I'll provide the update for 2019.

1. If you want a Radeon VII, you better not wait, because despite everything AMD said, there won't be enough for everyone.

2. Navi rollout has been split: first will be the low end, then later, high end.

2.1: Low end Navi will be announced in June at the same event that AMD unveil 3rd generation Ryzen.

2.2: High end Navi will be announced early next year.

3. We will be hosting Q/A session on Reddit again like we did last year

Heh they're going to release a high end Navi next year 6 months after Nvidia releases a card faster than it this year. Come on AMD.
 
I was only waiting for Ryzen but that is just to long as the 2600 pricing is haunting me everyday .

for Navi it was a waste of our time to wait for only a Vega 7 release as (AMD) can file it where the RTX ray tracers don't shine as never let up on Nvidia as 2060GTX is the right card with the wrong ram size (8Gb) needed .

Do they even have a Think Tank at either of those companies to Think as to ask the customer and not the designer of what they want to buy and not what the designer wants to sale ?

You mean the mid range Navi parts correct? They must be implementing Ray tracing to the Higher end parts.

Not surprised at all. By the time high-end Navi rolls out Nvidia will be close/or putting out 7nm cards and the cycle will repeat itself.
 
Was hoping Zen2 was launched sooner, but another 5 months isn't so bad.

I said last year that RTG is working to replace GCN after Navi.

The plan is still a go.

In the past, RTG has been focus solely on exacting the most performance. Power consumption was a mere secondary concern.

That will no longer be the case and power consumption will be a primary concern.

Lisa Su has her sight set on the portable market, and obviously, you can't have runaway heat and power consumption.
 
So the Zen 3 APUs with Arcturus graphics should be a shoe-in for SFF builds...
 
Another thing:

Production of the (14nm) Vega die is stopping.

There's no reason to panic because AIB still have months of supply left.

not sure wher you are reading this. Nvidia is not having anything 7nm until 2020. Its well known fact from numerous sources. As they are partnering with samsung for 7nm and will be launch partner along with IBM.

Turing is already the largest die so there ain't much room for refresh unless they dump rtx cores which I doubt they will do as RTX is now their premium brand. They waited over 2 years with pascal they are in no hurry to release anything new until 7nm.

not much room for refresh on 12nm.
 
So nothing faster than 2080Ti until next year? =/

Will be interesting to see how fast low end Navi is.

this is exactly what I have been thinking. Top end Navi at next CES to replace Vega 7. Then next gen after that.

They could always do an SLI in one card deal with NVLink.

For the 1% that can't wait you will need to continue to kneel. Hopefully the price ramp won't be much worse than it is now. Can it?

You mad? OP has credibility here. I have followed his AMD comments for a while and he tends to be fairly correct. So why not just learn to appreciate that and if you have nothing better to say just move on! Instead of thread crapping.

Yikes, take it easy eh. OP's comments are base line and NOT anything new. So sorry you had to have a mental break-down over it. Seems a shame you should be so overly invested right? Are you okay? Should I call for help?

To clarify on when/how VII will be available... VII will be sold (at least initially) direct only from AMD's site, correct? Or will they be available from resellers as well, but only for the AMD ref model? Color me confused...
 
All reference design from both AMD (direct sales) & third-party (resellers), with the AMD direct sales to ensure availability at MSRP...?

Low end Navi should be the replacements for Vega anyway, will be interesting to see how much performance they scrape out of it for one last time before dropping GCN. Still think the bigger problem is unless graphics get more demanding many may not feel a need to upgrade unless they are at 4K. You look at the price increase it took to beat a 1080ti with the 2080ti and most are never going to pay that kind of premium to just be 30% faster or so.

Disappointing. Was hoping we'd see high-end Navi at least by the end of this year. If they're just going to announce it early next year then I'm thinking we won't see high-end Navi until spring/summer 2020.

The reference design will be sold directly from AMD, as well as from AIB partners through retailers.

NVLink not SLI.

A dual 2080ti on a single chip NVLink solution would basically be a 4k @ 144hz part.

Yeah, it doesn't bode well for the next generation either given that the next generation is almost never faster than the current generation's SLI. I have the sinking feeling that even the next iteration of single GPU cards isn't going to push 4k @ 120hz.

Unless they find a way to reduce the load on the cpu to the gpu then I think gains will be minimal on 1080p and 1440p. You can really see this issue when you benchmark a 2080ti at 1080p. They also cant keep relying on die shrinks to be the major part of a performance increase anymore as well. Will be interesting the next few generations and how they approach these problems.
