Are there any monitors that are out now that are better than the PG279Q? Are there 4K versions out yet?

Asking for a friend.

Yes, but price dictates everything. What is his price range?

Doesn't matter. What are the G-sync ULMB options besides the PG279Q?

You said the 4K IPS (AHVA) ones are out now?

Also IPS/AMOLED type quality. TN is not an option.

The 4K ones are the PG27UQ from ASUS and the X27 from Acer. They retail for $2,000 USD, but can sometimes be found for cheaper these days. Both of these monitors do not have ULMB, though

They don't have ULMB probably due to the FALD backlighting. G-SYNC still works perfectly, though.
yea, I just got done reading the tftcentral review. I don't see why FALD can't strobe....it does basically the same thing with HDR really (not sure if the FALD completely turns off for black in HDR).

The Sony XBR Z9D is FALD with 800+ local dimming zones and supports BFI which is similar to strobing?

Because they're shitty, cheap displays being sold as high end luxury items. It is way too late to buy one of those displays. There's a whole new batch coming out this year. Makes absolutely no sense to drop 2 grand on last year's model at this point.

Well except the fact it’ll probably be next year before any of them come out.

All the display companies have horrific recent track record in getting the leading edge stuff to market.

I’ll take my 200hz 34 inch please (well actually I want the 144hz 38 now, so that’ll be another year)

No, at least Samsung and LG will have new models out this year. Asus is a joke and takes an eternity to get anything out, but Samsung and LG will get something out.

That's cause Asus for better or worse over engineer their products. Whereas most the other companies release new makes and models every year, Asus monitor lifecycle is 2-5 years, so they can recoup all the extra R&D. They also source their panels from Samsung/LG. So you can be a guinea pig for all the latest tech or overpay for an overbuilt over-engineered monitor. At least as consumers, we have those options.

We’ll see, LG have the 38 inch g-sync I want. They’ve said q1-q2, if it’s here by q4 I’ll be stunned.

I’m still salty over the 34 and before that the 4K 144hz screens that I got bored of waiting for and bought a temporary monitor, good job I did given the shitty qa.
