Steve Buscemi dropped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where he was shown his deepfake with Jennifer Lawrence. He expresses feelings of sadness that someone took the time to create it, but then he and Colbert mull over the question, "Will live actors be needed in the entertainment industry in the future?" The discussion starts at the 4:47 mark of the video.

Steve Buscemi's face was digital superimposed onto Jennifer Lawrence's body in a viral 'deepfake' video. And it's news to 'Miracle Workers' star Steve Buscemi
 
It's gonna be funny when the creators of bits like this find themselves slapped with a lawsuit for profiting off of someone's likeness without permission. Looks like Google is going to have a field day taking down YouTube channels.
 
Yeah, I was going to say something about it but just the thought makes me want to find a nice place in the world from which to watch it burn.
 
Did they discuss it? He commented on it, and Colbert said they won't need them anymore that they'll just capture their faces and animate them.
 
He's only 61? Christ, i would have thought late 60's minimum. :eek:

Great. One more thing to have to worry about how long before it enters the public domain.

At some point, Animation is going to be really hard to tell from live action.
 
How long until actors license their likeness to studios? Arnie can do action movies as a 30 year old until he dies.
..then..
How long until we have people selling the rights to their deceased partners/parents appearance to studios?
..then..
How long until lookalikes/impersonators get sued for unauthorized use of a famous person's face?

Then again, why use a real person at all.. generate an amaglam of some 'beautiful' people's faces and you only have to pay a body double a pittance.

If you can pay a pittance for a body double, why not the same for an actor? I mean, take the whole Witcher 3 scenario. Author took a small lump sum, and then sues after the video game takes off. The same with a young 20 something. They're not going to know they're going to become famous. And you have millions of them. Studios will probably be able to buy lifetime likeness rights for a similar pittance.
 
I will not watch Colbert. He was wonderful once, but now he is what he pretended to be, and that's so disappointing.
