According to esports journalist Rod Breslau, a surprise Titanfall-universe title called “Apex Legends” is being released on Monday for PC, Xbox, and PS4. It’ll be free to play, but strangely, Titan mech suits will not be featured. “’It plays like Titanfall mixed with Overwatch and Blackout from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4,’ they told me at the time—and from what we’ve heard, publisher EA held an event for streamers and YouTubers this week to show off the game, which is likely how the news leaked.”

I heard from a Respawn source that Titanfall 3 was well into development and that the studio had been looking to release it by the end of 2018. The rationale, that source said, was that the game’s underlying technology was starting to feel dated and that Titanfall 3 might not feel or look as good if it came out too much later. Perhaps the studio decided to switch engines for Titanfall 3, releasing Apex Legends (which is also reportedly on Source) as a stopgap as it pushed back the release of a proper third Titanfall game.

they just made a quick mod of titanfall2 with the map editor, and release it as a f2p, monetized battle royal to get into the craze.
respawn is supposed to be working on a star wars game, so i don't know what is this talk about tf3 come from.

EA keeping their creative edge, I see.

Titanfall Battle Royale? Interesting. F2P? Hmmmm, interest waning.... wait, no mechs? Interest gone. The on-foot combat of Titanfall games are my least favorite part.

I have the same reaction. I understand that gameplay balance would be an issue. Maybe only have mechs available at beginning circle so people learn movement/weapon mechanics and last circle (maybe enter a arena where you get to set up mech with a hyped up music/cinematic countdown). Too bad, with mechs it would be the first battle royale game I take some serious look into.

Activision: "Wait, engines become dated? What are these fools talking about? Here, take a look at our 2019 Call of Duty release."

No mechs = failure. I was interested until i read the new Mech part....wtf

Which is honestly miles ahead of Source at this point.

The shitty ass BR stuff in CS:GO ran worse than BF5 on my system at launch. I saw streamers with monster machines routinely dropping under 100 fps.

shame titanfall 2 tanked sales wise, the overlooked single player campaign was really good, mp was not so bad either

It failed because they launched it at Christmas time when the big guns like COD and Battlefield series are the main sellers. If they had any sense they would have launched during a quite period of the year when gamers are looking for something new. This F2P game is also scheduled for a Q4 launch. Without the mechs the game will fail big time imo. Why not at least have mechs that you can get into at random points of the map?

Wow has it been a garbage week for PC games - Metro Exodus pulled from Steam, Ace Combat 7 releases without joystick / HOTAS support, new Titanfall game sans titans.

I hope it makes enough cash for Respawn to do (or finish?) a proper Titanfall 3.

I feel bamboozled, Titan fall with no mechs: that is just poor decision making.

I dunno, when they took the mecha out of Starsiege - that worked out fairly well.

I was told by a friend I trust, that both Titanfall games are great. Dealing with EA is not something I am looking forward, though.

Its Free to play so i will take a look at it. I loved TF1 and 2 they were both great games but they abandoned support for the games after the first year.....its sad really, they would be awesome if they made enough changes and things instead of just plain giving up on the games. EA ruined these games because they tried to pull the COD idea with 1 year release cycle.
