BioWare's new IP: Anthem

but there's no way of knowing beforehand what point in the mission you would be joining in
Well, there is... Actually... If you run around and hide while everyone else dies it doesn't matter which point you jump into. If they don't fix that it's gonna suck. Maybe they will adjust rewards for noobs that dont contribute enough damage, who knows .

Even of you can't add a lot of firepower, noobs that fight rather than evade and hide should get full xp. Gotta reward played for actually trying.

I suppose I should give it time and have a little faith.

I guess the counter to that is making expeditions private and fill it with friends/people you've met in game that you know aren't going to just be leeches. And that relegates/demotes public games as a "last resort" for when there's no people you know online.

One thing I do like is the game allows you to run a private expedition solo (you'll get nagged to do it with team mates but you can cancel it). Sure it may be slower at lower levels and will be more challenging but once your javelin is powerful enough you can end up earning more XP per time invested chaning solo runs.

True

The demo is good, its different from what I've played in the past and I never played Destiny as well. Don't think I'd pay for the ANTHEM because I already got it for free with my RTX 2060 :)

i played through the first expedition (so not much play time), it's better than i expected. my first impression is this feels like a game i would buy and sink time into if it were released in the middle of one of my gaming droughts. since the division 2 is releasing next month i don't think i'll be buying this one.

Or better yet, give it 6 months or so and EA will probably give it away for free like Activision with Destiny 2.

In fairness, I think giving away the base game was a great idea. I wouldn't have bought it, but after playing the base game I went ahead and bought Forsaken which included the previous expansions. I even liked it enough to pay for the annual pass so I could have access to the Black Armory and future content. I know 7 people that I play games with regularly who did the same thing based on my recommendation. They all play the shit out of it.

I still don't get how they thought using a old build for the demo was a "great" idea. Game is still fun....and the shitbag team mates aren't helping with flying around doing dumb crap instead of turning in echo's they've got on them.

to be fair the game doesn't really explain or make it clear what you're supposed to do with those echoes...I had no idea I was supposed to deposit them on that platform my first few games...the objective just says 'silence the echoes' or something like that which is pretty vague

I don't know how, but they managed to make this worse than the alpha was.

At least that had an epic title music, which is now replaced with some cookie cutter generic orchestra score.

And this starts in the middle of something without explanation, no point to it whatsoever, no introduction, no nothing. This is the worst crap I've ever seen.

Oh and the worst of it: Not possible to turn off motion blur. Yes the option is there in the menu but it does absolutely nothing.

Flight controls are also the same laggy garbage still.

The "expedition" menus are confusing, convoluted and unnecessarily complicated. what I have to select the mission, then go back to levels in the UI to actually start it? WTF?

UNINSTALL

I don't think fairness is a consideration, it merely proved that the base game is a trojan horse for ridiculous quantities of overpriced DLC.

The game also runs like turd on my 1080ti despite the graphics not looking nearly as amazing as the E3 2017 reveal trailer. Thought I would verify that, and of course graphical fidelity has been significantly down scaled.

I had no letdowns so far because of moderate expectations.

Like most people I play on a decidedly mid grade rig (Probably low end to some) with a Xeon 1620, RX580 8GB, SSD, 32gb DDR3 RAM etc on a beautiful 32" LG 4k monitor.

I don't obsess over framerates as long as it's over 30fps or so as I seem to be fairly tolerant to that, maybe because I have been around since the "24fps was great days".

It also seems that these days half baked releases are the norm. No Man's Sky anyone? Also....I do like that I can play this with Origin Premier. That makes a big difference to me as my investment is minimal.

I intend to play the game casually, with friends. To get together every now and then and run some missions. I don't feel like I've been screwed with a graphics downgrade because frankly the game looks great to me now, as it did before.

Obviously there are things that need to be addressed. And hopefully most of them will. My biggest concern is content, I'd like to see a steady amount of DLC in the future. Time will tell.

Played this for a couple hours, my thoughts while playing was 'it has potential' which sounds good but the game has been in development for what, 6 years now? Should have been long past the 'it has potential' phase. I won't be picking this up on release, though I'll be keeping an eye on it - similarly to other recent shooter rpg hybrids like Destiny 2 and The Division I picked up a year after their releases after they were vastly improved upon since their release date.

can someone tell me what these mean...in the first screenshot for my Flame Burst Seal, there's Damage, Recharge and Radius...what does the recharge mean?...the number of seconds it takes to recharge?...that doesn't make sense because lower valued seals have higher recharge numbers and is considered better

in my 2nd screenshot for my consumable it says it 'increases the recharge speed of equipped gear'...does that mean it increases the recharge speed of my abilities (such as Flame, Ice, Fire etc) or are they referring to the javelin suit itself (health, shield)?

