Nintendo President Says Switch Successor, Price Cut Not Currently Being Considered

Analysts were convinced Nintendo was preparing a new Switch console for release this year, but their assumption was wrong: in a recent interview with The Sankei News, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed his company didn’t have any plans at all for a successor "at this time." He also confirmed the console wouldn’t be getting a price cut. Neither is surprising, as the Switch has been selling extremely well.

Furukawa commented on a few different topics, including Switch’s success towards the end of 2018. He also weighed in – yet again – on looking to sell 20 million units by the end of the fiscal year, and it’s here that something interesting was said. According to Furukawa, Nintendo is trying to focus on selling Switch and is "not considering a successor or a price cut at this time." Given the system’s success, perhaps that isn’t an overly surprising statement.

Some games would be l33t!!!

Lol so why did the last one with the easy tegra hack get revised?

So Nvidia giving Nintendo a respun X1 automagically means a brand new system is on the way? I'm not following the logic here.

I call bullshit, to all those saying (here and other threads) Nintendo will have all these crazy sales 'if they just port it to xyz' .. here is what is going to actually happen: gamer on the store shelf or online store- " oh look, a mario game... Hmm, yeah I will order Call of Duty XVII " . If you like Nintendo, you will buy their hardware, and honestly I like their hardware and their approach, and their attempts at a vision in software and hardware.
Where are the calls for MS or Sony to give up consoles.. I mean WTF their console IS a PC with a gamepad that is as old as time itself (actually with shit NINTENDO made mainstream).
Of course part of having a console for your own is to charge a cut if others want to publish in your console, as opposed to pay to publish your game.

Port the games to PC already otherwise I'll leech. I'm not buying a console to play a game on inferior hardware. Emulation takes a lot more power than the actual hardware you're trying to emulate and most emulators today run on a single core on my 8 core Ryzen CPU due to the lack of proper multicore code, including the Switch emulator. Should tell you something about these game consoles we're forced to buy to play the games.

Your logic doesn't add up. All of the consoles currently available are inferior to a decent PC (but maybe not the one in your sig..lol). Do you own a PS4 or XB1? Your attitude of entitlement, as if these gaming companies owes you something, makes me sick and I would turn you in if there was an easy way to do it. F-ing bottom-feeder.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. All you are is someone acting like a child crying that mommy won't buy them their favorite toy.
You don't think this was an issue before for Nintendo? Wonder why 3rd party support was weak for Nintendo machines for so long? Since the Nintendo Wii the ability to mod the system to play pirated games has been an on going issue for Nintendo for some time. This includes portable consoles as well like the DS and 3DS.

If you keep buying consoles to play exclusives you are part of the problem. You don't incentivize developers to port their games to PC, and in fact support the idea that exclusives push console hardware. Rather than letting the hardware do all the incentivizing, instead we're letting the games. Makes me sick knowing that someone like you encourages these companies to screw over PC gaming. Look at the shit show that was 2018 for PC gamers, we got nothing nearly as good as what's on the PS4. The one game that PC gamers expected to be ported was Red Dead Redemption 2, but the assholes couldn't be bothered to port the first game to PC let alone the second. Seriously, Xenia got the game working on PC before Rockstar could be bothered to port it over. Nine years and no port, not even a remaster.

Port your games or I will emulate them for nothing.

I don't care for console hardware period, and don't worry Sony and Microsoft are next. If Microsoft was smart they'd put full Windows 10 on the Xbox One, at least it would give their hardware some value. I'm not paying a monthly fee to play games online while it's free on PC. Even Nintendo is doing this, and I heard they're terrible at it.

Highly coincidental don't you think that the Tegra vulnerability which was exposed, the one which allowed copied games to be loaded, was followed shortly afterwards by a revision to stop this?

The Switch is not even 2 years old, FFS, and outlets are already pushing for a successor?

Just refresh the system.. faster processor, more memory.. slightly bigger screen.. etc.

