMG last Saturday. Great game and encountering Mr. X has compelled me to start over so I can be more conservative with ammo. Same thing happened to me in the original RE games back on the PS1, lol.

Glad M&K works for movement and aiming as aiming with the controller is awful. Should be more forgiving if you're using a controller just like ANTHEM is. In case you're wondering I do like a controller for most action games because of its immersive vibration effects.