Recharge on the first screenshot should mean how fast you can use the power again, so I would assume this means the lower the number the better. You are saying though that on a similar item type if the recharge number is say 6 instead of 4, that the 6 shows up as green colored indicating it is better? I hadn't paid enough attention to that to say for sure if lower or higher is better.

The second screenshot should mean it will reduce the recharge time of all your powers for that next mission.

Destiny 2 had an expansion pass available at launch, and that didn't even include Forsaken. Destiny 2 was a very expensive game if you played it from launch and wanted all the expansions. Nothing has been announced in terms of paid DLC for this game, and if I'm not mistaken it's been said that there will be free DLC. But it is EA and surely they will want to monetize this game beyond cosmetics, I just don't think it will be as bad as Destiny.

I've enjoyed my time with the demo so far. Looks good, runs fine for me, controls well enough (I've been using a gamepad). By far the biggest issue for me is simply connectivity, disconnects at terrible times like at the end of a mission. I'm sure that will be a top priority to get ironed out on the server side of things before launch.

I also thought a lower recharge number meant it was better but I've seen items with a recharge of 20 with the arrow up indicating it's better...confusing

Deleted it after a few minutes. Not going to buy this and even if I would get it for free, I wouldn't play it.

Just tried solo free-play and its very boring without team mates. Also, played with Colossus and its grenade launchers are weak af. I went back to the Ranger afterward.

I'm there with ya on the grenade launcher...friggin horrible. The money with the Colossus is the Flame Thrower + Lightening Coil

the primer/detonator aspect is an important part of the game which they don't explain at all in the demo...you need to set up your abilities where you use a Primer first followed by a Detonator to maximize the combo...

I have tried the game a few more times in the open demo, this game just isnt for me. Combat feels slow, the weapons are not satisfying in the least, they even sound week. the mission UI is awful. Flying is cool once you tweak the controls and the environment looks fantastic, but thats the only stand outs for me. I might try it for a month on origins access after its been out for a while, but certainly not a must buy day one game for me.

did you try out all the javelins?...you should try them all to find one that best suits your playstyle

Performance for me is garbage even on the lowest settings. Is this game particularly CPU intensive? I am not seeing anything justifying the performance hit, but maybe my Sandybridge i7 is finally showing its age.

I spent about an hour playing this weekend and it's a gorgeous game but it didn't run particularly well on my new 2080. I'm not sure game play is for me, I got bored fairly quickly. I did get the game for free with my 2080 so I will give it a fair shake when it comes out.

What CPU are you using?

AMD-FX8350, I have a 9700k on the way which I know will help out with the FPS

It's hitting CPU's hard apparently. A bunch of people keep reporting that if you do a search.

My Xeon E5-1620 has maxed out a few times.

Bosses are supposed to be impossible to solo in Expeditions, right? Or am I playing it wrong?

That might explain it, but I wonder whether graphical performance is somehow tied to network performance. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason but I have observed a couple of occasions where the performance has been markedly smoother after a server disconnect. Of course EA doesn't give any indication as to which server region you are connecting to, and you can almost guarantee they skimped on server provisioning for Oceania.

Lots of people reporting maxed CPU performance on more recent machines. Seems like an optimization issue.

It actually ran ok on my old 2600k - I'm upgrading this year....just need a few more things to start the build. The only time I had issues was when I ran in windowed mode - made my poor old video card go crazy (R9 Fury) - LoL.

I mean CPU's and GPU are made to run at 100%?....not talking bad about anyone's PC, but the game might not do well on potato PC's.

Either way not a huge fan of the game. I was....but i dunno just not feeling it.

I'm definitely going to buy the game...it's just a question of when...Day 1 or wait a bit...I do want to play Metro Exodus (Feb 14) and especially Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (March 22)...so maybe I'll wait until I finish Sekiro in April...that way a few patches, optimizations and hopefully more content will be released...but I might get it on Day 1...still deciding

here's the look and loadout of my final Storm build

I didn't read anything about this game up to now. Installed the demo, the starting location was pretty confusing since there's literally no introduction and a lot of things say 'this only works in the full game'. Fumbled my way into a multi player mission (didnt find any single player), our team of 4 shot at some pretty boring monsters who literally never shot me back. Sometimes there was a bigger monster and we had to shoot longer. Sometimes there were lots of monsters and we had to shoot longer. Got to the end of the mission with some color-changing puzzle with 3 stations. Team sat around pushing buttons for about 5 minutes until something randomly hit the right combo. Fucking terrible. Uninstalled.