As long as they make the games compatible with the new system.. it shouldn't matter...

I'd grab a 2nd one if they did this.

Same, the Switch is the only console I have bothered playing with after owning all of them for years and years. The others just collect dust. Could be that I am old :|

As far as I know Nintendo has been patching the OS to fix it but version 6.2 is still hackable. Some newer Switches with certain serial numbers can't be, but I'm not sure if that's a temporary issue or a permanent one. Another thing to think about is how powerful the Switch is cause Breath of the Wild on the Wii U vs Switch isn't exactly a night and day difference, which may suggest that Nintendo pushed out the Switch too soon to just replace the Wii U. My hypothesis is that 3rd party developers will not make games on the Wii U due to rampant piracy, and therefore Nintendo was forced to release the Switch. Nintendo screwed up with the Switch and now are forced to release another Switch already to combat the problem. I wouldn't be shocked if the new more powerful Switch had games you couldn't play on the original Switch.

Emulation has always been a problem for Nintendo since the N64 with UltraHLE since it was released just after Ocarina of Time. Dolphin was released during the GameCube's era and since the Wii was basically an overclocked GameCube the Dolphin emulator was able to run Wii games from day 1. Cemu was released working with 1 year left before the Switch, and right now Yuzu can play Switch games. Nintendo should go the way of Sega and just make games for all platforms, especially PC. You don't see this sort of demand with Playstation or Xbox emulation because for the most part those games do get ported to PC... usually. Both PCSX2 and RPCS3 came out after the consoles were dead. Lately with the PS4 getting some tasty exclusives I'm certain a PS4 emulator will come out soon.

All I see here is a lot of entitled crying. There is no problem other than you not getting what you want or think you deserve. I suspect if RDR 1 and 2 were ported to PC, you'd still pirate them. You are a criminal. Period.

I would say to you "start tuned", not sus I have special insider info, it's just that Nintendo actually does do a small spec refresh for their mobiles, although for the switch particularly I wouldn't expect anything until fall more or less, to be a part of the holidays.

Don't get me wrong, I would totally pirate them but I also buy them if I liked them. There are many games that I played through 100% and didn't like it and therefore didn't buy it. If the game was meh or I didn't like it then I'll delete it and forget it ever existed. But there are games that catch my fancy and I buy them, like the Dark Souls series. I seriously pirated them all first and then bought them and then played the shit out of them. I did that with Hollow Knight recently as well. Don't make shitty games or else I won't buy them. If you don't want me to pirate your games then put in micro-transactions cause at least i know those are bad games not even worth pirating.

The problem is that the industry makes it hard as a consumer to buy a game that I like, because I don't know if I like it until I try it. The return policy in games are horrible or don't even exist. Look at the shit show with Fallout 76 and people that can't get their refunds. Now I like Breath of the Wild and would buy it, but it's not on PC. I'm not about to buy a console for $300 to play a game for $60 just to determine if I like the game or not. That $300 console is good for nothing else but playing games, so fuck that too.

If you don't like the services or accessibility of games then you should pirate. I encourage you to do this cause buying their consoles and their games doesn't encourage them to port to PC. Companies like Nintendo and Rockstar who don't port their games to PC where people are obviously interested in their product can sit and watch as potential sales are lost to an emulator written by 2 people running on my PC which eats up 1/8th of system resources while also running at 1080p with AA and max graphic settings. Also totally legal as both Sony and Nintendo have went to court numerous times and lost. I could buy the Switch game itself and just keep it to show I own the game but that doesn't exactly get Nintendo porting their games over to PC.

I can tell if I'll like a game or not without "trying" it. Its not that hard. What you are doing is writing a bunch of nothing as a vapid excuse for piracy and self-entitlement. All you are is a self-entitled brat whining because companies won't bend over backwards to please you. Even if they did you'd still not give a shit and find excuses to "justify" piracy. Because people like you don't actually care about buying games, you care about getting them free. You want games on the PC only so you can pirate them easier.

