Really? Of course we have evidence of Ryzen 2 but 3 does not yet exist. (Ryzen 3000 series or Ryzen 2, same thing.) On the other hand, at this time, we have zero evidence of anything that Intel would be offering. Perhaps after being smacked around by AMD, this will be there true wake up call but, we will see.

We have several leaks of Icelake performance... About Zen2 we only have a demo made by AMD.
 
They're both coming out with new chips on new nodes. The comparison is AMD's new product to Intel's old. I'm also not saying that the comparison is 'unfair', but that criticism of the comparison is fair.

What you 'got' was making stuff up.

Yet nobody gives cognisance to doing like for like tests clocking intel and AMD parts at similar clocks doing an actual even test, instead they lauded a 5ghz 9900K beating a 3.8ghz all core 2700 for a little while, now a similar core, similar thread less power and lower clocked next gen Ryzen beats intel's current generation champion in said bench and it is regarded unfair. What is sad here is that the part in question is believed to be multiplier locked 65W entry level 8/16 core offering

Serial numbers match with leaked documents, while there may be some areas needing confirmation, the bulk of the information leaked to date is accurate. One of the very first posts Kyle replied to my skepticism on in a other thread was that the details are close just some are not and I doubt it has to do with the perceived ES chip in question being more entry level with lower clocks.

How you know it's likely a good chip coming from AMD is by the instance of some that it sucks and Intel will have something coming thats better soon. It's a impressive feat for the wattage used to beat the 9900K chip. As for Intel I think many will be disappointed by what they release in later part of the year if they are hoping for a high end desktop part.
 
First of all, it's "VERY" important that any potential customer of these AMD chips should absolutely know that AMD uses a multi chip setup with these CPU's .... so the I/O ... the interconnects .. the data pathways between these chips are slower than Intel. There is an inherent latency that AMD faces ... now, these numbers are very low but much higher than Intel. This is why Intel still beats AMD in many benchmarks. Especially games. In fact, nearly all games.

Will AMD beat Intel in "all" performance metrics? Possibly, eventually, maybe sooner than we all think. Who knows. Once that happens, Intel will really be in serious trouble. I don't think that's going to happen with the Zen 2 but, we will have to wait and see.

Also, 99% of the people out there using a PC use their PC's for Gaming, Web, Email. Music and Movies. Less than 1% use productivity apps other than occasionally.

Sadly, there are many kids, customers that give up gaming performance for productivity because they are sold on "cores." ... Cores should never ever be the first thing you consider in a purchase. Should it be a top consideration? Absolutely. But not the deciding factor.

When I see people talking about cores, and power savings, to me it feels like they are attempting to take a part, a part proven to have less performance than it's competitor and artificially elevate it in regards to it's performance. While it's true that power savings are important, we are literally talking about saving pennies month to month. Cores, if you're honestly truly into productivity, like that's all you really do then AMD is absolutely the best CPU for you. For the vast vast majority ... real true performance is where you want to be.

This couldn't be more untrue, if 1% of the worlds needs were to cater for 1% working population then we are on the footstep of War as unemployment globally will be astronomical. I think about 40-50% of desktop systems sold to professionals like architects, engineers (electrical, aerodynamic, mechanical, fluid, civil and medical "probably many others), content developers like musicians, filmmakers, song writers, composers, producers, designers (graphics, animation, image, advertising) all use work horses for it. If anything gaming is just a niche market.

As for people needing google and gmail etc they do that on laptops and notebooks etc today. Desktop gaming is a dying niche market with very low money yields.

I do it on my cell, laptop sits charging 365...dunno why I got it anymore. Just in case, I guess. That said, I don't use my desktop much either, or game. I'm become rather a boring person. :/

One major difference is that Intel's roadmap has seen some major changes along the way.
Given how long they've been working with their 10nm design it's not impossible that it will be monolithic, and thus obsolete, when launched.

Agreed.

Stupid analogy time - Change at Intel is like trying to turn an aircraft carrier. AMD is more akin to a turning a destroyer.
 
I'd rather think that since Intel's been increasing their IPC for so long they're now at the point of diminishing returns.
I don't expect anything significant there until they take a leap away from the Core architecture.

The information out there about changes to icelake, show one more IO port, so the advantage Ryzen+ has with a extra write port is nullified.
 
Faith is trust based upon evidence.
Even in the scientific world there is a time that you have to stop aggregating data and choose or make a trust based cognitive jump of faith you declare that H1 will be accepted as truth instead of H0. For particle physics that is Sigma 5, but even this threshold is based on faith;
 
people hoping to see 5ghz zen2, thats a bit too optimistic imo.

if zen 2 can do say 4.7ghz on all cores then i'd be extremely happy already, given that 4.7ghz will be for ALL cores, so 16 cores, 32 cores etc.. if temp allows it.

for intel top SKU 28 cores to run at 4.7ghz what kind of cooling is needed just thinking about it is crazy.