Good for you cause I cannot. My luck with determining what is or isn't good is very bad. I bought Diablo 3 within the first week of release and played it once and never again. That's $60 down the drain. Hollow Knight that I played back in 2018 was a snore until you get deep into the game, and then suddenly I can't stop playing it. I recently played Persona 5 on the RCPS3 emulator cause lots of people said it's good and I found it to be awful.

Like it or not, piracy is something these companies have to compete with. Denuvo doesn't work, and even the walled garden consoles have doesn't work. Nintendo is shitting bricks because the Switch could end up like the Dreamcast where it died because nobody wanted to bring games to a platform that was super easy to pirate on. The console dream is dead, so port your games to PC. I may sound like a child to you but you sound like a corporate sponsorship from a company who refuses to acknowledge that PC gaming is coming for your business, and that likely means lower prices because us damn dirty pirates won't buy your games unless the price is low enough.

The choice of going x86 for their consoles is a mistake they will eventually regret, because somebody will eventually make a PS4 or Xbox emulator that will run extremely fast on PC's because of that mistake of choosing an x86 CPU. Once it's made it'll be easy to transition to the PS5 and Xbox Two. Think of it like the music industry back when everyone burned music CD's by downloading mp3's off Napster. The problem was that you had to buy a $25 music CD for the single song you wanted to listen, so of course everyone was pirating. Today you can basically buy DRM free music online for $1, because the industry had no choice but to offer a better service than piracy did, and $1 was a pretty good deal compared to shifting through Napster to find music that could have a virus on it or a download that took 2 hours to complete.

Chipped mine, never going back, monthly subscription to play carts I've owned since 1987, eat my rancid cock.

Then again they'll come out with a 4k model, fix the joycons and get me for another $300 because I'm a dumb cunt so I think we're square.

I don’t know of anyone that thought Nintendo was releasing a Switch Pro or Switch 2. I’ve only ever seen most folks talking about a nice revision, possibly a node shrink, larger battery, different screen manufacturer, etc.

I think they’ll go another 2-3 years and release an X2 Switch 2 that’s ultimately the same thing with backwards compatibility.

If all games were 59.99 I think your argument might hold water for longer than a few seconds.

PC game prices have fallen through the floor over the past decade. Even consoles have huge price drops after a few months.

That with the thousands of hours of let’s plays, twitch streams and YouTube reviews should be enough to make an informed decision.

Old PC games go down in value over time. I can pick up the Witcher 3 for less than $20. Terrible games also go down in price quickly like Fallout 76. Let's plays are not the same as actually playing and lots of those people are paid to basically advertise a game that isn't as good as they make it out to be. Without a proper 14 day return policy or demo then piracy is still the best way to determine what is or isn't a good game.

Rumors of Nintendo making a Switch Pro has been going on for some time. Look at the 3DS XL that has games that only works on the 3DS XL and not the 3DS or 2DS.

Nice warezing, eh? Leech.

I just have to point out emulation =/= piracy. I own Wii U and Breath Of The Wild and I still play it on emulator these days so the joke is on you. Using emulator does not inherently mean piracy, you can still buy the game although you cannot necessarily use the disc straight with the emulator but have to rip it somehow. Or just download it which technically is still illegal but if you own the original then who gives a rats ass as the end result is still the same.

I thought that was a thing announced by Nintendo?
First I have heard of it.

You might have meant "New" 3DS, not 3DS XL in particular.

The Original 3DS, 2DS and 3DS XL is made from the same original hardware under the hood, then a second set of consoles called New 3DS, New 3DS XL and New 2DS XL, which had hardware improvements, perhaps you meant this?

Size and 3D support wasn't a compatibility concern in any of the 3DS lineup (IE 3DS, 2DS and 3DS XL can play the exact same set of games), the underlying hardware is (New having exclusive games, albeit few in number).
